It was the wedding of the century. At least that was how Ronny saw it. He stood in front of the jam-packed church filled with his friends and business associates, and all of his brothers’ friends and business associates. Sabrina even had people there for her too. From Elvira Dash and James Prado, to Tex Graylin and the entire housekeeping staff. And all of the maids, except for Gail whose lawsuit was tossed out of court, were her bridesmaids. Elvira was her matron of honor. It was wonderful to Ronny. Bradshaw Manor, now with Sabrina as the matron of the house, was out in force.
Ronny could hardly contain his joy. He and his best man, Reynolds McNabb, kept taking happy glances at each other. He was doing the same with Zack and Perry, who were among his groomsmen. Because not one of them, including Ronny himself, ever thought this day would ever come.
And then the doors opened in the back and everyone stood on their feet. And there she was, Sabrina , dressed like an angel, Ronny thought, in her bright white, couture gown with bugle beads, diamond beads, and sequins, all gorgeously atop embroidered Iace applique with dramatic fluttering layers that overlayed her huge train. Made for her by the top designer in the world, it fit her like a glove.
Ronny's heart was fluttering too when he took one look at her in that over-the-top gorgeous gown. Her bridesmaids were in the back, helping to hold up her train, while young flower girls waited up front with baskets of flowers to disperse. And when his brother placed Brina’s arm in his arm and he began to walk her down the aisle, Ronny glanced at Zack and Perry again. And all three brothers smiled. Sully had been her biggest skeptic. Now he was her champion.
That irony wasn’t lost on Brina, either, as the live band began playing the song she and Ronny had selected, and Sully slowly walked her down the aisle. He questioned her motives from the moment he met her. But over the past eight months they grew very close. They now were thick as thieves. It warmed Brina's heart.
But the only man on her mind in that moment was Ronny. The man who believed in her when no-one else did. He was her hero. She was welling up inside just thinking about how much she loved him.
And when the wedding singer started singing Adele's Make You Feel My Love , as written by Bob Dylan, she couldn't take her eyes off Ronny as she slowly moved down that aisle.
“When the rain is blowing in your face,
and the whole world is on your case.
I could offer you a warm embrace.
To make you feel my love.
When the evening shadows and the stars appear.
And there is no one there to dry your tears.
I could hold you for a million years.
To make you feel my love.”
Ronny could feel her love as she walked towards him. He believed he knew it the first moment he saw her outside of that chicken joint. Somehow he knew even then she was the one. His biggest regret was that he didn't follow up on her way back then, to protect her from all that rejection and disappointment and poverty she had to endure. But within moments she was going to go from one of the poorest women in the country to one of the richest. And he could hardly wait.
But as they walked, Sully began talking to her. He was always giving her advice. It was the nature of their relationship. “You’re about to become one of the most in-demand women in the country when you become Mrs. Ronald Bradshaw,” he whispered to her.
“Yes, that's true,” Brina said with some trepidation.
“Don't change. Ronny loves you just the way you are. And so do we.”
Brina smiled. “Don’t worry. I plan to be who I am.”
“And keep holding his feet to the fire. Just like you made him double those maids’ salaries and set up benefit packages with great retirement plans for them, you keep standing firm with him. That's why he respects you.”
Brina looked at Sully as they made their slow walk to the altar. “I didn't think you used to respect me.”
Sully smiled. “I'm an aging bachelor who let love to pass him by. What do I know?"
Brina grinned as they finally made it there. She stepped up to where Ronny was standing, and Sully handed her off to his brother.
“You've got a precious woman in your hands,” he said to Ronny. “Treat her right.”
“I intend to,” Ronny said as he gladly took Brina's hand.
They faced each other smiling, and waited their turn to say those two magical words that would solidify their union forevermore. A union that began rocky, with all the twists and turns, and all the bad guys either dead or in prison. But they were still standing. Still in love. Still waiting anxiously to say those two words.
And when they finally said I do, and the minister pronounced them husband and wife, they kissed as a married couple for the first time in their lives.
“Ladies and gentlemen, please applaud Mr. and Mrs. Warren Ronald Bradshaw,” the minister proclaimed, and the applause was deafening as Ronny and Brina walked down that aisle together with the joyfulness of two lovestruck teenagers.
On their way to their Paris honeymoon.
