EPILOGUE
Two Years Later
When I lay in bed at night. I close my eyes and it’s you I see.
You hold my hand and my heart, and you make me believe.
In love. True love. Yeah. In love. True love.
My life changed when you walked in. And I couldn’t catch my breath.
I believe that you’re the one. The woman who will make my dreams come true.
In love. I’m so in love with you.
In love. True love. Yeah. Yeah. It’s you.
I didn’t believe that I could find happiness.
I didn’t think that I deserved it.
But you showed me the way.
You didn’t care who I was, but you believed. You believed in me.
And that made me love you even more.
Tate battles his drums, with Mikey and Davey joining in. Asher bends, grabs his bottled water, and gulps it down. He looks in my direction, smiles, then grasps the microphone stand and leans back in.
How easily my life had changed. How quickly I had everything rearranged.
To fit you into my life. Yeah, to fit you into my life.
You fit in perfectly.
How I refused to be apart. You had taken over my heart.
Because I am so in love with you.
In love. True love. Yeah. It’s you.
The lights dim, then lift in a blue hue.
“I wrote that song two years ago, during our last tour.” The crowd screams. Asher leans back and smiles. “You see, there was this girl, and she didn’t know that she was going on a first date with me. She thought she was going backstage to meet some guy named Jeff. But you see, this Jeff guy gave her the wrong phone number. He gave her mine. His loss became my gain, and boy, I haven’t looked back since. So, anyway, I fell in love, as you can tell from the lyrics. And I think it’s time to bring my girl out on stage. Because this is where it all began. We met here at this very stadium.”
Suddenly, Davey is standing beside me with a mischievous grin.
“What is he doing?” I ask.
“He’s introducing you to the crowd.” Davey shrugs.
I look back out on the stage, and Asher looks over at me. “So, baby, I’m going to need you to come out on stage. Davey, please help her out.”
Davey offers me his arm, and then I walk with him to center stage.
“As you can see, folks, my baby is about to have a baby. She’s ready to burst at any minute, but I think it’s important that before she does, I ask her a very important question.”
The crowd screams. My heart throbs.
Davey steps around me and moves beside Asher, grabs the microphone, and moves with Asher as he gets down on one knee.
“I wrote for years about love. About finding it, keeping it, and sometimes destroying it. But I didn’t know what love was until you came along. You gave me a new perspective on everything that I came across and my life has never been the same since you told me that my name wasn’t Jeff. I love you. I love having you on tour with us. I love having you as my muse, and I love the man that you make me be. So, with that being said, will you do the honor and marry me?”
Tears are streaming down my face.
“Yes. Yes. Yes. I’ll marry you.” Asher places a solitaire diamond ring on my finger and stands.
“I love you.” He whispers as he kisses me.
“She said yes, folks! It’s official. Asher Knight is off the market.”
A splatter of liquid falls to the stage, and Asher and I pull away from one another, look down in shock, and then at one another.
“Shit! Well, thankfully, that was the last song of the night. We’re sorry, there’s no encore. These two are having a baby tonight!” Davey says. “Thank you for coming and please tip your waiter!”
Asher rushes me off the stage, and space is made for us. Someone throws Asher a shirt, and Tate catches up with us.
“Need me to do anything?” he asks, as we move through the halls.
“In the dressing room are her purse and my backpack. We’ll meet you at the hospital.”
7 pounds and 11 ounces.
Theo Thomas Knight entered the world screaming his lungs out until he was placed on my chest. He has a firm grasp on Asher’s finger and I couldn’t be more in love. With both of my guys.
A knock breaks the silence in our recovery room and the band walks in.
“Looking for some company?” Tate asks.
One by one, the band comes in, including their tour manager, Paddy, who has become a surrogate father when on tour. They all crowd around the bed and gawk at the small human in my arms.
Asher pulls the blanket up to my neck to cover me while I reposition Theo in my arms.
“Who wants to hold their nephew first?” I ask.
Paddy pushes all the guys back and holds out his hands. I place Theo in his arms and feel content with life as I watch everyone look at our son.
Another knock on the door and my parents walked in, looking for the newcomer to the family. My mom steps beside Paddy and looks down at Theo, then at me. She brushes his forehead, then comes to the other side of the bed and grabs my hand.
“How are you honey?” she asks.
“Tired. But happy.” I smile, my eyes are a little teary at my surroundings.
“Well, did anything else amazing happen tonight?” she looks to Asher who is smiling widely.
“Whatever should you mean?” he tilts his head.
“Did you put a ring on her?” Mom asks.
“Yes. Moments before her water broke.”
“So, you guys are new parents and engaged? So much to celebrate.” My mom claps. She leans in and kisses me on the cheek. “I’m so proud of you, baby girl.”
“Thanks, Mom.”
Mom walks around the bed and around the crowd and hugs Asher. My father comes up to him and joins in.
I look around the room.
All the most important people in my life are in one room.
Who would have thought that a text exchange with a wrong number would have led me here?
I couldn’t ask for a better life.
