RUBY

…twelve months later

Today, just like I always dreamed, is the day Maddox and I become husband and wife, and Sab will officially be my sister from another mister.

The ceremony and reception is being held in a tent with gas heaters to keep the guests warm and a clear back that overlooks the lake. Yep, I’m finally getting my Christmas lakeside wedding.

The twinkling lights of the houses along the shoreline sparkle in the background as Maddox and I say our vows in front of our family and friends. We had to move the ceremony inside due to an impending snowstorm but to be honest, as long as I became Mad’s wife, I really didn’t care where it happened. Hell, I would have done it at the courthouse but I am glad we get to do it here.

“Maddox, I’ve been in love with you for as long as I can remember. You were my first crush, my first everything, and now, you’re my one and only but thanks to a magical Christmas ornament?—”

“And me,” Sab interrupts, causing everyone to laugh .

“As I was saying, thanks to a magical Christmas ornament, and Sab, we found each other again. Now that you’re mine, I’m never letting you go. You are my everything, Maddox Whitworth, and I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with you.”

“Reindeer, I stupidly let you get away when you were nineteen, but it seems Fate had a plan for us all along because we are here today, declaring our love for one another in front of all our family and friends. Coming back to Evergreen Lake was the best decision, both professionally and personally. It led me back to the best thing to ever come into my life.” He raises his hand and points at his sister. “And no, Sis, it’s not because you are her best friend and met her first. Like she said, Fate had a plan for us and no matter what, we would have met … and with the help of a little Christmas magic. I love you, Reindeer, and I will do so for the rest of my life and into eternity and beyond.”

After his beautiful vows, I’ve never been so eager to utter those two magical words, I do! And as soon as they pass through my lips and he slips that ring onto my finger, I know, no matter what happens from here on out, it will all be fine. With Maddox by my side, we can conquer anything.

Finally, I get to kiss my husband and like our first kiss when we rekindled our romance just over twelve months ago, my leg lifts AND my heart skips a beat. Just like the heroines in the books I sell, I got the man and my happily ever after.

After a million and one photos, waiters begin delivering delicious finger foods. The bar staff keep the bubbly flowing and the DJ plays upbeat music with the odd romantic song thrown in, it is a wedding after all.

The day is perfect in every way, just like my husband.

Maddox Whitworth has owned my heart since I was a teenager, back then I was hopelessly in love with him and now that I’m an adult, hopelessly in love is an understatement. He’s the only one to ever truly get under my skin, or in my ass. My husband is literally the man of my dreams, and now, I get to grow old with my one true love.

Sab still maintains it’s because of her and the guidance of a magical Christmas ornament that led us to our happily ever after, but personally, I think Maddox and I were always destined to be together.

In the middle of the dance floor, I sway in my husband’s arms. I’m officially Mrs. Maddox Whitworth, and my life is complete. I got the fairy-tale ending and in nine months’ time, our family will be expanding—but shh, that’s my Christmas present for my husband.

Merry freaking Christmas to me!
