KAI

H aven brushed past me, and her scent lingered in the air, making it difficult to resist the urge to pull her back into my space.

Instead, I let her leave.

I needed to do something before I followed her. Pulling out my cell phone, I called Theo.

“Yo,” he answered.

“I need you to do me a favor and pull everything you can on Haven Benson, Abel Benson’s daughter.”

I may have fibbed when I told her that I knew everything about her. The truth was, I didn’t even know he had a daughter.

“Abel Benson has a daughter?”

“Yeah, I just met her.”

“At The Pink Monkey? What is the daughter of a crime boss doing at a strip club?” He sounded just as surprised as I was when I first saw her.

“Things she shouldn’t be doing.”

“I see. Well, what are you looking for?”

“I’m not sure yet,” I admitted

“Okay. I’ll start digging. You good?”

“Yeah, I have a plan.”

“You with a plan? I’ll believe it when I see it,” he joked. I wasn’t known for thoroughly thinking things out ahead of time.

“Just start doing your nerd shit. I’ll talk to you when I get back home.”

“You got it.”

I hung up the phone and slowly opened the door into the hallway, checking to make sure no one was nearby before stepping into the hallway. As I was about to turn the corner and head toward the Lotus room where Haven would likely be, I heard a man’s voice speaking loudly. I quickly pressed myself against the wall and peered around the corner. It was Haven, trying to walk away from Alexander Benson—a face that was all too familiar to me. A few days ago, he had shown up at the quarry where we were having a party and started a turf war over Mila, knocking her and Maddie off the cliff and into the water. Alexander wouldn’t get off easy, but I had my sights set on someone else right now.

When that motherfucker slammed her against the wall and then struck her, it took everything in my power not to bash his skull in. God knows I wanted to. But right now, I was on surveillance duty, and even if I wanted to go in guns blazing, neither of us would make it very far. Too many hired guns protecting the Benson family and their patrons. For now, Alexander was safe. I clenched my fists and took several deep breaths to relieve my anger.

Haven didn’t back down from her brother, and that infuriated him and left me smiling. There was something about a mouthy woman that turned me the fuck on. My mind started thinking about her smart mouth and olive-green eyes—a deadly combination.

Readjusting my now-hard dick in my pants, I tuned back into reality.

Yes, I know I’m sick.

Their conversation was brief, but Haven’s questions further piqued my curiosity. She somehow managed to get him to spill secrets I may not have discovered otherwise. After his ill-timed visit to the quarry, I assumed he was up to something, but hearing him boast about their plans because he thought the information would go nowhere was very telling.

Loose lips sink ships, my friend.

I was looking forward to seeing the look on his face when we destroyed him and his lowlife family. Judging by the tone of the conversation, Alexander seemed especially agitated by our recent destruction of his warehouses, which was just one step in a long line of assaults we had planned. We would continue to hit him where it hurt until we got to the coward himself. I could barely contain myself from revealing my presence and witnessing the terror in his eyes as he choked on his own blood—one last gnat for The Brotherhood to deal with. But Archer told me to wait, and my loyalty was to him.

However, when Alexander dragged Haven back into the Lotus room and announced their guests were waiting for her, the beast inside me wouldn’t let me stand by and watch, so here I was, making a decision that might get me killed. Despite the danger, a twisted smile spreads across my face.

I fucking love chaos—it really gets the blood pumping.
