KAI

A rcher had brought his latest conquest to the bonfire. I took pleasure in getting under his skin and pushing his boundaries, a constant game we played. Our roles were pre-determined as the offspring of the current patriarchy in The Brotherhood. We lived out our deepest, darkest fantasies through college, with the understanding that once our fathers died or stepped down from their positions as top leaders of The Brotherhood, we would assume their roles. There were opportunities for us to advance into other advantageous positions of authority, separate from our fathers’, but that depended on the needs of The Brotherhood. We had all become the enforcers of our fathers’ dictatorship.

Archer played the good little soldier, exploiting and killing whatever target his father gave him. His target was Mila Grey, an innocent girl caught up in the political feud between her father, Winston Grey, and Archer’s father, Cassian King.

Cassian King was ruthless and devoted to ensuring The Brotherhood remained the top dog in New York City. He worked closely with my father, Asher Montgomery, and Theo’s father, Thane West, to strategize and maintain control over various aspects of city affairs. Currently, Cassian King was involved in the political side of things. At the same time, my father held a high position in law enforcement as the police commissioner; Thane West handled legal and financial matters as the resident lawyer and accountant. There wasn’t a profession or office in NYC that one of our fathers or fellow brothers hadn’t infiltrated. It’s how we had stayed on top for so long.

Our connections allowed us to smuggle weapons in and out of the city and carry out retaliatory actions against rival gangs without fear of arrest. And if one of us did get put behind bars, we knew we had brothers on the inside who would get the charges dropped through legal loopholes, falsifying evidence, cleaning up evidence, or making witnesses disappear.

The life of a criminal was my calling. The chaos and danger that came with it were like adrenaline coursing through my veins. I was not the type that cared to be in law enforcement. Truth be told, I was more inclined to break the law than uphold it. My parents were dead set on me finding a nice girl with a flawless past to help settle me down and then spend my life punching in and out of work, catching bad guys. I had no interest in that mundane existence. I couldn’t fathom how they could be happy with monogamy and a job where you wore a suit.

Fuck that.

I was good with fucking my way through New York City and cracking skulls together whenever the need arose, or even if it didn’t. Violence and anger ran thick in my blood, and I reveled in it.

Then there was Archer, one of my partners in crime. He was drawn to death and destruction like a moth to a flame—we all were. And yet, since he met Mila, something changed within him, but he didn’t see it yet. We used to trade girls like Pokémon cards, but since his little rabbit made her appearance, he’d focused on her and her only. She had tamed the beast inside of him.

I smirked at the thought. I never believed anyone could do it. But here he was, devoted to one woman, while I continued to roam free.

I was uncollared and doing just fine.

Even though Maddie was sitting on my lap, I could only think about Haven. That seductive siren had captured my attention from the very first moment I saw her green eyes staring back at me in the strip club.

“What is it, baby?” Maddie’s whiny voice bled into my brain.

I shake my head and give her my attention. “Nothing. Take your clothes off.”

“Ooh, you bad boy. You want to fuck me in front of everyone?”

“Shut the fuck up, Maddie, and do what you’re good at.”

“Fine, you ole grump,” she feigned a dramatic pout. But she obliged.

Everyone was too drunk to notice or care that my date was undressing right in front of them. Maddie was hot, sure, if you liked that ‘fake tit, blonde bimbo’ thing, which I wouldn’t exactly say wasn’t my type. But I couldn’t see anything but Haven.

I pulled out my cock and stroked it, thinking about her. Maddie was too stupid to realize that it wasn’t her naked in front of me that got me hard. It was thinking about Haven pleasuring herself with her toys. The way her come tasted on the toy I pocketed.

I groaned as Maddie sank onto my dick. She was making all of these weird porn star noises that were almost a boner killer. So, I closed my eyes and pictured Haven. I pictured her on her knees, her perfect round ass facing me. I could see how wet she was as her arousal leaked out of her tight, pink pussy.

“How’s this feel, daddy?” Maddie whimpered.

Daddy? Fucking gross .

“I’m not your daddy. Get off of me and get on all fours,” I demanded.

Without hesitation, I shoved Maddie down and took her from behind, imagining it was Haven’s tight, pink pussy I was plunging into. And as I felt Maddie climax, my eyes locked with green eyes that I would have recognized anywhere.

Haven was here.

She didn’t acknowledge me when our gazes met, instead turning to continue her conversation with the blond jock bartender. When she smiled at him, taking little sips of her drink in a red solo cup, I couldn’t control what happened next. I growled and pulled out of Maddie, suddenly disgusted that I had evidence of her climax coating my dick. She stood up while I hastily tucked myself back into my briefs, wrapping her arms around me and kissing me on the lips.

“That was so great, baby. How was it for you?”

I looked up again and saw Haven walking away and into the woods. “Fuck off, Maddie.”

“You’re a dick,” she spat, grabbing her clothes and hastily putting them on before storming off.

She’d get over it. Girls like Maddie craved power and bragging rights about fucking one of the devils of The Brotherhood. Honestly, I couldn’t care less that my interactions were superficial. Life was simpler that way. In and out, that’s my motto.

So, why was I suddenly contemplating following Haven into the woods?

I took a few more swigs from my bottle of whiskey, desperate to distract myself. I even laughed as I told a story about when I decided to run naked through a bar mitzvah. Mila laughed, but Archer was in his own world. Theo seemed preoccupied with his phone again. Something was bothering him. Maybe I should ask him about it later. But right now, my attention was drawn back to Haven during a lull in conversation. She had been gone for quite some time now, and I noticed that the blond jock was no longer tending the bar. Instead, there was a purple-haired, tattoo-covered goth girl behind it. I stood up and reached the bar, startling the goth chick.

“Hey, there was a blond guy here a bit ago. Do you know where he went?”

“Tanner?” she smiled, running her tongue across her frenulum piercing.

“Yeah, Tanner. Where is he?”

“Oh, he said he needed to take a break and went off to have some fun with a girl in the woods. But don’t worry, he’ll be back soon. Unless…maybe I could entertain you until then?”

“Thanks for the offer, but no thanks.” I clenched my jaw and headed toward the forest, where I saw Haven disappear.

How the fuck did I miss that little punk following her into the woods? If he tried anything with her, I’d rip his intestines out of his body through his asshole. Once in the woods, I listened carefully for any sounds that would lead me to her. The music from the quarry was too loud, but I did spot a small bootprint near a puddle of mud. It had to be hers. I pulled out my phone and turned on the flashlight to scan the ground for more footprints. After a few minutes, I found her trail. Unfortunately, it wasn’t just her footprints I found. There were larger ones that followed hers through the dense forest.

I cursed under my breath, quickening my pace, hoping to catch up to them without making too much noise. The deeper into the forest I went, the darker it became. The darkness surrounded me, only barely illuminated by the dim moonlight filtering through the thick canopy of trees. It was eerily quiet, save for the occasional rustling of leaves and the distant sound of music. As I pushed through the dense underbrush, I stumbled upon a small clearing where I could see Haven, who was backed against a tree by Tanner. I watched from the shadows as Tanner’s hands crept higher and higher up her body. I could see the tension on her face as she tried to shove him away from her, protesting his advances, but he wasn’t getting the clue. My fists clenched, and my jaw tightened as I considered my options. She thought she was utterly alone and unprotected in these woods, so she tried to de-escalate Tanner peacefully before things got worse for her. Little did she know, I was the true monster lurking in the shadows, waiting to protect her. I was going to rip that little prick’s head from his body.
