EIGHTEEN
GAVIN
“You need to go back to your room, Peaches.” I press a kiss to her lips.
The sun is barely up, and I’ve already made her come twice this morning. Once on my tongue and then on my cock. Being inside Millie bare is an obsession that could never get old.
Keeping her quiet is another one.
I held my hand over her mouth as I moved over her languidly, and fuck if the way she nipped at my palm didn’t send zaps of need straight to my cock as she writhed and spasmed and milked my orgasm from me.
The image of her golden eyes wide and lust filled is burned in my memory.
“Fine. But don’t leave before I come down. I’m not ready to say goodbye.”
That glimmer of vulnerability pulls at my heart. I slide off her but keep one palm pressed to her skin until she’s out of bed and wrapping herself in a blanket.
This setup couldn’t be more convenient. The guest bedroom shares a Jack and Jill bathroom with Millie’s bedroom, so there’s no risk of being caught as she slips back into her own space.
After I’m showered, I head downstairs and find Ford sitting at the table alone.
“Looks like it’s just us old guys up right now,” Ford says with a nod to the coffeepot. “Cups are in the cabinet, and if you want creamer, you’re shit out of luck. I drink it black, and Lake doesn’t drink it at all.”
“Black is fine.” I pull a mug down and lift my chin. “The bride sleeping?”
“Yeah. My kids are too.” He lifts a brow at me over his newspaper. “I guess Daniel had a late night.”
I fill my cup, then head back to the table, sipping slowly. “Oh yeah? Why do you say that?”
With a low laugh, he sets the newspaper down on the table. Then he glances toward the stairs before angling closer. “I think he had company in the hot tub,” he says, voice low. “Gonna have to empty the damn thing.”
Panic clutches at me, making it hard to breathe. “Hmm?”
“Noises from outside woke me up. When I got up to check, Lake was stepping back in from the deck off our bedroom. Apparently, Daniel was in the hot tub with a girl.” He drops his head and shakes it. “That’s the last thing I want to see, so I went back to bed.”
Palm pressed over my mouth, I hide my horrified expression and force out a noise that I hope resembles a laugh. “Guess that’s why they call him Playboy.”
Ford grins and holds his coffee cup aloft. “Just like you.”
That comment is like a punch to the gut. Shit. I shake my head. “I’m not like that anymore.” There’s no way I can admit to what I’m doing with his daughter, but I need him to know that’s not who I am anymore. The father of the woman I’m dating has to know he can trust me when he finally finds out the truth.
“Oh?” He arches his brows. “You meet someone?”
For once, I don’t give him my canned answer, that I’ve met several someones, because the one and only someone I’ve met is shuffling into the kitchen, legs bare, smile sleepy and eyes soft.
“Hey, Daddy. Gavin,” she says, zeroing in on me.
“Morning, baby girl,” Ford says.
Lowering my head, I make a mental note to never call her that. With a Herculean effort, I remain focused on my cup of coffee and not the beautiful woman that is now pressing a kiss to her father’s cheek.
“Daniel just texted that he headed back to Boston already, but I was thinking of heading into the city to see some friends and then have dinner with him tonight. Could I take one of the cars?”
“I have a car coming in an hour,” I offer. “Want to ride with me?”
“Thanks, man. Appreciate that.” Ford smiles up at Millie. “I’d take you if I could, baby girl, but I want to help Lake clean this place up, and honestly, I’m wiped. My age must be getting to me. I can’t hang like I used to.”
“That’s okay, Daddy. I’m sure Gavin will take care of me.” She gives him an innocent smile, then turns it on me.
Teeth gritted, I narrow my eyes on her. Girl loves playing with fire.
“Of course he will. He knows you’re my pride and joy. I want to see you before your flight leaves tomorrow. Think you’ll be coming back this way tonight?”
“It probably makes the most sense to stay in Boston. Want to meet up for lunch there tomorrow?”
Ford slides his phone out and taps at the screen. “I’ll have my assistant make a reservation. Gav, you want to come?”
I swallow down my nerves. How is it possible that seeing Millie could be this easy? Phone out, I pull up my calendar and pretend I’m actually checking it. It wouldn’t matter what my plans are. Even if I was meeting with the commissioner of the NHL tomorrow, I’d cancel it. “Sure. I’ve got nothing else going on.”
He nods and focuses on his phone again. Millie drops into the seat across from us and gives me a seductive smile.
It’s not until I’m mimicking the gesture that I realize Lake has been standing at the sink with a cup of tea in her hand, watching us. And the look on her face makes it clear that while Millie’s father may not have a clue what’s going on, she definitely does.
Fuck.
“So who do you have plans with today?” I ask Millie as I usher her into my apartment. Regardless of her plans, I’m stealing a little more of her time, whether she likes it or not.
With a hum, she turns in a slow circle, taking in the space. “It’s weird being back here.”
I step up closer and pull her against my chest, and with one hand in her wild curls, I angle her head so she’s forced to look at me. “Why?”
Her golden eyes are alight with humor as they search mine. “I did lose my virginity to a strange man in this apartment.”
I laugh. “I’m strange now?”
“You were a stranger that night.”
An ache forms behind my ribs. “Feels like a lifetime ago.”
She nods.
“I hope I was gentle enough with you.” I loosen my hold on her hair but don’t remove my hand. Part of me still hates the way our story began. That I was her revenge. But the trepidation that hits every time I think about it is soothed, because we’re so much more than that now.
“You were perfect.” Her voice and expression are soft, genuine. “I’m happy it was you.”
I press my lips to hers, sweeping my tongue into her mouth and groaning. “If it had been anyone else, I’d kill them.”
Pulling back, she sinks her teeth into her bottom lip. “You’re a little possessive, huh?”
And now I’m back to gripping her hair tight. “Terribly when it comes to you.”
“That’s kind of hot.” She slips a finger between the buttons of my shirt and tugs, teasing.
“Oh yeah? What else do you find hot?” I want to know her every desire. Want to give her every first.
“Your bathtub was pretty hot.”
Silently telling my cock to stand down, I press a kiss to her jaw, then straighten. “I think you liked sucking my cock in my bathtub.”
She licks her lips. “Oh, I really liked that.”
Images of that night pummel me as I fixate on her mouth. Memories of teaching her how to deep-throat me. Praising her, encouraging her, rewarding her. Fuck, everything about that night was perfect. How is it that every time I’m with her, it’s more perfect than the last time?
“So, your plans?”
She bites down on her bottom lip. “I lied. Just needed an excuse to get you to bring me back here.”
Tugging her close, I squeeze her to my chest and plant a kiss on the top of her head. “You know I wasn’t leaving that house without you.”
She sighs and pulls away. Then she spins on her heel and wanders out to the living room. Fuck, do I like seeing her in my space. She fits here.
“I was nervous that you’d get weird after having breakfast with my dad.”
Dipping my head, I take my wallet out of my pocket and drop it onto the black marble island, then pull two bottles of water from the fridge. With a nod, I head to the couch, silently inviting her to join me. “I know this makes me an asshole, but it’s like I’ve somehow disassociated you from him. Like I know you’re his daughter, his Millie, the one I’ve heard about nonstop for the past ten years.”
She saunters over and settles her legs on either side of my hips, straddling me.
I set our waters on the cushion beside me and grasp her thighs. “But now you’re my Millie too.”
She grinds against me and brings her lips to mine. “I am your Millie, Gavin. I’m all yours?—”
My phone rings, interrupting her, and she straightens.
I drop my head back against the couch, annoyed by the interruption, and lift my hips while clutching her with one hand so she can’t move. Then I dig the device out of my pocket.
Aiden’s name flashes on the display, which means I’ve got no choice but to answer. If I don’t, he’ll just keep calling. “Hello.”
“We’re going out tonight.”
I grunt. “No we’re not.”
“Come on. You didn’t celebrate with us last week, and you didn’t come out with us last night either. You get a girlfriend or something?”
Millie grins, obviously catching Aiden’s side of the conversation.
“Leave him be,” Brooks says in the background. “If he doesn’t want to come, we don’t have to go out.”
There’s a muffled feminine laugh, then Sara says, “Come on, Brookie baby. We’re going out!”
I grit my teeth. “I’m not coming.”
Millie pulls her phone out of her back pocket, holds it up, then turns it so I can see the text on the screen.
Daniel: Dad said we’re going to dinner? If you’re going to use me as a cover for whoever you’re hanging out with, you best be meeting me out for drinks later. And bring the guy. Need to see if he’s good enough for my little sister.
I raise my eyes to her, and she shrugs before typing and then showing me her message.
Millie: There’s no guy to meet. Just didn’t want to hang with Lake and Dad. Throwing up emoji Where are we going tonight?
At this point, Aiden is rapping about how I won’t come out to the tune of “Locked Up” by Akon.
“Locked down, he won’t come out
The new girl won’t let him out
Brothers, he’s locked down,
The girl won’t let him out, no…she won’t let him out.”
“If I come out, will you stop singing?” I snarl.
If Millie’s going out, then I am too, even if it means spending another night in her proximity without being able to touch her.
“Don’t let him fool you,” Brooks says, though the last few words are muffled. “Sar, quit it.” There’s a scuffle, and knowing him and his best friend, she’s trying to muffle him. “Aiden will never stop singing.”
I laugh, and Millie presses her lips together, trying her best not to join in. I sit up and cover her mouth to make sure her giggles don’t break free.
“Just text me where I’m meeting you later. I gotta go.” I hang up before Millie gives us away, and then I cup her face and pull her closer. “This is a terrible idea.”
She shrugs, her eyes dancing. “It could be fun.”
“Fun?”
“Yeah, fun. Trying not to get caught.”
I let out a long breath. “You are such a bad girl, you know that?”
“Come on, we could have sex in a club somewhere—” Her eyes widen. “Or on a roof.”
“Sex in public really does it for ya, huh?”
She smiles down at me softly. “No, you really do it for me.”
