Carys
“ Do you ever stop wondering how this is our life?” I ask Chloe as she sits next to me on the couch, her ridiculously swollen feet resting on the ottoman in front of us, and Lexie, my baby girl, nuzzled against her big, pregnant boobs.
She looks over at her boys, who Dean is chasing around our yard, and smiles the most serene smile I’ve ever seen on her face. “Honestly, CC, if someone had told me this is how I’d end up and that I’d be the happiest woman in the world, I’d have asked them to share whatever the hell they were smoking because it was obviously some really good stuff.”
I pull the bottle out of Lincoln’s mouth and shift him to my shoulder to burp as his brother starts to get restless in the bassinet next to me. “Any regrets?”
My best friend leans her head back against the pillows and closes her eyes. “Not a single one.” When she opens her eyes, they’re strangely serious for her. “How about you? You went through hell to get here. Was it worth it?”
Cooper walks in and scoops Lochlan out of the bassinet, then presses his lips to the top of my head. “Steaks should be ready in a few minutes, ladies. You want to eat outside?”
I nod and grip the front of his shirt with one hand, holding him to me for a long moment before letting go. “We’ll be out in a minute.”
As I watch him walk away, I can’t help the way my breath catches in my throat.
This man and this family are everything I’ve ever wanted, and I still can’t believe they’re mine.
I link my fingers with Chloe’s and soak in the moment.
“It was worth it all.”
