Dante and Amara, 12 months later
On a cloudy afternoon, Amara Maroni became a mother twice over, giving birth to twin baby boys.
Both of them made it.
She cried, gazing at their scrunched faces, unable to believe they were hers, that they were together, so beautiful.
Dante Maroni looked, his heart full and relieved at seeing his sons.
Tempest Maroni stood on her little toes, holding Lulu, looking into the bassinet, her eyes wide. "My bwothas!"
Yes, she was speaking, as much a yapper as she'd been as a baby, just as spoiled too.
This time round though, her mother wasn't there. In the last one year, Amara had gotten pregnant again with twins—lord knew what super sperm her husband had—and lost her best friend and her mother. Vin had died working for them undercover, trying to save a slave girl he had fallen in love with, going out doing a good thing. Her mother had passed in her sleep one night, cause natural, looking peaceful.
Amara had buried two bodies and birthed two others.
The realization was deep.
Dante walked over to her, kissing her on the forehead, her first crush, her best friend, her husband, her king.
"You're the beat to my heart." He gave her a quick kiss that was broken by their daughter's loud 'ew'.
They grinned, knowing life would be full of ups and downs, calm and chaos, but they would play it together, with the same beats and the same hearts.
