Alexander

" Q uinn," I pleaded for her to answer me. I pulled my phone out and asked Siri to call 999, demanding an ambulance. She stopped breathing. My fingers checked her neck for a pulse—there was no pulse. I tilted her head back slightly to lift her chin and begin compressions. My hands positioned themselves, one on top of the other in the middle of her chest.

I pushed hard and fast against Quinn's chest. I couldn't lose her again. "Come on, baby," I whispered to myself. After doing a few compressions, I started doing rescue breaths on her.I placed my mouth over hers, pinched her nose closed, and blew into her mouth, ensuring her chest rose.

I could hear the sirens.

"Please, Quinn, wake up," I begged. She ignored my pleas. My voice was tense and cracked with every word I said. This wasn't the way it was supposed to be! She wasn't supposed to leave me again!

I was getting desperate .

A flash of rage ran through my veins at the thought of losing her, but I pushed it away. I needed her to wake up. My sole focus needed to be her right now. I blew into her mouth once more, pulling away, ready to start compressions again, when suddenly she gasped. She began to cough, and her eyes widened when she met my gaze. This scene felt all too familiar for both of us.

She remembered.

She was alive.

As I glanced back down, I smiled, seeing her eyes alert. I gently grabbed her wrist and brought her hand to my lips, kissing the back, before placing her hand on my cheek, feeling her warmth. I bent down and kissed her forehead softly before scooping her small frame into my arms and hugging her. I needed to feel her heart beating and her warm breath on me. Her arms wrapped around me, holding me tightly as I whispered, 'Everything would be okay,' against her.

The paramedics came rushing in, and I felt relieved to see them. I needed confirmation from someone I trusted, so I called our family doctor. He would be meeting us at my place. The paramedic assured me her vitals looked good, and she suggested going to the hospital for some tests, but Quinn declined.

I wasn't sure what she remembered precisely, but I knew she remembered something.
