Genevieve
L uke and Camila left without a backwards glance. My stomach turned as they left the shop and my heart started to beat faster. Lou and Cheryl's eyes on me made me even more uncomfortable.
“What the fuck was that, Genevieve?” Cheryl snapped.
“What?” I snapped back even though I knew exactly what she was talking about.
“You were a complete bitch to them,” Cheryl said. “If you can get your head out of your ass for two seconds, go after them!”
I clenched my jaw in anger, not because I was mad at Cheryl but because I was making things so much harder on myself. Seeing Cheryl felt like cold water had been splashed on me and the reality of our situation suddenly hit me. I would always be a third in their relationship, it would be Camila and Luke and then me. How would we introduce ourselves? Hey, this is my married couple? Or I'm the real mistress but the wife knows about me. They would leave, it was only a matter of time.
Our bubble had broken, and with it, all of my insecurities came crashing down on me. I felt stupid that I had thought this could work, that we could be more than just a contract, more than a Madame and her Subs. This didn’t work in real life and I was only setting myself up for heartache.
“Wow, Genevieve, I didn’t think you would be this stupid,” Cheryl said, shaking her head. “Look, I know we said we had baggage and how it was weighing us down, but this is ridiculous. If I didn’t see how they looked at you, I would have thought things just fizzled out, but I know that isn’t the case. You’re ruining this because you are too scared.”
“Oh, that's rich coming from you, Cheryl,” I growled, walking away to grab my purse. “They are married! They have each other and when they get bored they will still have each other.”
I knew I was being unreasonable, it was like word vomit, all my insecurities were coming to light. Allowing Cheryl to see my personal life had scared the crap out of me because keeping them separate meant it never got too serious.
“I don’t have someone who looks at me like that,” she said, following me. “You have two of them!”
“Well, if you want them, then go for it,” I clipped, trying not to flinch from my lie.
Seeing them with someone else would hurt, it would destroy me.
“Wow,” she said. “You’d give them away just like that. You’d walk away from them because you're scared. I saw the way he looked at you as you were in his lap or how they looked at you when you came and talked to us.”
My heart raced as she continued to lecture me.
“I guess it's for the best that you show your true colors now because they can feel they dodged a bullet if you can’t even be woman enough and admit your feelings about them,” she said. “They don’t need someone who gives up so easily.”
“It’s just a contract,” I whispered, her words gutting me.
My lip trembled as she studied me, she shook her head before she turned around and left. The door shut with a loud thud as my heart beat erratically. I just pushed the three people I cared most about from my life in a matter of a half an hour.
I can’t do this, I don’t do this. This is why I kept everyone at arm's length.
“I know it's not my place, Madame,” Lou said, startling me. “Finding someone that makes you happy is not a weakness. It's empowering and you should see it as a gift. As it is, we have to deal with so much in life, and if we find something that makes life easier and happier then why would you let that go?”
“Happy things never last Lou, you of all people should know that.” I flinched at my statement.
“I do know that. He was my everything, but if I had to live life again and they gave me a choice with the same outcome,” he sighed. “I would choose him over and over again. Without him, I would never have known what it felt like to be loved and let me tell you, it’s fucking amazing.”
He didn’t wait for me to respond, walking to the back of the store because I was a bitch. My throat tightened, lip trembled as a tear fell down my cheek. I wouldn’t feel like this if I had just drawn up a damn contract. We could have defined whatever this was so both parties knew what we were getting. Even if we had signed the contract, would that have stopped my heart from doing what it wanted.
My phone vibrated in my hand and I immediately looked at it, deflating when I saw it wasn't anyone I wanted to hear from.
Coop - Hello Mistress, I’m in town for the week. I would love to see you. Same rate?
This is it, my chance to prove it was just a contract. I’m a Domme and it’s time I start fucking acting like one.
I walked into the Four Seasons like I owned the place with my bag of tricks in my hand two days later. This is what I wanted and what I needed. Camila called and texted me today, which only cemented my decision even more. I needed to create this boundary and let them know that I’m not only theirs.
I only had lingerie on underneath my big coat and the January air was cold as hell. I headed up to the room Coop had texted me, sharing an elevator with an older couple who were laughing together before he kissed her forehead. The look they shared made me nauseous. Camila and Luke did that.
The woman looked up at me, catching me as I stared. I gave her a small smile and she smiled back.
“Even forty years later, he still thinks he can get me into the sack by telling me how good my boobs look.”
I laughed, not expecting her to say that. “Does it work?”
“Eh, it's fifty-fifty,” the man said.
We laughed at his comment as we stopped on the floor I was supposed to get off.
“Good night,” I said, walking away. I turned back just as it was closing to see them kissing.
Forty years and they still looked head over heels for each other. Had I missed the way that Camila and Luke looked at me? I walked to the room as so many emotions hit me. The door opened, startling me.
Did I knock?
“Mistress,” Coop said with a smirk.
“Coop,” I clipped as I walked into the room. It was a gorgeous room, the further I walked in the more I felt like I shouldn’t be here.
The door shut loudly. When I turned around, Coop was taking off his suit jacket, studying me. His gaze felt awful and his green eyes weren’t the ones I wanted to see.
He began to undress as I put my bag down and I undid my coat. The moment he looked at what I was wearing, he kneeled on the floor, bile rose up in my throat.
“I can’t do this, Coop,” I said, my heart racing as my body broke out in a cold sweat.
“Excuse me?” He looked taken aback.
“I’ll refund you your deposit, but I can’t do this,” I said grabbing my coat and bag walking back to the door.
“I paid for two hours,” he snapped getting up.
“And I said I would refund you your money,” I retorted, trying to move around him.
“Don't be like that,” he said softly. “Stay please.”
“I can’t Coop,” I said, trying not to sound defeated.
“I paid a deposit, at least give me that.” The look in his eye made me uncomfortable.
“I said no,” I growled.
“Look.” He grabbed my upper arm tightly.
I looked down at his arm in disbelief gritting my teeth to avoid crying out in pain.
“I paid a deposit and I expect to get my money's worth,” he said, pushing me into a wall roughly tightening his grip. “Don’t waste my time.”
My head banged on the wall, as a sting of pain from my head and arm woke me up.
“Now, you listen,” I said, grabbing a hold of his balls hard enough he let me go. “You ever lay a hand on me, I swear to god I will stick you in a cock cage for a month strapped to a cross, enduring pain like you have never imagined.”
I tightened my grip.
“You will forget my number and if I ever see you again at the Atelier,” I leaned closer. “I’ll make sure Vincent knows of the state of your company. I hear he’s looking to broaden his portfolio.”
Coop had enough sense to look worried. I tightened my hold on his cock before I grabbed my things and walked right past him. I opened the door, closing it quickly and then walking to the elevator. A woman exited the elevator, her eye widened as I realized I was in my fucking lingerie. I rolled my eyes and walked into the elevator, hitting the ground floor and then threw my coat on.
My adrenaline was running high as I made my way to my car. Feeling vindictive, I pulled out my phone and dialed Vincent.
“Hello,” he answered.
“I need a favor,” I said, unlocking my car.
“Are you ok?” I heard a little rustling and someone asked who it was.
Sliding into my car, I took a deep breath. “Revoke Cooper’s membership.”
“Done,” he said immediately. “Should I be worried? Are you ok?”
“I’m…” Tears welled in my eyes. “I’m fine.”
“Genevieve,” he said sternly.
“Is she ok?” Easton’s voice was soft.
“I’m fine but he just tried to forcefully make me stay in his hotel room,” I said, exhaling a shaking breath.
“What room and what hotel,” Vincent snapped.
“I’m in my car,” I said, starting it to get the heat going. “I grabbed his crown jewels and told him if he tried that shit again I would tell you his family company is going under.”
“You tell him!” Easton yelled. “But we can go kick his ass for good measure.”
“I can keep a lookout!” Noemi’s voice came through.
“All jokes aside, are you ok?” Vincent’s tone was serious.
“I’m shaken up, but I am fine,” I said, feeling my body shake a little.
“I didn’t realize you were taking clients,” he said cautiously.
I don’t know where it came from but a sob escaped and I cried. It was like the dam broke and I couldn’t hold back my emotions anymore.
“Where are you?” Vincent asked softly. “Or come over and we can talk.”
I couldn’t stop the tears. I didn’t know what I was crying about, just that all of these emotions had been bottled up for too long and it was a release I didn’t know I had needed.
“I fucked up,” I said in between sobs.
“Come over we can talk about it and see what we need to do,” he said calmly.
“How did you do it?” I asked, because I knew Vincent wasn’t looking for love when he found Easton and Noemi.
He took a deep breath. “I fucked up too. I thought it was better if we ended it early. I could continue just living my life with contracts and Subs. I didn’t realize how complacent I had become, how consumed with work I had been and how for once I felt good coming home to someone. Until them, I didn’t realize how alone I had felt.”
It only made me cry harder.
“Are we… we… the same… person,” I said in between sobs.
“I think we set up this person we wanted to be, and it's not always who we are supposed to be,” he said. “Living life alone might keep our hearts safe, but what's the point if loneliness consumes you.”
“I don't want to be alone anymore,” I hiccupped. “But I don’t know how to be the woman they want me to be.”
“Did they say that? Did they ask you to be someone you're not?”
“No, but it's only?—”
“Genevieve,” he scolded. “You know better than anyone that you can’t assume anything. Don’t make the same mistake I did and not communicate. We know better and we know how important it is.”
“I already made that mistake,” I cried. “I pushed them away.”
“Are they worth fighting for?” he asked. “Think about it because the sooner you realize it, the sooner you can get your ass over to them and figure shit out.”
Did I want this? Images of us together in ten years popped up, laughing, cooking dinner and eating by the fire. These last few weeks have felt less lonely, have felt like I was wanted and I don’t ever think that I have ever felt this with someone other than Cheryl.
“I want them,” I whispered. “I miss them so much.”
“Then call them right now and go talk to them,” he said. “I bet they have been waiting for you and it’s probably a good thing you're good on your knees.”
That got a laugh out of me.
“Thank you,” I said. “I’m sorry I didn’t mean to call you and cry. It was honestly just to make sure Copper lost his membership.”
“Call me or us for anything,” he said. “We are always here for you.”
“Love has made you soft, Vincent,” I said, loving this new side to him.
“I like being soft,” he chuckled. “I think it was time I needed some softness and love in my life.”
“I want that too,” I whispered.
“Call them,” he said.
“I will,” I sighed.
“Also, let me know if Coop bothers you again,” he said sternly. “Easton says we can kick his ass. It will probably be him because I’m too old to kick someone's ass.”
“Nah, people like us hire someone to do the dirty work for us,” I chuckled.
“That's why I have all this money,” he said matter of factly. “Now go get your couple back.”
“I will,” I said. “Bye.”
“Genevieve don’t push them away, be happy, it feels fucking great,” he said before ending the call.
I wiped my tears, taking a big breath, dialing Camila before I chickened out. With each ring that went by the more I realized that maybe I had waited too long.
“Hello.” Camila’s voice was unsure.
“Hi,” I said. “Can I come over?”
It was quiet for a second.
“I didn’t think you were going to call back,” she said.
“I need to explain things, please.” I wasn’t above begging and Vincent was right. I was great on my knees.
“Ok,” she said.
“I’ll see you in fifteen minutes?” I didn’t keep the desperation out of my voice.
“Tomorrow for breakfast.” It wasn’t a question.
The urgency I had was going to make me go crazy all night.
“Ok, what time?” I didn’t want to rock the boat.
The phone sounded like it was moving around when I heard Luke’s voice. They were whispering and it didn’t sound like it was good.
“I’m sorry,” I blurted and they stopped talking. “I got scared. I have never had a relationship like ours and when Cheryl showed up, I shut down even though I knew it was wrong. These feelings I’m having made me irrational and I just want to say I’m sorry in person please.”
More silence, this made me think the worse.
“Come in fifteen minutes.” Luke's voice came through.
“I’m on my way.” The called end, for once feeling good about what was happening.
I could fix this and hopefully we could go back to how we were because I was so tired of being alone. This wasn’t living and if they would take me back I would show them that I want to try.
