Chapter Three

MADISON

I finally made it to Kissimmee. I got in about three in the morning. I crashed as soon as my head hit the pillow. I’ve been on the road for almost four days. I drove for almost ten hours each day to get here. Once I woke up this afternoon, I checked in with my dad and assured him I made it here just fine.

After hanging up with him, I got dressed and went to grab some food. I went to a diner for lunch, and it had to be the best food I have ever tasted. The clerk at the front desk of the motel recommended the diner. I owe her much thanks when I see her again. While I was there, I overheard a group of ladies talking about a party going on at the MC Jonah is a part of.

When the detective came back and told me he was part of a group of outlaw bikers, I second-guessed my decision of coming here. How deep off the edge had he fallen to become a criminal? I don’t know much about bikers, but whenever you see them on the news, it’s never good. In the end, I decide to give it a shot.

I wasn’t a hundred percent honest with my parents when I told them I had found Jonah. I just told them I found out where he worked. If I had told them I was headed for an MC clubhouse, they would have freaked out. I probably shouldn’t have held the full truth back. If something happened to me tonight, my parents wouldn’t know a thing. But it’s too late to turn back. It’s now or never, and if I die trying, then so be it.

Right now, I’m going through my suitcase, trying to find the perfect outfit. Apparently, from what the ladies at the diner said, if you wanted to get through the gates, you had to be dressed to the nines. They didn’t say it exactly like that, but I refuse to dress like a whore to get into a party.

I could tell those women were seeking to hook up with whoever tonight, but that’s not any of my business. I don’t judge woman like that. Everyone should live however they see fit. Me, personally, sex is something meaningful and should only be shared with someone special. Call me a hopeless romantic, if you will. At some point, I used to be.

Quickly shaking my head from the thoughts that would for sure send me into a spiral, I found a cute red dress. It’s sleeveless and stops right to the middle of my thighs. Grabbing my nude pumps, I lay them next to my dress on the bed before I hop into the shower. After I dry off, I get dressed. I pull my hair into a neat ponytail and apply my makeup.

I haven’t had a reason to get dolled up in a long time. Occasionally, I would be invited out by some of the other nurses who wanted to get to know me. Every now and again, I would accept the invitations, but I never drank, and I always paid attention to my surroundings.

After I’m dressed and I calm my nerves, I grab my car keys, clutch, and room key and head to my car. The motel I chose isn’t too far from the clubhouse. I wanted to be close to my things if I had to make an escape. Within fifteen minutes, I pull up to a steel gate. There’s a booth next to it, but no one is standing near the gate.

Looking out my window, I spot an intercom. I put down my window and press the button. “You here for the party, babe?” a voice asks.

“Y-yeah.”

“Step out of the car.”

My heart speeds up as I think this was a huge mistake, but then I remember what the girls at the diner said. If you have any chance of making it through the gate, you have to look smoking hot. Against my better judgment, I step out of the car and glance around nervously.

“You’re good. Make your way toward the clubhouse. Park next to the cars, not the bikes.”

The gate rolls open and I drive through. Driving up the dirt path, I can hear the music from inside my car. I quickly spot the row and row of cars and I park mine. Stuffing my keys in my clutch, I get out of the car and take a deep breath.

You can do this, Madison. This is to get your life back.

Walking through the doors of the clubhouse, it’s exactly what I expected—bodies grinding together on the dance floor, woman dancing on tables, strippers, drinks, and I’m pretty sure a guy in the corner is getting a blow job.

I make my way through the sweaty bodies on the dance floor and do my best to scope the room for Jonah, but I don’t see him anywhere. I head for the bar and try and get the bartender’s attention. My nerves start to take over and my heart beats erratically.

Someone comes up behind me. My back is flush against them. “How about we go have some fun, sexy?” a man whispers in my ear. His hand goes to my hip, and I pull away with a shriek, shaking my head. When I turn around, the guy watches me with concern.

I did a little research about MCs before coming here, so I know the vest he’s wearing is called a cut and his road name should be on it. I quickly scan the front of his cut and see his name is Dice .

“N-no thanks. I’m looking for someone.”

“And who’s the lucky bastard, sweetheart?”

I try and rack my scrambled brain for what the detective said Jonah’s road name was. “Thor.”

When I found out his name, I laughed a little. Growing up, he hated how people always said he looked like Chris Hemsworth’s twin, and it seems his biker buddies thinks the same.

“That lucky asshole. He’s out back, babe. Take that door right there. He was just out there five minutes ago.”

Not going to lie, that went way smoother than I thought it would. I didn’t think a biker could be so nice, and I definitely expected him to get angry when I told him no. But he actually looked concerned when I got scared. Muttering a thank you with a nod, I take off for the door he pointed to.

When I make it outside, it’s like another party—more bodies grinding against each other and lots of alcohol. I spot a bonfire and make my way over. As I walk over, I hear the voice of the man who was once the love of my life.

“I’m telling you, Cara, you have to change up that boy’s diet. He farted in my face, and I thought my skin was about to melt off!”

The crowd around them roars with laughter. A short woman, who can’t be more than five foot three, glares up at him and slaps the back of her hand on his shoulder.

“Stop talking about my babies like that. There’s nothing wrong with Khai. He just has manly farts is all.”

“They’re my babies too, Cara. It’s all coming from a place of love. No tiny human should produce those kinds of smells.”

The laughter from the crowd dies out in the background as my heart sinks. He has kids. I should have known he would continue to live his life as if nothing had happened. I turn to get out of here. This was a mistake. I know if he has a woman and kids, he wouldn’t dare try and help me.

Before I can get far, another guy grabs me. This one doesn’t have a cut. He’s dressed in regular clothes, so my guess is he isn’t a part of the club. His breath reeks of alcohol and we almost tumble to the ground. I try my best to pull away, but his grip is firm.

“Come on, sexy. Let’s get out of here.” He tries kissing me, and I throw my hands up in front of my face, trying to push the man away. He keeps up his efforts, undeterred by me scratching and clawing to get free.

“Please, stop!”

I knew coming here was a mistake and now my biggest fear is happening all over again.

Suddenly, the man is gone, and Dice is standing in front of me. “You okay, babe?”

I nod as my tears fall. Dice curses under his breath and shouts across the lawn. “Thor, get over here!”

I try and protest, but I hear the shuffle of people behind me. “What’s going on, brother?”

After ten years, his voice still gives me goosebumps.

What the hell?

Luckily, my brain and heart are still intact. “This little lady said she was here looking for you.” Before I can make a run for it, Dice spins me around and I’m face-to-face with Jonah. I expected him to be pissed, but he looks downright murderous. I take a step backward and my back is against Dice once again. Thor trains his gaze on Dice and growls. In a second, Dice’s body heat is gone.

“The fuck you doing here, Madison?” he growls with a deep scowl.

My mouth opens and closes like a fish out of water. I am completely speechless at the level of animosity he’s giving me. If anyone has a right to be upset or hostile, it’s me.

“ The Madison?” the woman from earlier asks him.

When Jonah nods, she too sends me a glare that also makes me take a step back. Turning back over to Jonah, she asks, “Want me to kill her?”
