CHAPTER EIGHT

NESSAH

O h fuck, now I had three angry Alphas glaring at me and the worst of all was the one who just entered the room.

And he knows. How could he not? There’s no denying this pull.

I could feel the heat radiating off him. A storm brewing behind his blazing eyes. His anger jolted in the air between us, electrifying and intoxicating, but fuck he was beautiful and sexy.

It stirred something within. A yearning that tightened with every heartbeat. My wolf felt it too. She was erratic and raging with the need to connect. I shouldn’t have wanted him this way, not when his fury was so palpable, but the pull was undeniable. God, it was much worse than others had described. More than I could remotely process. My wolf recognized what this meant even in the chaos of his anger and my emotions.

“Leave.” Zion’s deep tenor roared through the air and my eyes quickly locked on his brothers, almost pleading. Xander’s brows pinched in conflict but Lazar settled into a cocky grin that forced chills down my spine. Zion was prepared to fuck me senseless at the same time he was prepared to rip me apart limb by limb and Lazar seemed to be rooting for the latter of the two.

Seconds later, he and Xander were gone and I heard the clang of metal meeting metal. The door closed. We were in here, together, alone. It was just him and me, a battlefield of unspoken words and chaos wrapped into confusion as to how we got here.

I could taste the tension, thick and sweet, and my heart thrummed in a rhythm that matched his. Even in his anger, I saw the flicker of something deeper. A connection that tugged at my very soul and his.

“What’s your name?”

“Nessah.”

“You’re friends with Mina?”

Damnit. I could lie but he would likely know.

“Not friends…” His eyes flared and I quickly added, “She’s my cousin.”

“How long have you been here?”

“Not long. Just a few hours.”

The veins in his neck throbbed and his eyes, a fierce shade of amber rimmed in red, blazed with an intensity that could shred me to pieces.

“Not in here . I mean with my pack.” The low growl of his voice vibrated off my skin, creating a feeling of pure torture.

“A while.” If I was specific, he would know, but my evasiveness only further pissed him off. Zion moved with long paces, crossing the room, unlocking the cage and stepping inside. His nostrils flared and his chin lifted. He knew but he still demanded that I confirm.

“How long?”

“I got here right before you left.”

His fists clenched tighter. I felt his wolf reacting to mine. “It was you, wasn’t it?”

“M-me?”

“You know what the fuck I’m asking. You were the one in that bed. It was you.”

I nodded slowly and he was on me in a matter of seconds. My back pressed against the wall and his body pressed against mine, while his forearms landed above my head. He dropped his head and I felt the graze of his nose along the curve of my jaw down my neck as he inhaled, taking me in.

My wolf howled, a deep, instinctual cry, urging me to surrender to the magnetic pull that bound us. She craved his presence, his strength, and the bond that could only be forged between my wolf and his. The throbbing need for connection pulsed through my core and a desperate need for the warmth of his touch, the taste of his lips, but what I got was the blaze of anger in his eyes and bared teeth.

“Did you know? Why did you let me chase her? She wasn’t mine. You are.”

“Be-because we can’t do this.”

Zion lifted his head and those blazing amber eyes which were outlined in red locked on mine. His insanely handsome face shifted from an angry scowl to a cocky scowl that caused my pussy to pulse. “We’re doing this, beautiful….” He leaned in closer. I could smell the liquor on his tongue when he added. “But first you’re going to explain why the fuck you wasted my time.”

Zion pushed away from the wall, his long, powerful body still towered over me. I couldn't tear my gaze away from him, the way he stood so close, raw power and undeniable allure. His broad shoulders filled the space around him, muscles taut and defined beneath his tight-fitting shirt that seemed to strain against his sculpted physique. Every inch of him radiated dominance, from the way he held his head high to the fierce glint in his piercing eyes that promised protection, passion, and the worst, retribution.

“Let’s go.”

“Go.” My eyes widened. “Go where?”

“To my apartment. You owe me an explanation and as much as I want to leave you here to reconsider your refusal to tell me why the fuck you betrayed me, my wolf won’t allow me to leave you behind. So you’re coming with me. Move, now.”

My body jerked from the sheer force of his words and the command delivered. I opened my mouth to argue but the heated blaze of his stare had me slamming it shut and complying.

I’m so fucking screwed and I so want to be screwed…by him.

The tension pulsing between us was palpable.

Hate.

Lust.

Hate.

Lust.

Zion was struggling with both as he glared at me from across the room. He made sure to keep a safe distance but was there really a safe distance when it came to the intensity of what was flickering between the two of us.

“I feel your wolf,” he stated calmly ,even though I could see his body physically thrumming and vibrating with energy. “And she feels mine, which means that you do too.”

I blinked several times but didn’t speak. “You know what we are, Nessah .”

Oh fuck, hearing my name pass through his lips was dangerous.

“I do and it’s not going to make sense to you but this can’t happen. You and I, we can’t be what you think we are.”

He smiled sinfully slow. “What I think we are?”

The look he gave dared me to contradict him which had a correction slowly fumbling from my mouth. “What we are. This doesn’t work.”

“You’re rejecting me?” The words were threatening, icy, and dark. Just the idea of them, forced more tension in my chest.

Oh fuck, how am I going to do this? I can’t.

But I have to.

“If I don’t…”

“You won’t ,” he warned with narrowed eyes. I swallowed thickly and flinched when Zion crossed the room with slow, deliberate steps. Those blazing eyes remained on me the entire time and no matter how intense they were, I couldn’t look away. “Regardless of the secrets you’re keeping, Nessah. You’re mine. Mine to decide if I want to keep…” He reached out and his long fingers grazed the curve of my jaw, softly at first before a firm grip took my chin in his hand, tilting it upward until our gazes locked. His intense eyes bored into mine with attraction and anger swirling in them. “Or if I’m going to find a way to make you as miserable as I’ve been chasing someone who should have never had my attention because it wasn’t hers to have.”

It had always been mine…

The room was charged with tension as he loomed above me, the weight of his presence was crushing, but he was unyielding.

“Do you think you can handle my torture, Nessah?” he questioned, his voice was low and gravelly, each word dripping with dominance.

My breath caught as his thumb brushed lightly against my jawline, a contrast to the fierce grip he held.

Once again my wolf felt the challenge and pushed my response. “You might want to be sure you can handle me .”

“Don’t push your luck, beautiful,” he murmured, his voice a dangerous whisper that sent shivers down my spine. I held his gaze, the fire and defiance in my eyes matched his and then he let me go and crossed the room again. When he reached the corner, he yanked a bottle of Cognac and turned it up, smiling sinfully devilish at me when he was done.

“Tell me your secrets, Nessah, because if you don’t hand them over, I’ll force them out of you.”

In that moment, we were locked in a battle of wills, both refusing to back down, yet also feeling the magnetic draw that threatened to snap our composure.
