CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
ZION
I t was just after lunch the next day when we made it back to the city. Neyla had been staying at some shitty hotel downtown in Diamond Falls because it was cheap so I purchased a room at our hotel because Nessah wanted her close.
When we woke up that morning, I drove Neyla to her place where she and Nessah packed her things and the three of us left, heading to the city. As much as I wanted Nessah all to myself, I also loved that she had her sister. Knowing how I felt when Xander was gone, and the way my brothers expressed their struggle with the three months I was chasing a mate that was never mine, gave me an understanding of how hard it had to be for both Nessah and Neyla to be separated.
I reached out to Lazar to let him know I was bringing Neyla with us. He wasn’t thrilled but also understood I wasn’t asking his permission. The decision was mine to make. She was my mate’s sister and if having Neyla here with us was what she needed, it was as good as done. No one, not even my brothers, could challenge my decision.
As soon as we entered the building, I noticed the difference in how I felt the day I returned. That pulsing need I felt entering the lobby and the unsettled feeling that nagged at my soul was now satiated. I glanced at Nessah seconds before we stepped into the elevator and she arched her brow in curiosity, trying to see where my head was at. It was as if she could feel my thoughts and I fucking loved that she felt me as strongly as I felt her.
I love you. – Me
I love me too. – Nessah
I barked a laugh and Neyla grinned, bouncing her eyes between us.
“I want to play too.”
“Then tell your sister you love her so she’ll be three for three.”
“I’m so lost,” she mumbled as the doors opened to the second floor.
“I told your sister I love her. Her response was I love me too. If you tell her you love her, that’s three for three,” I explained while Nessah removed keys from her backpack and unlocked the door.
Once we were inside, I dumped Neyla’s two duffels on the sofa and she parked her rolling suitcase next to it. “Was that really your reason?”
“Yep.” Nessah shrugged and turned to her sister. “Come on. I’ll give you a tour of the apartment then I’ll take you around the rest of the building…”
“That will have to wait. We have to go see Laz and Jo. Neyla can hang out here until later.”
“Oh…” Nessah frowned. “Well here, you take my keys just in case you want to explore. I’ll text you my access code so you can get to the pack only areas of the building.”
“Don’t bother. I’m tired, so if it’s okay, I’m going to shower, hang out here, and get settled.”
“You can do whatever you want.” Nessah smiled big. “Well, almost anything. Leaving is not an option.” She looped her arm through her sister’s and walked her to the back of the apartment. I waited for Nessah to give her sister the grand tour, then the two of us took the elevator to our floor, dropped our bags off, and crossed the hall to my brother’s place. She stopped me before I was about to enter.
“She can stay, right? They’re not going to make her leave, that’s not why we’re here?”
“It’s my decision, not theirs, so yes she can stay. But Jo and Laz don’t want her to leave.”
Nessah relaxed and leaned into me, fisting the sides of my shirt. She dropped her head back and smiled. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” I lowered my head and brushed my lips over hers before I kissed my mark. She moaned in the back of her throat and pulled me closer.
“And for the record, as much as I love myself, I love you more.”
“Is that right?”
“Very right. And as soon as we’re done here, I can show you just how right we are.”
“You finally marked her, didn’t you?”
Xander’s voice interrupting our moment pulled a growl from me. He chuckled, kissed Nessah on the cheek, and stepped around us. “Welcome to the family, Nessah. Looks like my baby brother finally grew a set. You’re officially one of us.”
Fuck you. – Me
Payback is a bitch, Zi.- Xander
I was always giving him shit about being a man to Toyin and Rafe. There was no doubt he was going to be on my ass with this one.
Laz and Jo were already inside waiting but I hadn’t expected Phalen Knight and his Beta Lobo to be here.
“Zion.” Lobo greeted me first with a handshake, followed by Phalen. They both smiled and nodded at Nessah.
“Looks like all the Bennett brothers are all off the market,” Lobo said with amusement. “Congratulations, Zi.”
“Thank you and same because from what I hear, while I was gone you finally stopped pretending you didn’t want your Alpha’s homegirl. What’s her name, Kim, Katherine…”
“Keyshauna and don’t fucking playing with me, Zion. The only reason I’m not offended is because I’m the only one who needs to know her name.”
Phalen smirked. “Chill. Key got his ass all defensive.”
“As she should. That’s his mate,” Lazar added. “And in consideration of our mates, I won’t hold you long. We can get started.”
“Oh, you’re considering mates now?” Jo came from the back, pulling her wild orange hair up into a bun.
“Don’t I always?” Lazar arched his brow and she smiled so damn big I almost laughed.
You were fucking right before we got here, weren’t you? – Me
Were you? - Lazar
No, but I will be as soon as we’re done. So let’s get this over with. – Me
Laz groaned and pointed to the living room for everyone to get seated. I sat, bringing Nessah down on my lap. Jo sat on the other corner of the sofa while Laz sat on the arm closest to her. Phalen filled the armchair while Xander and Phalen elected to stand.
“We have to figure out what to do with the Calhoun Pack. Rolf isn’t an acceptable Alpha. Regardless of how we felt about Seth, and please be clear I don’t fucking like him, at the very least he ruled the pack better than Rolf,” my brother stated bluntly.
Everyone nodded in agreement and Phalen spoke up. “Since you killed Seth, there’s no leadership left in place with the Calhoun Pack. We can’t have that.”
“And Rolf doesn’t count. Damn sure can’t have that muthafucker running loose over there with no supervision,” Lobo gritted.
Lazar nodded. “Phalen and I discussed things and came up with two options. Either we demand Calhoun leave Hollow Grove…”
“That’s not fair to the rest of the pack. Hollow Grove has been their home for the past five years. It was my home…”
“ Was …” I stated, tightening my arm around her waist.
I’m your home now. – Me
You are. – Nessah.
“My point is, I don’t think it’s fair to make them leave because of poor leadership. That’s not something they could control.”
“I agree,” Jo stated.
“Which I knew you would…” Laz kissed Jo on the neck. “So Phalen and I decided the best option was to find new leadership for Calhoun.”
“There are no other Alphas in their pack other than Rolf ,” I stated.
“We’ll have to elect one, train them, and make sure they are prepared to handle the responsibilities, which works in our favor…” Xander spoke up.
“We train the person so we know for sure they’re solid. No more breaking bylaws due to poor leadership and Calhoun becomes a true wolf community,” Phalen asserted.
“The only problem is, we either keep Rolf in place until we get someone selected and trained or we get rid of him now and have to send someone there to oversee the pack. Under normal circumstances, that would be you, Zion, because you killed the next in line to lead their pack.”
“I know you don’t think I’m going to oversee Calhoun while you figure this shit out,” I gritted.
“No, I don’t, which is why we’re electing to keep Rolf in place until we get someone trained. We just have to present it to Logan and Hubbard but keep in mind, they could demand you go.”
Seth had attacked me. I had every right to kill him but that didn’t mean I could escape the consequences. No member of any pack was above council rule, even us. If they voted and the majority demanded I go, I would have to.
“I’ll do whatever I have to as long as that shit is temporary.”
“It would be but it’s not happening. I already have someone in mind,” Phalen stated, getting everyone’s attention. “Moro Basque has a nephew who has been with Calhoun for the past couple of months. His father and brother are both Alphas so he was raised under Alphas. He’s the youngest of his siblings so he has no claim to their pack. I’ve met him several times. He’s smart, a natural leader and well-liked.”
“I’ve worked with him on tactical training. The same training our Deltas go through and he’s good,” Lobo added.
“Sounds like a good fit.” Lazar agreed with their decision and shit so did I if it meant I didn’t have to waste time there. “Phalen, you and I can work with him on everything else. If he’s smart and a natural leader, it shouldn’t take much to get him up to speed to take over as Alpha.”
“So that’s the plan?” Jo asked and we all nodded in agreement.
“Alright then. We’ll have to make sure we keep things concealed until we get him trained. It will have to be here so Rolf doesn’t know what we’re doing.”
“He’ll have to agree…” Lobo stated. “He’s staying with his aunt, looking after her. She’s blind or something. That’s why he’s been with Calhoun. The kid is very protective…”
Nessah tensed and I knew exactly why.
“What’s his name?” I asked.
“Karr.” Phalen confirmed what Nessah and I were both thinking.
“Well, like I said, I don’t want to hold you guys. If we’re all on board with this then we have a plan. There are two months until the next council meeting. Zion will have to stand before them for killing Seth but we’ll present the option we came up with to solve the issue of Rolf not being fit to lead Calhoun.”
Phalen addressed my brothers. “You and I together have the ability to override any votes if we deem it necessary for the betterment of all the packs.”
“You do, but we don’t want them feeling as if we’ll use that power to our advantage for family,” Xander clarified and Lazar glared at him.
We muthafuckin’ will if that’s what it takes. – Lazar
No, we won’t. It would be temporary and not worth the issues it will cause. – Me
Oh fuck, look who decided to show up as a man. A true Alpha. – Xander
Fuck you. I’ve always been a man and an Alpha.- Me
Relax, baby brother. We know. No one is testing your manhood. And Xan, you’re right. We don’t need to start separating ourselves by using favoritism. – Lazar
“Family meeting over?” Phalen arched his brow. He knew we were discussing the matter privately. Lazar only smirked.
“Yeah, we’re done. We won’t override the decision if they send me to Calhoun,” I let them know.
“Alright then. It’s time for me to get back to Allure.”
“How are she and the twins?” Jo smiled but Phalen’s ass smiled bigger.
“They’re perfect. We’ll visit soon. It’s been awhile. Speaking of, where are the boys?”
“With Toy. There was no way we could have gotten this done in peace with them here.”
“I can relate. The twins are giving us hell.”
Jo grinned. “I can only imagine. Send my love.” Jo smiled wider and turned to Lobo. “To Key as well.”
After the meeting was over, everyone said their goodbyes and left. I crossed the hall and entered my place. We moved to the kitchen and I lifted Nessah on the counter, caging her in with my palms next to her thighs. I leveled my eyes with hers.
“What was that about in there? Is there a problem with Karr?” My wolf growled and Nessah smiled.
“Relax, big guy. No problem for me but there might be one for Neyla.”
“Why would it be a problem for her?”
“They have a thing.”
I frowned, not liking the sound of that, and she added, “They’re not together. She told me he has someone else but you heard how he said her name. He has feelings for my sister. Karr was helping her stay under the pack’s radar. He’s the only one she trusted to know where she was and when we showed up, he’s the one who helped her find me.”
“I didn’t notice anything different about how he said her name.” I leaned in and kissed down her neck to where I’d marked her and dragged the tip of my tongue over the spot. “But all I see is you, all I know is you, so I wouldn’t have.”
“Can we focus please…” she moaned but eased her hips forward.
“Do you want me to say something?”
“No, I’m going to let Neyla know he’ll be training here and the two of them will have to figure it out.”
“He can’t be distracted. Lazar and Phalen won’t like that shit.”
“I can’t promise he won’t be distracted, but I do know she will keep her distance. She’s not going to get in the middle of his relationship.”
I nodded, already over the conversation. “Problem solved then.”
I reached for Nessah’s shoes and removed them from her feet one by one before I tapped her hip. “Lift.”
She smiled but pressed her palms to the counter and lifted so I could get her out of her jeans and panties.
“Now let’s revisit the topic of who you love.”
I dropped to my haunches, spread her thighs, and dragged my tongue down Nessah’s slit.
“With your face down there? That’s an unfair advantage.”
I smirked and sucked on her clit, inhaling her sweet scent. Her arousal was thick and heavy with need. My little storm was in heat. “I know but I like to ensure I always have the upper hand.”
Greedy to give her what she needed, my tongue pushed through her folds and began to explore. The taste of her was perfection and my dick began to pulsate and thicken even more. I groaned, trying to control the urge to say fuck it and give my dick what he wanted. Inside Nessah’s pussy.
I got to work swirling my tongue, licking and sucking while she pushed her hips forward, rocking them against me. I needed her to cum.
“Zion…”
“Yeah, baby?”
“More…please.”
Her voice was shaking and brought a smile to my face. Her pleas would be answered. I sucked hard on her clit and widened my mouth, swiping hard then soft, diving in, circling, teasing, and fucking her with my tongue.
It didn’t take long before she was shaking uncontrollably, her body trembling with very little restraint. I worked harder, moving my tongue faster until she exploded, screaming my name in a plea of desperation. So fucking good. I slowed my pace and began licking her softly while she convulsed and trembled through the last of her release. Once her body settled, I kissed her softly before lifting my eyes to hers.
“Of fuck…you win. You definitely win,” Nessah rushed out on a harsh breath.
I stood, freed my dick, and thrust into her hard, making sure I bottomed out. Then I gripped her neck and brought her face to mine, kissing her deeply.
No little storm, we both win. – Me
Agreed. - Nessah
