Chapter Nineteen
Nate
I wake up to an empty bed.
No sign of her. No note. Nothing.
My hand moves to my chest, running over the claw marks she left behind. They’re red, raised, and they sting like hell when I press down, but I can’t stop touching them. Jade is feral, just like I fucking knew she’d be. But I didn’t expect her to vanish.
I sit up, running a hand through my hair, still groggy as hell. I’ve never slept so deeply. I don’t even remember closing my eyes. Now I’m late for work.
“Shit.”
I scramble out of bed and head straight for the shower. The water’s hot, nearly scalding, but it does nothing to wash off the way she marked me. I stare at the scratches she left, memories flashing of last night—her nails dragging across my back, her teeth at my neck.
I feel the ache in my muscles and know I’m wrecked. It was fucking worth it.
By the time I’m dressed and heading out the door, I’m already thinking about how to track her down. But first, practice. On my way there, I start a video call with Sadie, who assures me that the sleepover went even better than she expected.
When I step into the rink, the sound of skates cutting across ice greets me. I glance around and catch sight of Carter, leaning against the boards.
“Yo, Carter!” I call out, but he barely reacts, just gives me a half-assed nod. He looks distracted.
“Everything good?” I ask, moving closer.
“Yeah, coach. All good.” His voice is tight, like he’s barely keeping it together. Whatever’s going on, he’s not sharing, and I’m not in the mood to pry. Not when I’ve got my own shit to handle.
I spot the guys already warming up on the ice—Troy, Jake, Jamie, and Marcus. They’re chatting, laughing, exuding easy going friendship as they skate around. Declan’s standing near the bench, clipboard in hand, looking way too fucking focused.
“Dec!” I shout, making my way over.
He glances up. “You’re late.”
“No shit.” I smirk. “Run through some of the plays with the guys. I’ve got something I need to take care of.”
His eyes narrow, but he doesn’t say anything. He knows better.
Once the players are settled into their drills, I’m out of there, heading straight to Jade’s office.
Her door’s closed when I get there, but I can see her through the window. She is sitting at her desk, flipping through files like nothing’s changed. Like she didn’t wreck me last night. She’s wearing a tight pencil skirt and a blouse that hugs her curves in all the right places. Fuck, she looks good. Too good.
I push the door open and step inside, locking it behind me. Her head snaps up, eyes wide.
“Nate?”
“You didn’t wake me up,” I say, walking toward her.
“I wanted you to rest.” Her voice is calm, but her eyes…there’s something there, like she wasn’t expecting me.
I reach her desk in two strides, leaning down, grabbing the edge as I cage her in. Her lips part, but she doesn’t back away. Doesn’t tell me to stop.
“That wasn’t your call,” I growl, grabbing her chin and tilting her face up to mine.
Before she can respond, I kiss her. Hard. Her mouth opens and I slide my tongue in, tasting her again. She melts into me, her hands gripping my shirt as she moans against my lips.
I pull back, breathing hard. “Why’d you leave?”
She blinks up at me, dazed. “I didn’t think…”
“Yeah, you didn’t.” I cut her off, yanking her up from the chair and turning her around, pressing her down onto the desk. Her ass is right there, begging for my hands. I push her skirt up, revealing her bare skin.
“Fuck, Jade,” I groan, running a hand over her ass. “You didn’t wear any panties to work?”
She doesn’t answer, just whimpers as I kick her legs apart. I can feel how wet she is, how ready she is. I don’t waste time, pulling a condom from my back pocket, rolling it on as I position myself behind her.
“You’re gonna take it like this,” I say, leaning over her, kissing the back of her neck. “And you’re gonna tell me you don’t regret a damn thing about last night.”
“I don’t,” she cries out as I slam into her, filling her in one hard thrust.
Her hands scramble for purchase on the desk, her body arching under me as I fuck her, hard and fast. She’s panting, moaning, and I can’t stop. I don’t want to stop.
“Say it again,” I growl against her ear, my hand sliding up to cover her mouth.
“I don’t—fuck, Nate—I don’t regret it,” she sobs, her voice muffled by my hand.
“Good,” I grunt, pounding into her harder, the sound of skin slapping skin filling the room. “Now come for me, Jade. I need you to come, so I can get back to the damn game.”
She’s so close, I can feel it. Her body tightens, her legs shaking as she tips over the edge. Her muffled cries vibrate against my palm as she clenches around me, and it’s enough to send me over too.
“Fuck,” I groan, thrusting one last time before collapsing against her.
For a minute, we just stay like that, both of us breathing hard, my hand still covering her mouth. I pull out slowly, grabbing a tissue from her desk to clean us both up. She’s still bent over, her hair a mess, her cheeks flushed. Fucking perfect.
I bend down, kissing her shoulder. “You’re beautiful.”
She doesn’t say anything, just turns her head to look at me, her eyes soft, a little dazed.
“You coming to the birthday party tomorrow?” I ask, pulling her skirt back down.
She nods, her voice still shaky. “Yeah.”
“Good.” I grab her face, kissing her again, softer this time, then pull back and head for the door.
“See you tonight,” I say over my shoulder, not waiting for a response before I’m gone, heading back to the rink.
I’ve got practice to finish, and now, I’ve got Jade on my mind.
***
Sadie’s been buzzing about tonight since I picked her up. I told her all about my friend Jade coming over for dinner, and ever since then, it’s been all she talks about. Especially Jade’s puppy. The moment I mentioned a dog, Sadie’s eyes lit up like Christmas.
“Is she really bringing her puppy, Daddy?” she’d ask on repeat.
“Yeah, Sadie, she promised. Little guy’s name is Shadow,” I’d tell her each time.
Now, Jade’s here. Shadow too. And Sadie? She’s completely lost in her own little world with Jade, all smiles and giggles, completely ignoring me and the burgers I’m grilling. Not that I mind. Jade’s got this warm, easy way about her. The way Sadie took to her right away—no hesitation, no shyness—kinda feels like a good sign.
I flip a burger and glance over at Jade sitting on the couch. She’s laughing with Sadie while Shadow climbs into her lap, tugging at Sadie’s ponytail. It’s…nice. More than nice, actually.
“Burgers are almost done!” I call over, and Sadie claps like she’s never eaten before in her life. Jade meets my eyes, giving me a soft smile. It hits me in a way I wasn’t expecting.
Dinner goes by in a blur of Sadie’s chatter, Shadow crawling all over Jade, and me trying to keep up with the two of them. Eventually, though, Sadie’s yawns start to outweigh her energy, and she’s out like a light not long after her head hits the pillow.
Once it’s just me and Jade, the air between us shifts. It’s quieter, more charged.
I clear my throat, leaning back in my chair, eyes on Jade across the table. “So, how are you doing, really?”
She hesitates, like she doesn’t quite know how to answer. Then she shrugs. “I’m okay.”
It’s a bullshit answer, but I let it slide for now.
“You talk to Millie about the birthday party?” I ask, breaking the silence.
She nods, her fingers tracing the rim of her water glass. “Yeah, I talked to her.”
“And Carter? Axel?” I lean forward a little, pressing. “Like I suggested?”
Her eyes flick up to mine, and she bites her lip. “I talked to Carter, but I haven’t gotten around to Axel yet.”
I smile, reaching out to cup her cheek, my thumb brushing her skin lightly. “We’ll share you, Jade, but you need to be honest about what you want.”
Her breath catches, eyes widening slightly. “I want all of you. I know it’s selfish, and I shouldn’t, but…”
I cut her off, kissing her. Softly at first, but that quickly shifts into something more urgent, more raw. She leans into it, and I taste the desperation in her, the need. When I finally pull back, her lips are swollen, and her breathing’s a little erratic.
She doesn’t say anything for a second, then she blurts out, “Tell me about the thruple you were in. Back when you were younger.”
My eyes narrow. She’s always known. I didn’t hide it, but it’s never been a conversation we’ve dug into. “You really want to hear about that?”
She nods, biting her lip again. Fuck. She always does that when she’s thinking and it’s just so damn hot.
I exhale, leaning back in my chair, staring at her. “It was a long time ago. We were young, dumb, and thought we could figure everything out. Didn’t work. Two girls, one guy, it was a mess. They were into each other more than they were into me.” I shrug. “Shit happens. But we all learned.”
“You sure you don’t mind me…” She trails off, nervous, her eyes flicking to mine.
I don’t give her a chance to finish that sentence. “No, Jade. I don’t mind.” I pause, watching her for a beat. “But I do think the four of us should talk. Really talk. Figure out what the fuck we’re doing.”
She bites her lip harder this time. “Okay. But…not tonight?”
A slow grin spreads across my face. “Not tonight.”
I stand up, moving around the table to her, taking her hand in mine. “Come on.”
She looks up at me, a little unsure, but when I tug her up from her seat, she doesn’t resist. I lead her down the hall, past the sleeping dog in the darkened living room and go straight to my bedroom.
Inside, the room’s dimly lit, quiet. I turn to her, my hands sliding up her arms, my lips ghosting across her ear. “You need to be quiet while I make you come. Then I’m gonna fuck you. And in the morning, I’ll drive you home.”
She shudders, her hands gripping my shirt, but her voice is steady. “What about Shadow?”
I chuckle, pulling her closer, my hand sliding down to the small of her back. “The dog’s passed out on the couch. I’ll check on him later. Right now, I’m focused on you.”
I push her down onto the bed, kneeling in front of her, spreading her legs as I settle between them. Her breath hitches, and she grabs onto the sheets, making her knuckles white.
I look up at her, smirking. “You good with this?”
She nods quickly, her chest rising and falling faster.
“Good. Get on your hands and knees.”
She gives me a sly grin, and changes position for me, glancing back at me over her shoulder coyly.
I don’t waste time. My hands grab her thighs, spreading her wide as I drag my tongue over her. She’s already wet, soaking, and I fucking love it. I dip my fingers into her, then move them higher, to her pucker. She glances back at me questioningly for a moment, but then her eyes close and her mouth opens as I start slowly stretching her.
“Has anyone ever done this to you?” I ask her, my voice sounding rough, like a stranger’s.
She shakes her head quickly, the movement jerky, then moans. “Sorry,” she says quietly. “I said I’d be quiet.”
“You did promise me that,” I tell her, my tone firm.
“It’s just so good,” she murmurs. She bites back another moan, leaning back into me.
She’s close, I can tell. Her body’s shaking. I wrap my hand in her long, silky hair and tug, forbidding her from falling forward. She hisses with surprise as I pull her back upright.
“Nate…I’m…I’m…” she pants, her whole body quivering.
“Come for me, Jade,” I say demandingly, tugging at her hair again.
Her back arches, her hands fisting in the sheets as she lets go, trembling as she comes, hard. I don’t stop, my fingers fucking her through it, until she’s pulling away, too sensitive to take more.
I stand up, watching her try to catch her breath. She’s flushed, panting and her hair a mess. Perfect.
“You’re beautiful,” I murmur, pulling a condom from my pocket and rolling it on.
She looks back at me, still dazed, and whispers, “Are you sure?”
I climb over her, draping my body over hers, my cock pressing against her entrance. I lean down, kissing her shoulder, then nipping where I laid the gentle kiss.
“I’m sure.”
I push into her, slow but deep, watching her arch back as she takes me. Her mouth falls open, her hands clutching at the sheets. I groan, setting a steady pace, her legs wrapping around my waist, pulling me deeper.
“Fuck, Jade…” I grunt, thrusting harder, my body on autopilot now, all instinct. She’s moaning, gasping, and it’s driving me crazy. I can’t stop. Don’t want to stop.
“You like this?” I ask, my voice low and rough.
“Yes,” she whimpers, pressing back against me. “Yes, Nate, fuck…”
I pound into her, the sound of skin slapping skin filling the room. She’s close again, I can feel it. Her body’s tightening, her moans getting louder.
“Come for me again,” I growl.
She does, her body tensing, her legs shaking. I follow right after, groaning her name as I come, collapsing against her, both of us a sweaty, panting mess.
For a minute, neither of us moves. We just hold still, catching our breath, her body still trembling slightly under mine.
I pull out and walk to the bathroom, tossing the condom in the trash. When I come back, she’s rolled onto her side. Her breath is still coming quickly. I pull her into my arms and she rests her head on my chest, her fingers tracing patterns over my skin.
“You okay?” I ask, my voice soft now.
She nods, her breathing steady. “Yeah. I’m good.”
I press a kiss to her forehead. “Good.”
For a while, we just lie there, tangled up in each other, the quiet settling around us.
“I’ll drive you home in the morning,” I say, my voice a low rumble.
She hums in response, already half asleep.
I glance over at the door, where I know Shadow’s curled up on the couch. I’ll check on him later. Right now, I’ve got Jade in my arms, and that’s all that matters.
