Chapter Twenty-Nine
Jade
I wake up slowly, trying not to move. The morning light filters in through the curtains, casting a warm glow over the room. I can’t help but notice how peaceful Nate looks, like a damn Greek god sprawled out on the bed. But then I remember the night before and that warmth quickly turns to a chill.
I don’t want to wake him, but there’s this weight pressing down on me. The kind that makes my stomach twist in knots. I shift slightly, trying to figure out how to get up without disturbing him, and that’s when I feel it—his morning wood pressing against my stomach. Oh, fuck. That’s definitely not helping my nerves.
He groans, shifting slightly, his voice thick with sleep.
Crap, I’ve woken him up. I turn to look at him, forcing a smile that feels more like a grimace. “Hey.”
“Hey,” he replies, voice still raspy. “What time is it?”
“Don’t know,” I say, trying to keep it light. “I was just trying not to wake you.”
He cracks one eye open, peering at me. “You should know by now that that’s impossible.”
“I guess,” I mutter, glancing down at the sheets, wishing I could vanish into them. “I’m scared, Nate.”
He sits up, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. “Scared of what?”
“Scared about…you know, everything,” I say, unable to meet his gaze. “What if I’m actually pregnant?”
He leans back against the headboard and I can see the wheels turning in his head. “Look, this was the exact way I felt when I got the news about Sadie,” he says, his voice steady. “She turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me. If you really are pregnant and decide to keep it, I’ll be there every step of the way.”
“But what about my career? I’m just getting my footing as a PT and this could mess with everything,” I say, panic creeping in again.
“Hey,” he says, his tone firm yet soft. “Let’s get to the hospital first. We’ll deal with everything else after that. One step at a time.”
“Okay,” I reply, taking a deep breath. “Okay.”
He swings his legs over the side of the bed and stretches. I’m still sitting there, trying to gather my thoughts, but he’s already up and moving. “C’mon. Let’s get you something to eat.”
I follow him to the kitchen, still a little dazed. He forces me to sit at the table like I’m some kind of delicate flower, but honestly, I feel more like a fucking wreck.
“I’ll make you breakfast,” he says, rummaging through the fridge. “What do you want? Eggs? Pancakes? Cereal?”
“Cereal’s fine,” I say, feeling my stomach churn at the thought of anything heavy.
“Cereal it is,” he replies with a nod, pulling out a box and pouring it into a bowl. I can’t help but smile a little at how domestic this all feels.
He pours milk over it and sets the bowl in front of me. “Eat up.”
I stare at the bowl, my stomach twisting again. “I don’t know if I can.”
“Try,” he says, leaning against the counter with arms crossed, giving me that stubborn look I’ve come to expect from him.
I pick up the spoon and take a small bite. It’s not bad. “This is okay,” I say, forcing down another bite.
“See? Not so hard,” he teases, but I can see the concern in his eyes.
I manage to eat a few more bites before I feel it—the nausea creeping back. “I don’t think I can keep this down,” I say, my voice shaky.
“Okay, okay,” he says quickly, taking the bowl away. “Let’s try something else. How about a little milk?”
He pours me a small glass and hands it to me. I sip it slowly, grateful for his patience.
“I’ll make you toast or something,” he says, heading back to the counter.
“Do you always take care of people like this?” I ask, trying to lighten the mood.
“Only the ones I kind of knock up,” he replies, glancing back at me with a smirk.
“Yeah, well, it’s not like I planned this.”
“None of us did,” he says, shrugging. “Life just kinda…happens sometimes.”
I nod, lost in thought. “What if I don’t want to keep it?”
“Then we’ll deal with that,” he says, his voice firm. “It’s your choice, Jade. No one’s gonna pressure you.”
I look down at my hands, biting my lip. “What if Axel and Carter freak out? They’ll want to know what’s going on.”
“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves,” he says, bringing me a piece of toast. “Focus on today. Get to the clinic, see the doctor and then we can figure out what to say.”
I take the toast from him, my hand brushing against his. “Thanks,” I say softly.
“Always,” he replies, leaning against the counter.
I munch on the toast, trying to distract myself from the chaos swirling in my mind. It’s surprisingly easy to fall into a rhythm with him here, even in the middle of all this uncertainty.
“You know,” I say, looking up at him, “you make a hell of a nurse. I might keep you around just for that.”
He chuckles, shaking his head. “Yeah, well, it’s a package deal. You get cared for, and you get me—messy hair and all.”
“Messy hair and all, huh?” I tease, smirking at him. “That’s not so bad.”
He rolls his eyes but there’s a smile creeping over his face. “Don’t get used to it.”
I finish the toast and lean back in the chair, feeling a little steadier. “So what’s the plan, coach?”
“First, we call the clinic. After that, we’ll figure out the rest,” he says, his expression serious again. “No more freaking out, okay?”
“Okay,” I nod, feeling slightly reassured. “Thanks for being here. Seriously.”
“Always,” he repeats, his gaze unwavering.
I take a deep breath, trying to push down the anxiety bubbling in my chest. “Let me see if my doctor has time to see me. If not, I guess Planned Parenthood or someplace like that can at least confirm what my home tests said.”
“Yup. Are you still nervous?” He studies me, those piercing eyes dissecting every twitch of my body.
“A little,” I admit, biting my lip.
He leans closer, a wicked grin spreading across his face. “You know, maybe an orgasm would help?”
I nod way too eagerly, and I can’t help but laugh a little at my own desperation. “Sure, why not? It’s not like you can make me any more pregnant, right?”
His laughter rumbles deep in his chest and before I know it, he’s got my face cupped in his hands, leaning in close. “Let’s test that theory, shall we?”
And then he kisses me. Holy hell. His lips are warm and firm against mine, and I moan into him, feeling that familiar spark ignite deep in my belly. Everything else fades away—the anxiety, the uncertainty, the looming doctor’s visit. It’s just us, tangled up in each other.
“Damn,” I breathe, pulling back just a fraction. “You know how to distract a girl.”
He chuckles, that low, sexy sound that makes my insides twist. “It’s a gift. But wait, I should probably grab something first.”
I frown, confused. “Something? Like what?”
“Protection,” he replies, moving toward the nightstand.
“Really? You think that’s necessary?” I shoot back, raising an eyebrow.
“Yeah, babe, I do. Just in case,” he says, grabbing a condom and flashing me a cheeky smile. “Can’t be too careful.”
I roll my eyes but can’t help the grin that spreads across my face. “Okay, fine. But you’re seriously going to ruin the moment.”
He shrugs, a playful glint in his eyes. “Better safe than sorry, right?”
“Yeah, yeah, Mr. Responsible,” I tease, shaking my head.
He approaches me again, sliding his hands around my waist. “You know you want this,” he murmurs, leaning in to kiss me again, his breath hot against my lips.
And hell yes, I do.
I pull him closer, our bodies fitting together like we were made for this moment. His hands roam down to my hips, pulling me against him and I can feel the heat radiating off him. “Let’s make this quick,” I whisper, smirking. “Doctor’s calling.”
He chuckles against my mouth, his fingers finding their way beneath my shirt, and I gasp at the electric sensation. “Who knew a doctor’s visit could turn into a quickie?”
“Only when you’re involved,” I quip back, a little breathless as he trails kisses down my neck.
“Let’s make this memorable,” he says, pulling back just long enough to grab the condom, and I can’t help but admire the way he moves. He’s all confidence and strength, and it’s sexy as hell.
He rolls it on in one smooth motion, and I watch, entranced. “Okay, now I’m ready,” he says, eyes darkening with desire.
“Good,” I reply, my heart racing again, but this time it’s for a different reason. “Let’s do this.”
Nate grins, and in an instant, he’s lifted me off the ground, my legs wrapping around him as he presses me against the wall. “You really are the most distracting woman,” he mutters, kissing me fiercely.
“Yeah, well, it takes one to know one,” I tease, and he responds by deepening the kiss, his hands gripping my ass, holding me firmly against him.
I can’t help but moan again, feeling that familiar pull deep inside me. He’s like a drug I can’t resist, and I’m all in. “Nate,” I gasp, my fingers tangling in his hair. “Don’t stop.”
“Never,” he breathes, his lips trailing down my neck. He’s taking his sweet time, and it’s driving me absolutely wild.
“Seriously, what’s taking so long?” I tease, but my voice comes out breathy and needy.
“Just enjoying you,” he says, looking up at me with that intense gaze. “You’re everything I didn’t know I needed.”
“Wow, now you’re getting all sentimental on me,” I say, laughing lightly, but my heart swells at his words.
“Shut up,” he mutters, but there’s a smile playing on his lips. “Just let me worship you for a minute.”
I bite my lip, feeling that warmth flood through me again. “Fine, but make it good.”
He dives back in, kissing me hungrily, and I can’t help but respond in kind. We’re a mess of limbs and urgency, and every kiss ignites more heat between us.
“Damn, Jade, you’re incredible,” he says, pulling back for a breath, but I can see the lust clouding his eyes.
I gasp as he kisses me deeply, the urgency palpable, and all I can think is how right this feels, even amidst the chaos of our lives.
“Let’s make this quick,” I whisper, my breath mingling with his. “Before I start thinking about the doctor again.”
“Agreed,” he says, and there’s a wild glint in his eye.
In that moment, nothing else matters. Just us. Just this.
With every kiss, every touch, I lose myself in him a little more. He’s everything I didn’t know I wanted, and I can’t get enough.
He dives back in, and everything else fades away again. We’re lost in our own world, a tangle of limbs and soft whispers, and for a brief moment, I forget about the doctor, the pregnancy, all of it.
The anxiety, the uncertainty, it all melts away under his touch.
“Damn,” I mutter, feeling the heat pooling in my belly.
“I know,” he replies, his lips brushing against mine. “Just trust me.”
“I do,” I say softly, and it’s true.
With one last kiss, he positions himself, and I can barely contain the whimper that escapes my lips. “Let’s go,” he whispers, and I nod, feeling that familiar rush of anticipation.
As he moves inside me, I gasp, the sensation overwhelming, and I can’t help but arch my back, urging him on. “Fuck, yes.”
“Just like that,” he murmurs, his voice low and gravelly.
It’s wild and raw, and I’m completely lost in him, caught in a wave of pleasure that’s pulling me under. “Harder,” I gasp, gripping his shoulders.
He doesn’t need to be told twice, and I feel myself spiraling as he moves with an intensity that leaves me breathless.
He picks up the pace, and I feel that tension building inside me, like a coiled spring ready to snap. “Nate, I’m…”
“Let go,” he urges, his voice thick with desire.
I do, and the orgasm hits me like a freight train, crashing over me in waves of pure ecstasy. “Oh, my God!” I cry out, my nails digging into his skin.
“Fuck, Jade!” he groans, his own release following closely behind.
We ride the pleasure out together, lost in the moment, and when it finally subsides, I lean against him, breathing hard.
“Wow,” I whisper, a little dazed.
“Wow, indeed,” he replies, his forehead resting against mine.
We’re both panting, the reality of what just happened slowly sinking in. “Well, that was unexpected,” I say, a shaky laugh escaping my lips.
“Unexpected, but not unwelcome,” he says, a grin spreading across his face.
“True,” I reply, feeling that warmth flood through me again, but this time it’s mixed with a hint of uncertainty.
“Okay, now we really need to get to the doctor,” he says.
