Chapter Thirty-Nine

Carter

We pull up to Nate’s house and I can’t shake the tension buzzing in the air. Jade’s been through a lot, and now with all this paparazzi bullshit, I just want to keep her safe.

“Is there a way to handle this shitstorm?” I ask, leaning against the car, arms crossed.

Nate runs a hand through his hair, the weight of his responsibilities clear on his face. “I don’t even know who’s leaking the information. I took Jade for that ultrasound and a nurse recognized me. Maybe that’s the source?”

“Great,” I mutter. “Just fucking great. This is exactly what we need right now.”

Axel steps forward, his eyes narrowing. “What if we work together and try to kill the story before it blows up?”

“How?” I ask.

“We can try and involve our lawyers,” Nate says. “Okay, maybe not yours Axel, seeing as you’re fucking his sister.”

Jade looks at us, and I see something different in her eyes. “Actually, I’m okay with everyone knowing,” she says, her voice steady.

“What? Are you sure about that?” I ask, eyebrows shooting up.

“Yes. I care about all of you. We are planning on raising our kids together. This was going to come out sooner rather than later so…” Jade says softly.

“Is there any way this affects any of our careers? Carter just joined the team,” Axel says running a hand through his hair. I’m touched that even in the middle of this crisis, he’s still thinking of me.

I don’t think anyone in the Blackhawks would have ever had my back the way that these guys have.

Nate shakes his head, looking fierce. “I’ve been bringing home trophies for this team over and over. I’ll handle the fallout.”

Jade smiles softly, and it makes my chest warm. “Thank you for the baby shower. But can I just celebrate tonight?”

“Of course, babe ,” I tell her.

“Get the remote so we can find one of her documentaries,” Nate tells Axel. “I’ll make us snacks.”

“Actually, I have another idea,” Jade says in a voice so sultry it travels straight to my groin.

The tension in the room shifts, and I feel my throat go dry. Jade stands, her posture confident as she begins to undress right there in the kitchen. I can’t help but stare, heat pooling in my gut.

“Shit,” Axel breathes, and I’m pretty sure he’s thinking what I’m thinking.

“Damn, Jade,” I mutter, watching her move. She’s beautiful and bold, and it’s driving me wild.

“Come on, you two. Undress,” she says, kneeling on the floor, and my breath hitches.

“Jade,” Nate starts, but she silences him with a look that says she knows exactly what she wants.

We all shed our clothes, the air electric with anticipation. Jade’s eyes are bright, and the way she moves has us all entranced. She doesn’t waste any time, leaning in to take me in her mouth.

“Fuck,” I groan, trying to hold back. But it’s too damn hard when she looks up at me like that.

Nate grips her waist, guiding her as we take turns, our hands roaming over her skin. “You’re so fucking wet,” he says, his voice low and rough, “We don’t even need lube.”

“Damn right,” Axel adds, his grin wicked as he leans closer.

I watch Jade, her eyes half-closed, lost in pleasure as we give her what she needs. She’s ours, and this is just a taste of what we’ve been craving.

As I carry her to the bedroom, it feels like we’re stepping into a new world—a place where we can finally celebrate the life we’re building together. The room is filled with laughter and gasps, every sound a promise of what’s to come.

Axel stands, cock hard and dripping as he takes off his piercings, looking serious.

“What are you doing babe?” Jade asks, moaning as Nate finger fucks her.

“I don’t want to hurt you,” Axel replies.

“Good call,” I agree, my heart racing.

Then we take our turns, filling her up, rocking her, holding her down.

“Fuck, Jade,” I murmur, feeling her warmth surround me. “You’re incredible.”

She laughs, a sound that makes everything else fade away. It’s just us—lost in this moment, in each other.

The next day starts like any other, but the moment I step outside, my phone buzzes with notifications. I check my screen and it’s a fucking tsunami of messages and alerts.

brEAKING NEWS: Chicago Icebreakers Coach Nate Pregnant with Mistress/ Team Physical Therapist Jade—The Shocking Love Affair.

Are you kidding me? My stomach drops as I swipe through the headlines. Photos of Jade and Nate, as well as pictures of her with the team scroll by. I don’t want to look at this shit, but I can’t tear my eyes away.

“Fuck! This is insane!” I shout, pacing in the driveway.

Axel steps out of the house, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. “What’s going on, man?”

I shove my phone in his face. “Look at this crap! They’re saying Jade is Nate’s mistress and that she’s pregnant!”

He squints at the screen, the realization dawning on him. “Shit. This is bad.”

“Bad? It’s a fucking disaster!” I swipe through more articles. “And it gets worse. Everyone thinks she’s just some kind of puck bunny.”

Axel’s jaw tightens. “We’ve gotta do something. We can’t let them paint her like that.”

“Yeah, well, what the hell do we do?” I run my fingers through my hair, pacing back and forth. “I’m not about to let anyone tear her apart.”

“Dude, calm down. We’ll figure it out,” Axel says, trying to keep me grounded.

I can’t think straight. “I need to call my mom.”

“Now? Really?” Axel raises an eyebrow.

“Yeah, I gotta tell her. She needs to know. Shit, if this is all over the news then it is a matter of time before everything else is reported…”

I pull out my phone and dial my mom. The moment she picks up, I can hear her upbeat tone. “Carter, how are you?”

“Mom, listen. I’m not great,” I start, pacing again. “I’ve got some news.”

“What is it, honey?”

I swallow hard. “You’re gonna see something crazy on TV or online. Just…don’t freak out, okay?”

“Why? What’s going on?”

“Jade’s pregnant.”

“Oh my goodness!” she exclaims in Slovakian, her voice full of surprise. “Ty si s ňou v vz?ahu?”

She’s asking if I’m in a relationship with Jade.

“Yeah, it’s complicated,” I reply, “but I love her. I’m in a relationship with Jade. But she is also with Nate, and Axel. We’re together.”

There’s a pause, and I can almost hear the gears turning in her head. “To je ?ialené!

I smile a little at her stating that this is crazy.

“Tell me about it,” I say, feeling a mix of anger and frustration. “The media is making it look like Jade’s some kind of villain. She’s not. She’s amazing.”

“Carter, this is important. You have to stand by her. You can’t let them tear her apart,” my mom says, her tone firm.

“I know! But how the hell do I protect her from this? The headlines are everywhere!”

“Ty si mu?. You fight for what you love.”

“I’ll fight, Mom. I promise. But what do I tell them when they come looking for a statement? They’ll twist everything.”

“You’re a man. Tell them the truth. Love is complicated, but it’s real. You need to show them that you’re all in this together.”

“Right. Just tell the world we’re in a polyamorous relationship?” I snort. “Yeah, that’ll go over well.”

“Jade deserves that, Carter. Don’t let them label her. Don’t let them tear you apart.”

I breathe in deep, taking her words to heart. “I know. I’m just…”

“I believe in you. Ty to zober si.”

“Thanks, Mom,” I say, feeling a little lighter.

“You know baby,” she says after a pause, “This is the first time you have called me to tell me about anything other than hockey.”

“It is?”

“Yeah. Now you and those boys better fix this. I need to meet my grandbaby soon.”

“Grandbabies,” I tell her.

“What?” I can hear the excitement in her voice as she calls out for my father. “Is it twins?”

“Yes Ma!”

“Oh, thank the heavens. I never thought I would see the day. Now go on Novak. Go get your girl and keep her and my grandbabies safe.”

We hang up, and I turn to Axel, who’s been listening. “Well?” he prompts.

“I gotta talk to Jade. She needs to know we’re fighting for her,” I say, resolve filling my gut.

“Good call. Let’s go.”

We head inside, and I find Jade in the living room, her eyes glued to the TV. The news is blaring and it’s all about her and Nate.

“Jade,” I say, stepping closer. “You okay?”

She doesn’t look at me, her face pale. “No. This is horrible. They’re saying things about me…”

“Fuck what they’re saying,” I say, my voice steady. “You’re not a villain. You’re the most incredible person I know.”

She turns to me, her eyes glistening. “But I’m not just dating Nate. I’m with you too, Carter. And Axel. How can I explain that? They are already calling me a slut and thinking I fucked my way into this job. What are they going to do when it comes down to this?”

“Just tell them the truth. Tell them you’re in love with all of us. We’re in this together.”

“Together,” she repeats, her voice shaky.

“Yeah. And we’re gonna fight this shit together,” I assure her.

“Okay,” she breathes, taking my hand. “I trust you.”

“Damn right,” I reply, squeezing her hand. “We’ll get through this.”

As we stand there, I can feel the weight of the world lifting. It’s not gonna be easy, but we’re not backing down. Not now, not ever.

“Let’s face it,” I say, looking around the room at Axel and Nate. “We’re a fucking family now, and we’ll deal with whatever comes our way.”

Jade nods, determination shining in her eyes. “Yeah. Let’s do this.”

“Actually, baby, if you don’t mind, can I be the one to deal with this?” Nate says calmly.
