CHAPTER NINETEEN

JAX

“You’re telling me, she’s just mixed up into it because her mom got hooked on the blow?” I ask dryly into my phone.

“Yeah, man,” Leon sighs. “Her mom got on the drugs, gobbled up too much that she couldn’t afford, and started paying with her body. Kendra had two options. One, a bullet to the head. Two, crimes that are considered his chores.”

That’s Brutus fucking Tuffin for you.

Wiping the beads of sweat from my forehead, I ask, “Did she cough up anything from the inside? Where his house might be or what the fuck is going on in there?”

“She doesn’t go there, supposedly. Part of the deal was she had to lose all contact with her mom. But she knows he has dogs in the back, just doesn’t know where the fights are or what shady shit he has going on in there. All her orders are through Travis and the punk shows up to her job to delegate.”

I roughly rub in between my brows, feeling the headache already coming on. “Thanks, man.”

Tossing my phone down to the mats, I let out a puff of aggravated air and get back into orthodox stance. Setting my sights on the black heavy bag hanging in front of me, I let out the steam that’s boiling over. The last hook sends the chain flying out of the ceiling, the bag smashing harshly onto the mats—again.

Third time since falling under the siren’s trance.

It’s partially pent-up aggression. It’s mostly pent-up fucking libido.

I was trained to be a fighter, a young samurai as my father would say, and I’ve never put heavy bags through the ringer like this.

Kissing Tala is celestial. It makes Heaven cry and Hell spit fire. The seamless fit of our lips has been playing in my mind like a broken record. It races my heart and flashes to her criminal body, how pretty her rosy pussy is, how fucking sweet it tastes, God, and how tight it was around one finger.

I can’t get the vixen out of my head. I haven’t been able to since September first. And now that I’ve finally gotten a dose—I’m hooked. Addicted. An absolute fiend for this creature.

My phone vibrates on the mat, popping up Maverick’s caller ID. I crouch down to it, answering the call and holding the speaker to my ear.

“How much to convince you to fight tomorrow night?”

I huff and stand my ass up. “Get to the point, Maverick.”

He laughs. “Ray over atNight Cagementioned a person of interest placing a bet on DrewLoughty, known as theHeadsplitter. I pulled some strings to get you in the ring with him… Reaper.”

I haven’t done underground fighting since I left Savannah. It paid for my shitty apartment and gave me extra cash to hunt down Brutus.

“I’m assuming this person of interest is Pyro,” I grumble, and stalk out of my studio room.

“On the money,” he snaps his fingers.

I turn into my office, aiming for my desk to check in on Tala. “And how are you expecting me to get information or kill the fucker if I’m in the cage?”

“I’m not,” he counters. “That’s my job. I’ll chat him up. Yours is to provide entertainment long enough without ripping the guy’s head off for me to do so. Winner takes all and I’ll double it.”

I sit down and pull up Tala’s feeds, roughly cracking my neck both ways. “I didn’t take the payment for Liam and I’m not taking it now. If it’s regarding Tala or her family, we’re square. Just text me a time.” I hang up, replenishing my lungs with the oxygen she provides me.

I don’t like the strange delivery man at her door. It sizzles my nerves and ripples my lip. “Come on, boy. We have a little wolf to see.”
