“It’s time.”

Orpheus and Talon swung their heads my way as they tended to Orpheus’ garden on his balcony together.

Talon’s eyes widened. “You mean—”

“It’s time to tell Alena about the true purpose of Obsidian beyond just giving students an outlet to party and let their magic and abilities run rampant every now and then behind the faculty’s back.”

“There’s no undoing this once the words are spoken,” Orpheus warned.

“What if it fucks up everything in a majorly shit-tastic way?” Talon worried in his usual overdramatic fashion of approaching pretty much everything.

“What if it doesn’t?” I took a sip from my glass of vodka and blood as I leaned against the balcony door. “It could very well bring us closer, bring her closer to us.”

“We’re already getting close,” Tal pointed out. “And it’s been really great since the snow picnic. We’ve hung out between classes, at night, watching movies, flying together, doing magic and fucking about while she does her magical creations, eating together every time our schedules intersect for lunch and dinner. We’ve spent every day together for the last couple of weeks, all four of us.”

“I get it. You don’t want anything to screw that up.”

“I don’t, X. I really fucking don’t.”

“He’s been the most peaceful I’ve ever seen him over the last two weeks,” Orpheus stated.

“But that’s not why you don’t want to risk telling her.”

“It’s part of the reason. You know how important Tal is to me, how important the both of you are to me.”

I smiled. “As much of an asshole as you can sometimes be, yeah, I do know, brother.”

“So, what’s the other reason?” Tal asked, too hopeful that there was one, that there was an excuse to avoid rocking the boat when it came to Alena.

Orpheus stepped back from his garden completely and looked between both of us. Folding his arms across the chest of his purple long sleeve tee, he said, “She could view the true purpose of Obsidian as underhanded and a violation of what her mother and Exemplar as a whole stands for. The position of power that she’s in, both as a Nephilim and as the daughter of Abigail Rose, is dangerous if she proves to be at odds with what we’re doing, with our plans. Telling her puts the means in her hands to destroy Obsidian. ”

I shook my head, unwilling to believe that would be the case. “She’s been on board with everything so far.”

“Yeah, she was on our side over the shit we told her about, even with her own mom,” Tal said, backing up my stance. It caught me off guard a little, because he predominantly sided with Orpheus on things, on most matters. “She wouldn’t do that to us, anyway, Ore.”

“That remains to be seen. The only way to know is to call her bluff. Unfortunately, to do that, one needs to be prepared to lose everything should that go south.”

“If anything, she’ll want to be a part of Obsidian. You’re just playing devil’s advocate,” I told him.

“Somebody needs to. You two are far too smitten with her to do so. You’re allowing your feelings free reign over fucking everything.”

“And you’re not right there with us?” Tal questioned, tossing him a withering look.

“The difference is, I’m also exercising rationality and caution.”

I downed the rest of my drink, put it down on the railing, then pushed off the door. “Then employ that rationality and caution to another scenario. That being, what will happen if we don’t tell her?”

Before he could answer, Tal cut in, “Hold up, I wasn’t on board with jeopardizing things by telling her, I just didn’t agree with Ore that her knowing could be a danger to what we’re doing. I’m just really worried she’s gonna freak that we never told her this earlier before we all got so close.”

“Things can’t go any further with Alena until we let her in on this. It’s a big part of our lives, part of our raison d'être. Without telling her about this, we’re cutting a massive aspect of ourselves off from her, and it’s not fair,” I told them. When Talon went to argue his case more, I put it in terms that he’d understand best. “We can’t keep her.”

The look on his face as soon as my words were out there was heartbreaking.

I knew he’d taken to Alena strongly and he’d really grown fond of her, but this reaction from him was far beyond what I’d interpreted from him so far. He couldn’t imagine being without her, couldn’t imagine us being without her. She’d become an integral part of his life.

That was true for all of us without a doubt.

But seeing it reflected back at me drove it home in both a brutal and beautiful definitive way.

“I hear you,” he admitted. “I get it, X. You’re right, it’s just—”

“We know, brother. We know. But it’ll be fine. I know it. I feel it.”

“Let’s see to it,” Orpheus said.

I cocked an eyebrow. “Yeah?”

“Yes. It’s the ultimate test of where she stands, of her loyalty to us too.”

“A test? That’s not what I meant,” I told him.

“Yeah, that sounds way too manipulative, Ore.” He gave him a knowing look. “Like you backsliding into your assholish ways.”

“That’s not how I intended it to come across. My apologies.”

Sure it wasn’t. Damnation.

“The point is, it’s a go to tell her.”

Before we could wrap it up completely, a knock sounded through his suite at the door.

A flare of Orpheus’ magic caught my eye before he reported, “It’s Alena.”

I frowned. “I thought this was our off night with her, that she had a ton of studying to do?”

“It is.”

A sheepish look played on Tal’s face.

“What did you do?” I asked.

“Baby bird?”

“I didn’t want her to go hungry or forget to eat, so I had the cafeteria deliver some dinner to her.”

“Now who’s the romantic one?” I said. “Impressive, firebird.”

He beamed out at me. “Thanks.”

Orpheus ruffled his hair as he passed him by. “Let’s not keep our lovely Alena waiting.”

We followed him as he led the way to the door.

With a wave of his hand, he brought down his ward, and then he was there opening the door, Talon and I flanking him on either side.

“Wow,” Alena breathed at the sight of all three of us suddenly right there in her space.

She was dressed in workout clothes, a pair of pink floral print bootcut yoga pants with a matching baby-pink sports bra, and her hair was pulled into a high ponytail.

“Going for a run?” I asked her.

“What about studying?” Orpheus asked, always intense when it came to her wielding her magic and learning as much as she could, whenever she could.

“Actually, that’s why I’m here.” She beamed at Talon. “And thank you for dinner. It was amazing, and so sweet of you to think of it.”

“My pleasure, firecracker,” he said, smiling from ear-to-ear at her acknowledgement of his thoughtful gesture.

She looked at Orpheus. “Rumor has it that you’re an expert swordsman?”

“You got all that from the memory I showed you and my very brief display of skill during the class you observed?”

“And word around Electi Academy. I just enrolled in the Weaponry and Warfare class, and Professor Marlowe suggested I get in some practice before the first class, because all the students have experience under their belts, like you, and it’s gonna be the focus of the next couple of weeks.”

“Ah, well, you came to the right being, little angel.” He ran his gaze over her. “Judging by your attire, you want to do this now, yes?”

“If it’s okay. I know you guys were hanging out tonight having a boys’ night, and it’s barely started yet, so I get if—”

“We were only doing that because you were busy,” I told her.

Orpheus snapped his fingers and in the next moment he had a broadsword grasped in either hand.

He tossed one to Alena and she caught it easily.

“Hmm, good start.”

“Hey, get me one too. X as well. We’ll all join in.” He told Alena, “I have to warn you, I’m shit-tastic at it, pretty fucking crap.”

“Then we’ll have that in common,” she said, chuckling. Then she looked to me. “What about you?”

“He’s got some impressive talent,” Orpheus answered for me. “Just not as much as me.”

“Obviously,” Alena jested.

I laughed. “Obviously.” I shook my head at Ore. “Arrogant shit.”

“Uh uh… confidence, brother. Confidence.”

“Sure, we’ll call it that.”

Then he produced two more blades with his magic, handing one each to Tal and me.

“Let’s do this!” Tal cried excitedly. I ducked as he tried to twirl his blade around and it only missed swiping me by a hair.

“Jeez, this is gonna be a nightmare,” I groused.

Orpheus took the sword back from him.

“Hey!” Tal cried.

“You get this back once you’ve had a cool down period as we walk to the Training Hall. Discipline is key to sword fighting, baby bird.”

Alena and I chuckled as we all made our way out of Orpheus’ chambers, with Tal pouting and Orpheus ruffling his hair to take the edge off.

“You need a better grip,” Orpheus told Alena as they stood opposite one another, each brandishing their swords. “Like I showed you, remember?” He proceeded to demonstrate the correct hand positioning with her right hand at the top of the grip and the other at the bottom. “I’ll be able to knock your sword out of your hand with just a slight tap otherwise. It’ll also compromise your accuracy once we start getting into various moves.”

She listened carefully and followed his instructions to a T. “How’s this?”

“Perfect. Now, take his stance,” he told her, settling his left foot ahead of his right and putting his body at a forty-five-degree angle. “We call it the ready position.”

She did it, then waited patiently and with excitement gleaming in her eyes, for his next set of instructions.

“We’re going to go over different angles of attack. We’ll start with straight down from the top.”

And so it continued, him teaching her, while Talon and I messed around in the background, him taking on the role of a medieval knight and me apparently Merlin. Kind of mixing up his time periods there, but it was making him happy, so I let it be.

Besides, it was fun. Something we could all do with more of.

They clashed, crossing swords viciously, each pushing against the other to win out.

I saw Orpheus’ eyes flash his telltale purple, about to call on his magic.

But then the glow snuffed out and he stopped himself, surprising me that he wanted to play fair.

Nah, he didn’t. That wasn’t him.

But he was doing it for Alena.

“Damn, you’re strong, baby,” Tal called over, thankfully resting his sword down by his side and giving me a bit of a reprieve as he was taken with watching them battle.

“Half angel,” she answered simply, trying to keep her concentration on Orpheus.

But then he abruptly jumped back and tossed his sword across the room.

In the next moment, he grabbed the wrist of her sword-wielding hand, then used the hold to jerk her into him. “You’re so fucking alluring when you face off with me, little angel.”

Her eyes heated just like his, and then she dropped her sword and was tugging at his hair and crushing their mouths together.

A throaty growl came from Talon as we watched the two of them, the sexual tension in the room reaching a devastating apex.

It wouldn’t be denied.

“That’s it,” I snarled, dropping my sword too and Talon doing the same as we then stalked over to them together.

When we reached them, Orpheus broke the kiss, then grasped the back of Tal’s head and shoved his mouth to Alena’s. She grinned, liking it, then the two of them made out, Tal bringing his usual lot of tongue into play and getting all carnal with it. He rolled his hips, getting caught up quickly—again, his usual way.

Alena eased her mouth from his to giggle, “Wow, you’re really going for it right off the bat, huh?”

“Shit, yeah, I am. Watching you kick Ore’s ass like that… damn, it was some hot shit. You’re so fucking hot, firecracker. So fierce, so brave, so fucking amazing. The more time I spend with you, the harder it’s getting to hold back how much I want you.” He gestured at me and Orpheus. “How much we all want you together.”

She stared at us for a few moments, need and anticipation warring with apprehension and likely the overwhelming nature of it.

And then her eyes hooded and a sly little smile played on her lips. “I want you all too.”

In the next second, she had us all stunned as she just shucked off her workout pants, exposing her panties so she was just standing before us in them and her sports bra. And then she slammed her hands into Talon’s chest, her supernatural strength sending his back jarring against the wall a few feet away, cracking it a little.

She was there in his space with a few quick strides, fisting his tight tank and using the hold to slam his mouth back to hers.

As they kissed—almost violently, really—she rolled her hips roughly, rubbing her little pink panties against his leather-clad cock.

“Fuck,” Orpheus uttered, ripping his shirt over his head and tossing it absently across the room.

I was right there with him, down to my boxers in a blink with a burst of vampire speed.

Orpheus was at Tal’s side then and jerking open his tight pants, and pulling his rock-hard cock out.

I stepped behind Alena and lifted the fabric of her panties, stretching it enough wherein Ore slid Tal’s cock inside.

“Ungh… shit,” Tal breathed as his shaft touched her wet pussy with no barrier.

We watched as he ground his hips, his eyes rolling back in his head as his cock slid in and out of her panties.

“Mmm,” Alena moaned, sinking back against me.

With a flicker of his purple power, Orpheus had Talon completely stripped naked, his clothes strewn over the floor by his shirt.

He moved behind Tal, reaching around and rolling and pinching his nipples with one hand, while the other disappeared between his ass cheeks.

In the next second, Tal was jolting then breaking his kiss with Alena, even stopping his sliding in and out of her panties.

“Ore… shit,” he rasped.

“Good boy taking three of my fingers so well.” He angled Tal so we could see his fingers thrusting then curling deep in Talon’s ass.

The sight was erotic as fuck and it had my cock jerking against Alena.

She whimpered in need and pushed her ass against me.

Noticing, Orpheus told me, “Give her the same treatment. Take her hot little ass, X.”

Damnation. Even the suggestion of it had my balls drawing tight.

Especially considering it would be my first time going there.

He urged me on by stripping her naked with his magic, then making Tal lean forward and lap wildly at her breasts.

She lost it, jumping at Tal who somehow caught her and grasped her hips a second before she sank down onto his cock.

She tossed a coy look over her shoulder at me, then even spread her ass open with one hand in a delicious offering while wrapping her other around Talon’s neck as she started to ride him nice and slow, the sensuality of it turning me the fuck on. She knew that got to me like nothing else.

Orpheus pulled his fingers from Tal’s ass, extricated himself, then cleaned the digits with his magic before coming to me and holding my gaze as he slid one into Alena’s tight little hole.

She grunted and her rhythm faltered on Tal’s cock, and she looked over her shoulder at Orpheus. “How do you like it raw, little angel? Hurts so good, hmm?”

“Oh fuck,” she cried, bucking on Tal’s cock as Orpheus added a second finger and started twisting them.

“See?” he told me. “She likes it rough and dirty. Don’t think you need to hold back.” He stroked her hair. “You want it all, don’t you, Alena?”

She nodded frantically. “Shit, yes. Don’t stop.”

Ore smirked maliciously. “ I’m going to,” he said as he roughly pulled his fingers free making her jolt and whimper with unfulfilled need. He stared at me. “But X won’t,” he challenged.

He leaned in and licked my throat, sending pulses of desire through me as he called to the vampire. He kept trailing his tongue over my skin as he jerked down my boxers.

“Mmm… fuck, I groaned as he followed the path by grazing his teeth over my skin, exerting enough pressure to make it red-raw. The slight pain combined with the eroticism and the sight of Tal fucking up into Alena while her needy ass remained empty and desperate for me… it had the demon breaching the surface and my fangs dropping.

I snarled at him and his eyes lit up.

Of course he wouldn’t react normally with fear and then backing up to a vampire unleashed.

In fact, he grasped my shaft and grinned, making me snarl all the more ferociously when he used his magic to lube up my cock, the warm slickness eliciting sparks of pleasure.

I turned from him and dug my claws into Alena’s hip from behind.

“Ah!” she cried out in a mix of pain and pleasure. “Yes! More!”

More was exactly what I gave her as I angled my cock with my free hand then sank into her ass.

I growled and snarled as her tight hole squeezed my cock, the pressure out of this world, bliss inundating me.

“Xavier… fuck,” she cried as I buried myself balls deep. “Move, please. Fuck me.”

“Mmm, yes,” Orpheus groaned, fisting her hair and yanking her head around painfully to lock eyes with her. “That’s right, our dirty little angel, beg him to fuck that desperate ass.” He looked out at me, his devilish smirk out in full force. “Don’t hold back. She can take it. She needs it this way from us.” He stroked her cheek with a deceptive gentleness. “Don’t you, Alena?”

“Yes… please… more!”

That was it!

I pulled out right to the crown, then slammed back inside right to the hilt.

She screamed and started fucking herself harder on Tal who was gritting his teeth against the sensation of my cock filling her too, trying to hold back his release.

“Shit, X. Alena… ungh.”

He buried his face in Alena’s breasts as he moved with me, alternating our thrusts and working in vicious concert to make her scream and shudder for us.

In my mind’s eye through the overwhelming nature of it all and the rapidly building pleasure, I caught sight of Ore unfurling his wings.

And then he was there hovering off the ground, one hand freeing his cock from his jeans and moving right to Alena’s mouth, flying at her head level.

He slapped it against her cheek and she turned without hesitation and opened her glorious mouth wide.

He didn’t hesitate and drove his cock right down her throat.

As she gagged, he didn’t give her a moment to adjust and instead held her by her hair and fucked her face like a madman… just like the way Tal and I were fucking her… mercilessly and with absolutely no reprieve.

Just the way she’d begged for it.

I’d never experienced anything like it.

She slammed back on Tal and me, trying to meet our wild thrusts, while she choked and spluttered around Ore’s cock, getting off on it, like we all were.

And then she came, clamping down around us and shrieking around Ore’s cock as she shuddered all over.

Tal cursed. “Shit, I’m coming… fucking coming.”

He pulled out but still held her up for us.

He slicked his hand all over her pussy, coating it in his cum and her wetness. And then he wiped it all over her face.

“Motherfuck,” Ore growled.

It set me off too and then I was jackhammering into her ass with my vampire speed.

“Ah! Ah! Oh, fuck!” she screamed pulling from Ore’s cock as she came.

He shoved her back down on his shaft, holding her there choking as she screamed around him and came again and again and again.

He yanked his cock free then came all over her face and breasts.

It was too much and as she clenched down again, another orgasm slamming into her, I roared and shot my hot cum deep inside her ass.

Panting, I pulled out and watched with supreme satisfaction as it leaked from her ass.

She was boneless then and Ore put his wings away and touched down on the ground then conjured a blanket for her. We all wrapped it around her and eased her down onto the floor with us, covering her, stroking her hair and soft skin and soothing her.

We all laid in comfortable silence, basking in what had happened.

Orpheus was the first to speak, telling her, “Next time we explore your primal kink.”

Her eyes shot wide.

“That’s right, I haven’t forgotten for a second about what I saw when I delved into your mind briefly at the Kick Off .” He smirked. “Don’t worry, we’ll make your dirty dreams come true, little angel.”

The mood shifted then as Orpheus rolled onto his side to face Alena.

And then it happened.

He actually did it, telling her, “ Obsidian is more than meets the eye.”

Surprising us, she responded with a lift of her shoulder. “Yeah, I figured.”

“You did?” Talon asked, mirroring how taken aback we all were.

“Yeah, I mean, especially with you involved, Orpheus. It didn’t seem plausible that you’d put so much effort into something just for leisure time and parties. I knew there had to be more to it, a deeper aspect that you were keeping to yourselves, from everyone.”

“Sorry we didn’t tell you the truth sooner,” Talon said, quickly.

“I didn’t expect you to. You needed to trust me. That takes time. On all sides.” She sat up and pulled the conjured blanket up to cover her nakedness as she asked, “So, what is it’s true purpose?”

“To prevent another dire event like the Cataclysm from ever happening again,” I told her.

“To stop that shithead, Constantine, in his tracks,” Tal added with his usual vehemence.

This time it was more than warranted, though.

Constantine Vale had hurt all of us in different ways, his actions had shattered our lives and taken things from us that we could never get back.

“It’s an army,” Alena breathed in awe.

“In essence,” Orpheus said.

“A covert one,” I added.

Orpheus went on, “Facilitating the free expression of Electi Academy students with their magic and their abilities has basically been a training ground. Unbeknownst to anyone, even them. There are so many restrictions here, but with Obsidian, we transcended that and students understand and know their true power.”

“They’ll be able to fight like hell when the time comes,” Tal interjected.

“We can’t afford to rely solely on Exemplar,” Orpheus explained. “Last time that cost us all so much. The three of us made a vow to never allow ourselves to be forced into that position again, to be at the whims of others.”

“So, this is like a second front, should war coming knocking?” Alena asked.

“It is,” I said.

“We need to be ready,” Orpheus added.

“This is incredible,” she uttered, looking between the three of us with that awed and wondrous expression that we loved from her.

“Yeah?” Talon pressed, tentatively.

“Yeah,” she confirmed. “It’s smart and incredibly orchestrated too. We need to be able to stand against a threat, should it come our way. And here at the Academy, I’ve realized from my time here that its goal is to produce productive members of supernatural society, but mostly to ensure we’re controlled and that our abilities don’t pose a problem once we leave here.” She looked to Orpheus. “The Magic in Combat and Weaponry and Warfare classes are just geared toward appeasing the more advanced students?”

“They are, yes. Very astute, little angel. There’s a cap on the learning and the syllabus. A stifling cap, actually. What I brought to the table against Marlowe was frowned upon. You saw the reactions for yourself—shock and disbelief.”

“That was a risk for you.”

“A risk that was worth it to show you that it is possible to pull it back if you touch a little darkness during battle, or if your dark side fuels your actions and reactions.”

She nodded. “Telling me right now is a risk as well. What if I hadn’t reacted well?”

“Then you would’ve likely gone straight to Abigail Rose and fucked all over everything,” Orpheus said.

“Ore!” Talon cried.

I shook my head to myself.

He held up his hand. “She asked.”

I shifted and ran my fingers through her silky hair. “We made the decision to put our trust in you. We want you with us all the way and that couldn’t be the case with this secret between us, with you being unaware of a big part of our lives.”

“Thank you for trusting me,” she said, nuzzling against my hand. “I’m with you. I’m with you all.”

Orpheus and Talon wrapped themselves around us and she sank into it.

Into us.

“We’re with you too,” I spoke. “All the way, Alena.”
