Chapter Eighteen

Tahani

Soulmates

The past two weeks have been nothing short of bliss. Between work and Archer, I’ve barely come up for air. My phone buzzes with a call from my mother, and I know she’s checking in to make sure I’m still alive.

“Mom, I promise I’m okay. I’ll come by after work today,” I assure her.

“Well, if I don’t see you tonight, your father and I will be paying you a visit, or worse, I’ll send the police for a wellness check!”

“Mom, I’ll be there,” I laugh, knowing she’s dead serious.

As I hang up, Archer sneaks up behind me, his arms sliding around my waist, his lips pressing soft kisses along my neck. “Are you sure you’ll be able to make it out of this bedroom today?” he whispers in my ear, his voice low and full of promise.

“We have work, goals to achieve, remember?” I manage to say, though the warmth of his lips makes my knees weak.

“I have goals too,” he murmurs. “And they all involve keeping you right here.”

I turn to face him, smiling. “I’ll come back tonight after I visit my parents. And then, I’m all yours.”

“You better be,” he grins, pulling me into a deep kiss before letting me escape the bedroom.

By the time I’m in the car, I can’t help but open the Boss Be Damned website. I’ve been so wrapped up in Archer that I’ve barely checked in with my BBD sisters.

@Raven88: The crusty witch quit today! She said too many customers were switching over to me. Byeeee ??

@TestyTesty: See? Goodness always wins… well, at least that’s what @BlacqQueen333 would say, lol.

@BlacqQueen333: You took the words right out of my mouth. Goodness always wins.

@99ProblemsButaBossAintOne: If you want to go find and stab her, I still have bail money.

@RobinHood12: You’re too much, but I love it.

@ImBossy26: Glad that issue’s solved. Now you don’t have to find a new job after all.

The usual back-and-forth banter lifts my spirits. Then @RobinHood12 chimes in.

@RobinHood12: Where have you been hiding, @ImBossy26?

@Raven88: Yeah, girl, you’ve been quiet. Too busy with your boss? ??

@TestyTesty: I bet she’s been under him, not just with him, lol.

I laugh out loud at that.

@ImBossy26: My #BILF might be meeting my parents soon.

@99ProblemsButaBossAintOne: So, you’re serious-serious, huh?

@ImBossy26: I’m so serious. We’ve been having a lot of… fun, but now he’s talking marriage and kids. I think I’m ready for it all. He’s my soulmate ??

The messages fly in after that, but one sticks with me.

@BlacqQueen333: It’s a rare and beautiful thing to find a soulmate. Hold on to him tight.

@ImBossy26: I will @BlacqQueen333. If he pulls out a ring, I’m screaming yes!

I close the Boss Be Damned app, a smile playing on my lips as I head toward my office. The air feels electric, like the world is brimming with possibility. As soon as I walk in, though, my heart nearly stops.

Archer is sitting at my desk, completely engrossed in something.

"Hey," I say, my voice laced with surprise. "You beat me here."

He looks up, his eyes locking onto mine with a serious, almost unreadable expression. Slowly, he stands and walks toward me. My pulse quickens as he closes the distance, his presence filling the room like a warm current.

And then—he kneels.

My breath catches in my throat, and my heart starts pounding in my chest. "Archer... what are you doing?"

Without a word, he pulls out a small black velvet box and opens it, revealing a stunning diamond ring that sparkles brighter than anything I’ve ever seen.

“Will you marry me?” His voice is steady, but I see the vulnerability behind his eyes.

My hands fly to my mouth in shock. "Archer, what... what are you doing?"

His lips curve into a teasing smile. "You said on Boss Be Damned that when I pulled out a ring, you'd scream yes. So... here it is." He winks. "Why aren’t you screaming yes?”

I blink, floored by the fact that he’d been following my posts. “How did you…?”

“Your notifications,” he says, smirking. “They pop up at night, and I might have seen a few. So, I started following the site. Very enlightening, by the way. Some really fun conversations, especially the one this morning.” There’s amusement in his eyes, but beneath that, something deeper, more vulnerable.

I laugh, overwhelmed by the moment, tears blurring my vision. “You sneaky man.”

“Tahani,” he says, his voice growing soft again. “I’m serious. Will you marry me? Will you have all my babies?”

The sincerity in his words hits me hard. Tears spill over as I look into his eyes, filled with love and conviction.

"Archer," I whisper, my voice trembling. "We haven’t known each other that long. Are you sure?"

He doesn’t miss a beat. "Tahani, it doesn’t take me long to know when I’ve found a good thing. That’s how I’ve built my entire career, knowing the value of something, or someone, right away. And you’re the most valuable thing I’ve ever come across." His eyes lock onto mine, filled with certainty. "I don’t need years to figure this out. I know."

A flood of emotions washes over me. I want this too, but I need to make sure we’re truly aligned.

“I just… I want to make sure our values really align before I say yes,” I say, wiping away my tears. "So, I have questions."

His brow raises slightly, intrigued. “Questions?”

“Yes,” I nod, suddenly determined. “How many kids do you want?”

“As many as you’ll give me,” he says smoothly, no hesitation.

“What temperature do you like to sleep in?”

“Sixty-eight degrees,” he says, a smile tugging at his lips. “And no, I don’t need blankets.”

I laugh, rolling my eyes. “Pajamas or naked?”

“Naked. Always.”

My cheeks flush, but I press on. “How do you feel about pineapple on pizza?”

He winces. “Absolutely not.”

I smile, asking more random but surprisingly important questions—favorite way to spend a Sunday morning, who handles the bills, how often he wants to travel. Each time, his answers align perfectly with my own.

Finally, I pause, staring into his eyes. He’s answered everything the way I hoped he would. He’s everything I want.

He tilts his head, his gaze narrowing playfully. “You done beating around the bush yet? Or are you going to say yes?”

I laugh, my heart full to bursting. “Yes. Of course, yes.”

His face breaks into a radiant smile as he stands and slides the ring onto my finger. I fling my arms around his neck, laughing and crying at the same time. “Yes,” I say again, louder this time. “I’ll marry you.”

“Good,” he murmurs, pulling me close and kissing me deeply. “When you visit your mom tonight, you’ve got some big news to share.”

“Oh no, you’re coming with me,” I say, my heart racing. “She’ll want to meet you after seeing this ring.”

“I’d love to meet your parents,” he replies, his lips brushing against mine. “It’s time we meet each other’s families.”

My heart swells with joy. “You have no idea how happy I am. I’m so happy to be your future wife, to share a life with you.”

Archer leans in, kissing me softly, deeply. “And I plan to make you the happiest woman alive. Forever.”

The phone’s intercom buzzes. “Mr. Gates, your nine o’clock meeting is here,” Contessa’s voice comes through, cutting through the magic of the moment.

We chuckle, our foreheads pressed together. “Guess we have to work on building our empire,” I murmur.

“I love the way you said our empire,” he says with a wink. “You’re absolutely right, but tonight? It’s just you and me. And soon, it’ll be forever.”
