Moving into the Future
Jenna got up in the morning and checked her crock pots. She then started fixing breakfast because at least half of those here would want some. Once breakfast was done and she ate some, it was hard not to sit and think and wonder if what they had thought was what would happen. If they were right, how much longer would they be here? Probably not for a long time. After Tyne and Moe had started coming around, then it hadn't been long before the others were gone. That had happened three times now, and if it happened again, they would be the fourth.
It was almost like there was some grand plan, and Tyne was included because he gathered the people needed to make the plan come together. Damon was the master planner, and Tyne made it all happen. If true, this whole thing was unbelievable. She had to admit that it was amazing that they could take out these horrible pack alphas and put better ones in their place. This gave the new alphas an advantage because they had help that the others who took over from a bad alpha hadn't had.
Taking over a damaged pack was never easy, not even with help. For an untrained alpha pair to attempt, it seemed impossible. It was true they could both fight and had security training, which covered some of the requirements to be an alpha. There were other things that neither of them would have a clue about. Jenna wondered how Moe and Tyne would present this to them and when. After already doing this three times, they were probably pretty good at it. People started coming out of their rooms, and some of them asked for breakfast, and she quickly got it for them.
Jenna needed to focus on her job because it was almost starting time, and there was usually plenty to do. She got the list ready and printed out, and she was just waiting for them to start asking for it. As usual, Grant was the first one to grab his list and check it out. Normally, he loaded his truck the night before, so he would leave right away. He gave her a smile and a wink, and then he was gone.
Now, the other teams approached individually and got their lists. Some tried to talk while their partner loaded the truck, but more of them were learning that they should help with loading the truck, too. Some had even learned from Grant and loaded the truck as soon as they arrived when what they had removed from the truck was still fresh in their minds. Most of those on the crew were getting better, but some of them had to be removed, and the office was better for it.
The last of them were gone now and headed to whatever they had selected as their first job. Their office was quiet, and that could get on her nerves at times, but better quiet than excessively noisy. Pocketing the phone, she went back to the supply room, checked supplies, and wrote down those that needed to be ordered right away. There was an excess of paperwork, and she jumped in on it and began to knock the pile down page by page.
One of the items she'd been given was to go through a lengthy list of potential new crew members. With the extra rooms added, another crew could also be added. A few of the applicants were obviously not going to make it. They had no experience, and they had no training, and why they had even bothered to apply, she couldn't understand. They quickly went onto the no-go list, and she went to the next applicant. This one was promising because he had gone through security training about five years ago and had a personal reason not to take the job.
She didn't know why he'd been trained free, which was unusual. This was a chance for the company to redeem some of the money it had spent training him. The guy would be the first on the list of possibilities. By the time she was through, there were ten in each pile. They never threw away an applicant because you never knew what life would bring. Those who were not chosen and had no training or experience would receive an e-mail urging them to take the training. Most of them wouldn't bother.
Now she had to narrow down the list, and as she looked over the experience and training each of these had, Jason Malmar was at the top of the list with extensive training and years working for a company that no longer existed. Everything looked good, but there was no one that they could contact unless Rita, who had also worked for that company, knew him. Jenna decided it would be smart to go through the whole list in case other people had experience with that company. That way, she could ask Rita about all of them at the same time.
She narrowed the list to four people: three males and one female. It looked like all of them had experience from that same company. That made it time to call Rita. What she had to say would determine the final two choices.
“Rita speaking.”
“This is Jenna. I'm about to hire two new people. I have narrowed it down to four candidates. They all worked for a company that no longer exists. I thought it was possible you might know some of them.”
“I might if they were with the company for very long.”
“This first one was with the company for fifteen years. His name is Jason Malmar," Jenna said.
“Hire that man quickly. He was one of the best and had worked his way up to a supervisory position. Jason was smart enough to still go in the field regularly to keep up his speed and ability.”
“Okay. I'll call him when we are through. The next one is Sylvia Ruiz.”
“She had less experience, but she was still plenty good. Probably better than any of the ones you have except, of course, for you and Chase. Who are the other two?”
“Robin Lister and Henry Smith.”
“Robin is a clown.”
“So don't hire him?”
“Definitely hire him. That man can keep everyone laughing and happy even through the worst possible times. The other one, don't hire him. I could never imagine why they kept him on, and I thought he must have been related to somebody. He was awful and never did his job. If I were you, I would hire all three of them and ask for forgiveness later.” Rita admitted.
“I think I'll go with that suggestion. I think we're about to need somebody to fill in for a vacancy anyway.”
“If they are really bad, don't put it off.”
“We just became aware of it when he complained about his partner, and Grant gave her a test run, and she was unbelievable. It was clear she'd been covering for him. It'll work out just great now. Thank you so much, Rita. I miss you guys.”
“We miss you too.”
They said their goodbyes, and each of them got back to work. Jenna began making phone calls, starting with Jason. It was important to make sure that they would take the job before she notified anyone that they had not gotten the job. It made her job easier when they all took the job. Some would be starting tomorrow. They lived in the area and had always lived there since they were children. Those were the kind of employees that were likely to stay with this office. One of them even lived nearby, so they would have no issues with relocating. The one that Rita had called a clown carried his home like a turtle. He would simply move his trailer here, and he would be fine.
Sylvia was the only one who would have any issues, and those issues would come later. Once informed that a room was available for free temporarily, she said she could be there in two days. It was a relief to get what was probably the biggest job of the day nearly done. Nearly because she still had to inform those who had not been selected that they would not get the job. For the original 10 that had immediately been weeded out, she sent them the usual e-mail that said that they did not have the needed experience and suggested that they get more.
At the bottom of that e-mail, it had a list of various places where they could get training with Wolf security first, and on it, there were times when this training was given and a length that went straight to the training site. Those were easy to deal with because all she did was list who didn't make it and simultaneously send a large e-mail to them. That left her with those that had been qualified but had still not been chosen. For the seven of those, she sent an e-mail explaining that they had been put on a list but had not been given the three vacant positions. If they wish to be removed from the list, all they had to do was respond to this e-mail to let them know.
The one Rita had declined to refer had a black mark on his application and a note not to hire unless necessary. She didn't think it would ever become necessary, so she didn't worry about it. With everyone notified one way or the other, this part of her job was done, and she decided to take a break. That's when she noticed it was lunchtime, and her tummy began to rumble. She checked on her crock pots and then decided to go with the spaghetti that was ready to cook. It wasn't always easy to get it to turn out well in the microwave, especially since it was frozen.
She was lucky that this time, it turned out well and was delicious. A couple of slices cut off the bread loaf and a side of vegetables, and lunch was served. That's when the phone rang, and that was not unusual. People often tried to take advantage of their lunch break to get things done that were hard to do at other times of the day.
“Hello, wolf security, Jenna speaking.”
“Sounds very professional.” Moe approved.
“Thank you, I try. What has you calling this fine morning?”
“We are planning a visit next week, so I wanted to inform you. Have you filled those empty positions yet?”
“That's what I did this morning. I've already talked to those we offered the job, and they have all accepted. One of them will start in the morning. The other two will begin in a couple of days. I've notified those who lack training and experience with our routine e-mail, and I sent an e-mail notifying the others that they are on a list and will be called when a position opens.” Jenna explained.
“You are good. I wish I had you here again to take my place occasionally.”
“By the way, I hired an extra because Rita worked with him previously and said he was very good, like the other two.”
“Thank you. That will help because we must pull a couple more off your list to hire. Tyne is expanding the area that you're covering. That is one of the things we'll be going over when we come next week.” Moe admitted.
They said goodbye because both were busy and had a lot of work to do. That work kept her busy enough that she tried not to think about what Moe had said. An alarm went off, and she made the call to the customer but could not reach them. She immediately called the closest security specialist, who happened to be Grant. She also called the police. Hopefully, this was nothing serious, but there was no need to take chances.
All she could do at this point was wait. It seemed like it took forever before the felon finally rang.
“I just wanted to call you and let you know that everyone is all right. There was an issue, but it was with a jealous husband who refused to believe that the man in the house was installing security. He was the reason she wanted it installed, to begin with. The police hauled him away because she had a court order that he was to leave her alone, and he showed up anyway. I hope things work out for her. I'm on the way to my last job now. Anything up with you?” Grant asked, clearly not thinking there would be anything.
“Moe called and said they'd be here next week. I also hired three new crew. One will be starting in the morning. They shouldn't require much training because they worked at the place that went out of business.”
“Do you think they're coming for us so soon?”
“If they are, it's not the only reason. They are expanding the area that this office covers and adding more security officers. Moe only said there were more reasons she wouldn't discuss until they arrived," Jenna admitted.
“I guess we'll find out when they arrive. This shouldn't take me long, and I'll be happy to see you.” There was a note of heat in his voice.
That made her notice that she was feeling hot. She went to check the thermostat in the room, but it seemed to be set at seventy, which was supposed to be room temperature. Jenna turned it down a couple of degrees. She was sure the guys would be happy because they always said it was too hot for them. Maybe the others wouldn't notice since it was only a couple degrees. Her luck wasn't that good, which would probably create an argument over where the thermostat should be set.
She did a really good job on her paperwork and caught most of it up, so now she would have a lot of waiting until the teams began to arrive from the field. Jenna messed around with a little bit more paperwork, but she had really done well today. Hopefully, those in the field will also do well. She knew the little interruption would make them lose time, but hopefully, it was only a little bit.
Grant had said he would be there soon. Jenna spaced out a little bit, and her mind went to Grant. That wasn't a good thing because the wolves in their group would immediately be able to smell any desire that she was putting out. Some might even think that it was for them. There was no time to shower, so she could only try to subdue her thoughts and hope the scent would disappear.
Jenna didn't have long to wait when Grant walked through the door. Again, the desire in her rose, and she could even scent it. Heat washed over her, and she didn't understand why she got so hot. This was something that had never happened before. The heat felt overwhelming, and when she looked up, her eyes met Grant’s, and he seemed to understand.
He came behind the counter and took her hand. Her mate led her up the stairs and into the bedroom, where he stripped her and then himself and immediately began to make love to her vigorously.
“I'm sorry, this must be quick. I know you'll want to return to work as soon as possible to ensure people have food.”
That was true, but she was enjoying what he was doing for now. She felt him pounding inside of her, and part of her like the beast that he'd become. It didn't take long for both of them to climax.
“Hurry and take a quick shower. I'll take one after you do and join you.”
She knew what he was doing was right, but it made her wonder if he didn't want anyone to know they were together. Jenna still hurried and took her shower, dried, dressed, and hurried downstairs. She was happy that she had made it before anyone else had come in. Checking on the food first, she then got behind the counter and acted like she had been working the whole time.
Her personal life was no one's business, and the bosses already knew all about it—possibly more than she and Grant knew themselves. Sally was the next one to come in with her partner, and she looked around as if she was wondering if they were the first.
“Grant just made it a few moments ago," Jenna informed.
“Oh.” Sally looked terribly disappointed.
It would be best if she did not expect to be the first one while Grant was still here. Maybe Sally would take the first position when they were gone because Grant had said she was very quick. It was hard to say because Rita thought the new people would be very good and fast. One of them would be starting tomorrow, and she was looking forward to it. Maybe it would make things easier for all of them. After Sally's team, the others made it one by one, and she made sure that those who wanted supper had something available.
Her problem was that now she was beginning to get hot again. Jenna had heard of something like this when a wolf mated someone who was not a wolf that began to go through a change. This worried her because she could not do anything for a week or more if what she had heard was true. A whole week of lost work was enough to make her want to cry. Everyone in the office would know something was wrong with her. Some of them would even know what it was.
“Come. Why don't we turn in now?” Grant suggested.
Everyone had been fed, and most of the dishes had been cleaned, but none of the crock pots that were empty had been refilled. It didn't matter because she really didn't have a choice. She needed to get back upstairs, and she needed Grant. Nothing else would help her with these symptoms. They left the room and headed upstairs with a couple of their security specialists watching them as they left the room. Those were probably the ones that were wolves.
“How about some shower sex to ease your pain?” Grant said.
She just nodded, and they headed into the bathroom. The water was cool, and that made her feel better. She'd never had shower sex, and she would let him take the lead. The first thing he did was lather up his hands and run them all over her body. It felt amazing, and she just wanted more. After she rinsed off, he got a little bit more soap and had her wed her hair down. Now he shampooed it, had her rinse it, added conditioner, and had her rinse that too. What was amazing was that he made her feel cared for.
“Shouldn't I take care of you as well?” Jenna asked.
“Not this time. This time, it is all about you," Grant explained.
He picked her up and had her wrap her legs around him. His thick cock found her channel and slid in. He leaned her against the shower wall and began to slide in and out. It felt incredible, and she tried to move her hips to help him. That was not an easy thing. He began to move faster and faster, and she could feel her orgasm coming on. It didn't take long, and she exploded, but he continued to pound into her until he found his own climax.
Jenna could get used to this, but she didn't like the heat because it made her feel needy and vulnerable. Maybe she would be able to do her work at least part of the time. She had heard that some of the others who had gone through the change had managed that if they were getting plenty of sex the rest of the time. The next problem was that she was starving. That was another problem that a change could cause. Between the heat, the hunger, and the need for extra rest, this thing was going to interfere with her job a lot,
Grant went downstairs with her so that she could eat and refill the crock pots. While she did that, he washed any dishes she had missed. It didn't look like he was a cook or at least not a cook at this kind of cooking. Most werewolves could cook over an open fire, and some were even good at cooking on grills. He finished before she did, but she ate enough to be full.
They slipped upstairs, where they made love, and then she fell asleep, completely exhausted and unable to keep her eyes open one moment longer. She was sure he would wake her in time for her to start her shift. That was exactly what he did, and even though she was sluggish after they made love again, she could get up, shower, and get dressed. Hurrying downstairs, she fixed breakfast, a large amount for her, Grant, and anyone else who wanted to buy breakfast that morning. After she ate, she hurried to the counter, where she fixed the schedule so that Grant wouldn’t be too far away from the office in case she needed him.
No one would question that since he was training the new person who would appear anytime. Jason appeared before anyone else. That was no surprise and exactly what she would have done had she been new somewhere. It was good to be early, even if only a little bit, to get the lay of the land.
“I'm Jason.” His nose was drawing in the air. It alerted her that he was a wolf.
“I'm glad to meet you. I've heard a lot of good things about you.” Jenna admitted.
“I'm happy to hear that, but I can't imagine who would tell you anything about me.”
“Rita works at another office not far from here.”
“What about Ray?”
“He works there too. He's the field supervisor, and she's the office manager.”
“Too bad, I was hoping I'd have a chance to date her. Ray is a wonderful guy, but he kind of got in my way when I was trying to get her to go out with me.” Jason admitted.
“Too much information. You'll be training with Grant. It will be long enough to see if you can do things like we do. He'll cut you loose as soon as he sees that you can. Since you live around here, you'll probably have no trouble finding the places we install. Do you prefer to work alone or with a partner?”
“I used to work with a partner, but I doubt you can find a partner like I had. She was one in a million and unbelievably fast," Jason admitted.
“Her name wasn't Sylvia, was it?”
“How did you know that?”
“I was just taking a guess, but she is starting tomorrow. It's a small world, especially in the security business," Jenna suggested.
“Anyone else coming on that I need to know about?”
“Robin will also be starting Monday.”
“Rita told you about him?”
“Only to say he's the clown.”
“Exactly, that guy's a load of fun," Jason explained.
“We could use some fun around here.”
“They'll give you that. You'll see. Point me to my trainer, and we'll get started.”
Jenna pointed to Grant, and Jason headed over to him, where they spoke for a moment, then headed out to the truck. Grant already had their list, so she wasn't worried about that. Now, the rest of the teams were heading down, grabbing breakfast and their list. Everyone was leaving as soon as they had their list. She couldn't lie. She was glad when they were all gone. The only one she was missing was Grant. An hour later, he sent her a message letting her know he would be by soon. He would pick up a truck because Jason was ready to leave alone.
Jason would work alone until Sylvia started, then he would train her, and they would work as partners. When Robin started, they would decide how he would work. Some guys work better on their own, but most needed partners. There were times when even the toughest guys could get help from their partners when they seriously needed it. That was true, especially now that they were always under a constant threat from the haters. That was what she had decided to call them, and she thought that it fit perfectly.
About twenty minutes later, Grant came in, and she immediately felt the heat grow. Jason dropped me off and headed out. Do you need anything?”
“Ohh goddess, yes.” She dragged him up the stairs to the bedroom for a quickie.
She couldn't help it. It was necessary to contain this horrible heat. It was hard to work around, but she thought she might survive if she could get him several times a day. As soon as they were done, he headed downstairs.
“I'll be back for a late lunch," Grant informed.
As he was leaving, she noticed that it was about lunchtime. Her stomach growled, and she hurried over to eat some food. Doing this was easy because as it went down, she could add food and fill it back up. The meat she was adding to it was precooked, making it perfect. Chili was the same way because she precooked that meat as well. Since she was full, she hurried back to the counter and began doing more work.
It was a surprise when a tall, large man came into the office. “Is this wolf security?”
“It is. Can I help you?” Jenna asked.
“Are you selling any of the foods you're cooking? It sure smells good.”
She told him. He paid. She served his food, and he sat at the table to eat.
“By the way, I'm Robin. I'm supposed to make it on Monday but arrived early.”
“I'm glad to meet you. Are you wanting to start early?”
“I'd love to. I'm ready to get moved in as well," Robin explained.
Eek. That might cause a problem. Having someone hanging around the office with nothing to do wouldn't be good. What choice did she have?
“Finish eating, and I will show you your room, " Jenna said. “Do you want to start working tomorrow?”
“That would be wonderful.”
After he had finished eating, she led him to the empty room. “I hope this will work well for you.”
Each room had a bathroom, but the only areas where you could relax were downstairs. All that was being provided was the necessities.
“It looks good to me. I've been camping out, and while I'm tough enough to do so, I prefer a few luxuries like a bed," Robin said. Jenna giggled. You're an easy audience.”
“You don't get to laugh around here much. Maybe things will improve now that you and the other two are here.”
Jenna was relieved when Robin seemed to want to stay in his room after he got his stuff moved in. Grant sent her a text and said he would be there soon for lunch. It was as good a reason as any. She was already starting to warm up, and she hated the perspiration turning over her and how it made her feel. Jenna was ready when Grant arrived and hurried her up the stairs. It was obvious that she needed a shower, and that meant they would have shower sex.
Every time she was with him, it seemed more exciting and fulfilling. They romped around the shower for about half an hour and then went downstairs, where she fixed him a meal and got one for herself. That was when Robin showed up.
“Could I buy a bowl of that from you?” Robin asked.
“Stew or chili?”
“Stew sounds good. Maybe I'll try the chili next time.”
She made him a bowl and handed it to him, and he sat beside Grant. “This is Grant, and you'll be training with him tomorrow. Grant, this is Robin, and he came early.”
“We're always glad for the extra help. Jason trained this morning, and he's on his own now. Your old company did things similar to the way that we do. I also feel you'll be on your own quickly.”
“I hope so. Will be good to get back out there doing the fieldwork.”
“Be careful. We've had some crazy people running loose out there pretending to be security specialists to get inside people's houses.” Grant explained.
“I heard something about that and wondered if it was true.”
Jenna figured there was no way not to warn them at this point. It was also likely that anyone like Robin would have heard about what was happening. To not tell them would look suspicious and put them at risk. While Robin and Grant ate and chatted, she ate a large bowl of chili. That wasn't going to be enough. She'd heard stories about how much food someone going through a change could eat, but she hadn't believed it. Jenna got another bowl, but this time, she got stew. That would do for a little while.
Grant stood up and said goodbye to Robin before he came over and kissed her, then headed out the door.
“I see you two are mated. It's a recent thing, is it not?” Robin asked.
“You're right. It makes things a little difficult, but our bosses are helpful and understanding most of the time.”
“That's an improvement over my old bosses.”
“You might even get a bonus if you work hard and do well. Tyne and Moe are big on bonuses if you do well," Jenna explained. “You'll figure it all out before long.”
“I probably won't come back down until supper time. Do you have food for that, too?”
“I'll have something if you're hungry.”
She was glad that Robin went back to his room. Tyne had outdone himself because they had TVs and some kind of cable in the room. Cable was a good distraction in an area with little entertainment. Jenna figured that was why they allowed her to cook food here, too, because it was hard for the people to find food to eat, and not everyone could fix it for themselves. It was hard to find something for lunch in some of the areas they had to go. This was also an expensive place to live, and Jenna tried to set a fair price for good food.
Jenna could not deny that she was looking forward to getting to a more populated area with some food and entertainment options. There were good points in living in an area like this under certain conditions. Had she and Grant had their own cabin, and he had time to hunt, things might not be so bad. Part of it was their fault because they were trying to save money. They could probably take off some time every week to hunt and find entertainment, but they were both trying to save money.
Lunch was over, and she needed to get back to work. She hurried through her paperwork, getting everything done as best as possible. There were no phone calls, which made it easier. She returned to the supply room and saw what she needed to order to keep the trucks fully equipped. That had to be checked daily because you never knew when a certain item would be used.
