CHAPTER 6
T he haunted house is beginning to look amazing, the secret passages have been added, there is still lots to do but it’s more just decorating now.
It took the brothers about a week to modify the inside of the haunted house, and while that was happening Elliott and his funfair family started to arrive. We’re going to have a mass BBQ on Sunday to thank them for coming. It will be good to catch up with all of them again.
But now we are sat around the dinner table, just chatting about this and that when talk turns to the haunted walk.
“I’ve contacted a company that supplies outside holograms. They should be arriving the day after tomorrow to set up. There will be a headless horseman, zombies, ghosts etc. If any of you witches have time tomorrow, can you help create the haunted walk? I want it to look like a forest,” Adhan asks.
“I’m only working tomorrow morning, so I can come and help,” I say.
“I have nothing urgent on, so I can come and help as well,” Titus says.
“I can come tomorrow evening as it’s Melody’s turn to cover evenings this week,” Justice offers.
“I can come after the shop closes tomorrow,” Nix says.
“Same for me,” Sal adds.
“And I can come when I finish with Elaine,” Temp says.
“Thank you,” Adhan says. “Tomorrow evening it is then. Will you be able to do it in the dark?”
“Yep, we’re super witches remember,” I remind him.
“How could I have forgotten,” Adhan says, shaking his head.
I laugh and lean into his side.
“Temp, it’s your birthday in a few days, have you decided what you want to do?” Emily asks him.
Temp grins.
This should be good.
“Yep, I want us all to go crab fishing,” he announces.
I was so not expecting that!
“Seriously?” Sal asks him.
Temp nods. “Yep, I saw it online and it looks like fun. They do it at Quay. I thought we could go there, have lunch and then have a go at crab fishing.”
“That sounds awesome,” Kean says, smiling before laughing. “We took Cam and Alfred crab fishing when you guys were what ten/ eleven?”
Ben bursts out laughing. “So we did, I’d forgotten that.”
“If I remember rightly, we didn’t catch anything,” Alfred put in.
“But we all had fun,” Cam said, grinning. “If I remember rightly you, Jude, pulled up a load of seaweed and started chasing us all around with it.”
The brothers and Emily all laugh.
“And then my darling Jude threw the seaweed at me,” Emily adds.
Jude laughs louder. “I did.”
“Jude!” Sal exclaimed, pretending to look shocked. He’s holding Connie and moves slightly away. “I don’t think I want my daughter growing up with you as her father.”
We all laugh at that.
“It was years ago,” Jude replied, totally unrepentant and taking Connie out of Sal’s arms, hugging her.
“Can I come crab fishing, Temp?” Nora asks. “I’ve never done that before either.”
“If Nix says yes. My birthday is Saturday, so you won’t miss any school,” Temp replies looking at her.
“I’ll check with Jodie and see if she minds covering the shop for the day. If she can, we can go,” Nix said, pulling his phone out of his pocket and sending a text.
“I’ll check with John and see if he minds covering the bookshop for the day. I can cancel all the evening meetings, so he can finish early,” Alfred said, also sending a text.
“Emily, are you coming?” Temp asks her.
“Are you sure?” she asks him.
“Totally, I’d love you to come.”
“Then thank you, Temp, I would love to.”
Just then Alfred and Nix’s phones ping, and they both look at their messages.
“John says, yes to covering the shop for the day,” Alfred tells them.
“Jodie said yes as well,” Nix said.
“Justice, can you come?” Alfred asks.
Justice nods. “I can. Melody is covering the weekend for me. I figured we’d be doing something and already asked her.”
Alfred leaned into Justice's side. “I’m glad you can come.”
Justice kisses the side of Alfred’s head. “Me too.”
“Just think Justice, you can make them killer crabs,” Temp says, laughing.
“No killer crabs,” Emily says. “I’m not sure other crabbers would appreciate them.”
