CHAPTER 7
W e’re standing a little way away from the Halloween House. All the brothers, except for my Adhan, are inside working on the decorations while I’m out here with the witches.
“So, what do you want?” Nix asks Adhan.
“I was thinking maybe a mile of forest, with different trees. I don’t mind if you make it straight or curvy. Have fun with the design, just remember we have holograms and stuff going in,” Adhan says.
“Okay then witchlings,” Temp said, rubbing his hands together. “Let’s have fun.”
I throw my magic out, as do the others and suddenly before us is a forest.
“Nice, let’s have a walk-through and see where we can add things,” I say, pulling my phone out of my pocket and turning on the torch. The others do the same and we start walking through the forest.
“We should have scarecrows dotted around,” Sal says. The next moment, they appeared on both sides of the path.
I shudder, they look scary and for some reason, they are carrying straw weapons.
“Nice Sal,” Justice says. He clicks his fingers and jack o’ lanterns appear lining the walkway, with poles wrapped in different-shaped lights, like bats and pumpkins intermingled with the scarecrows.
“I’m loving the lights,” Sion says, touching one of the bat lights.
“Me too,” Adhan says.
We walk further through the forest. The pathway is wide enough to walk four abreast.
“I’m liking the willow trees,” Adhan says, looking at them.
I’ve created some on either side of the walkway, and some further back with a green space in front. “That was my idea,” I say. “I thought we could have wind blowing through them, so it looks like the long limbs are trying to capture people.”
“Nice. I like that,” Nix said.
We carry on walking, adding lighting here and there and in the middle of the path is a large tree, the path flows around both sides of the tree and again behind it.
“I thought we could make this an apple tree, and have the tree throwing apples at people,” Temp says, as apples appear on the tree branches.
Adhan laughs. “Just make sure they are soft apples.”
“I can do that,” Temp says grinning.
I yelp as I’m suddenly hit with an apple. I turn and look at Temp, ignoring the others who are laughing at me. “It’s like that is it?”
Temp takes a step back, the laughter falling off his face. “Umm, no.”
I just grin and the next moment, the area is flooded with bats flying around everyone except me. I stand off to the side laughing as the others are batting the bats away. After a few moments, I get rid of them.
“That was just mean,” Sion says fake scowling.
“But fun,” I say. “We can have some bats in other sections.”
“We can, sweetheart, just maybe not that many,” Adhan says, grabbing my hand.
“Okay.” As yes that really was a lot of bats.
We carry on walking and see a waterfall off to one side. It all looks amazing, like something out of a fantasy, and the pool the water falls into is surrounded by rocks and flowers.
“I thought we could have merfolk in the pool,” Tie said.
“Nice bro,” Cassie said, walking to the edge and looking into it. “We could have this as a wishing pool. Then collect the money thrown in and add it to the charity money.”
Adhan nods. “Good idea.”
The next moment a sign appears by the side of the waterfall.
“Sorted,” Temp says.
“With the holograms in the trees, this walk will be amazing,” I say, suddenly having a thought. “Wait, does the town have merfolk? How did I not know this?”
“No, we don’t have any merfolk, but I’m sure we can get some people dressed up and in there,” Adhan says. “If not, I’m sure I can hire some from somewhere.”
“Are the hologram people putting speakers around the forest with moaning and screams of pain?” Sion asks.
“I’d not thought of that,” Adhan admits. “I’ll ask them if they can do that, if not, I’m sure you lot can do something.”
“We can,” Titus replies for all of us.
We walk the rest of the woods, adding things here and there.
I also randomly add a disco section. It has a mirror ball and a dance section that will play disco hits.
Adhan looks at me and shakes his head.
“What?” I ask, innocently.
“Nothing, sweetheart,” he says, laughing as the others debate if disco is really a Halloween thing.
It’s disco, you can make that fit anything. Just to prove a point, suddenly The Monster Mash starts playing. ~ I was working in my lab ~
“Yeah okay,” Cassie says. “The disco works.”
I grin at him. “Discos always work,” I mean they are discos, why wouldn’t they work?
“We’ll have different paranormals in the woods, it will be different each evening. I’ve even managed to get Shamus to agree to play in the woods, carrying a crock of gold,” Adhan says.
“Does he not usually take part?” Nix asks.
Adhan shakes his head. “No, he refused to do the house, but said he would play in the woods this year.”
“What happens if someone captures him?” Cassie asks.
“No idea, I can’t wait to see what will happen if someone does though,” Adhan replies.
We finish the walk and I look around. “We should have a drink and food station here, plus some benches. I’m sure people would like something at the end of the walk.”
Adhan nods. “I’ll check with Elliot and see if he has a spare food truck, if not I’ll look at hiring one in. As for the seating, I’ll let you guys handle that.”
The next moment picnic tables appeared, along with a fire pit.
“Thanks,” Adhan says. “The house decorations should be pretty much finished today. Can any of you come and help with the house tomorrow?”
“I can tomorrow morning,” I say. “Pretty sure Callum can as well.”
“I can help tomorrow as well,” Sion said.
“I have a paper to finish, but if I finish in time, I can help,” Cassie offers.
“I have some Zoom meetings, so I’ll be tied up all day,” Titus says.
“Jodie has the day off tomorrow, so Sal and I will be busy in the shop,” Nix adds.
“I’m sure between me, Callum and Sion we can sort the house out,” I say. I can’t wait to play in the house.
