CHAPTER 8

T he next day sees Adhan, Callum, Sion and I back at the farm. I texted Callum last night, asking if he wanted to help and got a YES PLEASE straight back, yes all in capitals. Callum always seems surprised when we include him in things, but like I told him the other day, we’re friends. We’re family really. It wasn’t always that way.

When Callum first came to town he threw a translocation powder at me and instead of me vanishing off somewhere, because of all the protection I have it burned my face. It literally felt like the side of my face was being burned away.

The dark witches decided I was the leader of the true light witches and with me out of the way, they would win their little war. I’m apparently the bane of their existence as well. Truthfully, I don’t think it’s just me now, pretty sure we’re all the bane of their existence, as every encounter they have with us, they lose. Anyway, as I was saying, Callum was an angry dark witch when he first arrived, but time away from his family changed him, as did falling in love with Clarence. I now class him as another brother, the same as I do with Sion.

Poor Sion. I’d only been in town a few weeks when descendants of Eli Cartwright, Constance's son, tried to kill me, well me and the other town witches one evening. They sent a spell to get inside our heads. Sion tried so hard to break the spell, that something got damaged in his brain. He was in a coma for a while and when he woke up, he had no memory of his family or any history of the town. He once knew all the books and journals relating to previous residents. Even now, months later he still doesn’t have those memories back. I made him family when I found out he didn’t have any. He and Cassie have a thing for each other, but for some reason, they still haven’t got together. I’ll have to find out why because I’m nosy and want to know.

“So, I know there is to be a flying clothes and furniture room, what else do you want?” I ask Adhan.

“Whatever you want to do. I’ll tell you where the secret passageways are, or the hiding holes, and you can add whatever you want,” he replies.

I look at Callum and Sion. “Let’s have some fun my brothers,” I say to them grinning.

Callum muttered a spell and surrounding the front of the house is now a cemetery, with the skeletons, some of which look like they are clawing up out of the ground, others in different poses around the cemetery.

“Nice Cal,” Sion says, and the next moment pumpkins are lining either side of the steps leading up to the house with decorations around the porch.

“This looks amazing,” I tell them. I add a large bubbling cauldron on the porch. With a witch statue standing over it and Halloween decorations hanging on hooks all around the outside.

“This really does look amazing already,” Adhan says.

“We can add ghosts flying around the house each evening,” Sion says.

“Excellent. Let’s go inside and you can work your magic there as well,” Adhan says, leading us inside. He gives a startled jump and a “Whoa,” when spiders suddenly drop down in front of him and smoke hits him. His hand flying to his chest.

We burst out laughing.

“Who did that?” I ask, looking at Callum and Sion.

“I did the spiders,” Callum said. “I thought they would make people jump, and look at that, it worked.”

Sion and I laugh at that.

“It did indeed,” Adhan said, grinning at Callum.

“I did the smoke,” Sion said, “but I’m liking the fake spiders. They look like they are bungee jumping.”

“I can’t wait to see what else you three come up with.”

Neither can I.
