CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR
RAINEY
“ E chooooo!” Rainey raised her voice. “Come on!”
“Give me a second. I need to get this all colored in.”
“But I wanna paint now!”
“We said we would using pencils until I finished. I’m almost done.”
Rainey looked over at Tucker, who was already painting. He had gotten here before them. She had wanted to go over to him first, but she promised Echo they would draw something with a pencil before they went to the painting section.
“Echo!”
“Sheesh, I’m going to tell your Daddy on you.”
“And say what?” Rainey asked, cocking her hip to the side.
“That you are being impatient. Haven’t you been working on that with him recently?”
Rainey stared at her in shock. “How did you know?”
Echo shrugged. “Lucky guess. I just know you can get impatient and figured it would be something you would work on.”
Echo got up from her seat and held up her drawing. It was a motorcycle, and she knew which one—Deccan’s.
“He’s scary,” Rainey informed her.
“I heard how you guys met. But I also know he took a liking to you. That’s good.”
“I don’t know about that.” Rainey wrung her hands together.
She still got nervous thinking about Deccan. After he messaged her apologizing, she said it was fine, and they hadn’t texted since. Not that she minded. He’d already sent her pictures of a dead body; what else was he going to do?
It was traumatizing enough. A week had passed since that, and she still woke up some nights having a nightmare. It normally happened when she was getting really stressed, which Daddy was trying to help with.
“He’s still terrifying.”
“Deccan can be scary, but he’s a real softy once you get to know him.”
“I am?”
Rainey screamed, turning around to see Deccan standing at his full height. Taking a step back, she held her hand to her chest, trying to get a deep breath in.
She hadn’t heard him walk up next to them. How had she missed that? How had he gotten into the club? There was a bouncer out front at all times. Did he threaten or bribe him?
“Can I talk to you for a second?” Deccan pointed to Echo.
“I’ll just be over near Tucker,” Rainey rushed out, making her way toward Tucker.
She looked back several times, wanting to make sure Echo was okay. Not that Rainey could do much, with being pregnant and smaller than Deccan. But she could inform the bouncer or one of the other Doms in the building.
“Do you know what’s going on?” Tucker asked. “Isn’t that her protector, as she calls him?”
“Yeah, it is. He is really scary.”
“Mm-hm.”
Both of them watched their interactions with each other. Echo didn’t seem happy. What was going on? Was she safe?
All of a sudden, Deccan turned toward Rainey and beckoned her forward with his fingers.
“Umm, I don’t know if I want to.”
“Do you want him to come over here?” Tucker asked. “I think he’ll get want he wants either way.”
Rainey sighed and walked over toward him. Echo had walked past her. Why was she leaving? Why was Deccan wanting to talk to her in private?
“I will never leave Daddy,” she blurted out as she got closer.
Deccan nodded. “Good. I don’t expect you to. If he ever does anything, you let me know. I’ll take care of him.”
Her eyes went wide. “You’ll take care of him if he spanks me again?”
“No. If he does bad things. Spanking or punishing you when you break the rules is a good thing. You need that in your life.”
“But you just said if he ever does anything to me to let you know and you’ll take care of it. He is going to spank my bottom again at some point. Stick me in the corner or make me do the dreaded lines again. Or even worse, put ginger up my bottom again.”
She shuddered at the memory.
“You probably deserved all of those.”
Rainey narrowed her eyes. “I thought you were on my side.”
“And so is your Daddy.”
Crossing her arms over her chest, she cocked her hip. “What do you need?”
Rainey didn’t know what came over her to talk to him like that. He was intimidating, and she was sassing him.
“Watch your tone. I won’t hesitate to text your Daddy about your attitude.”
“You wouldn’t.”
“Test me.”
Sighing, she dropped her arms. “Sorry. Why are you here? Why did you want to talk to me?”
“I wanted to come and say sorry in person for sending you the picture of Pete. I forget not everyone grew up like me.”
Her eyes went wide once again, and her jaw dropped open. He saw dead people all the time when he was growing up?
“Are you okay? Have you been talking to someone about that? I’m pretty sure you should if you aren’t. It’s not healthy to hold all that in.”
Deccan blinked several times before he laughed.
“You shouldn’t be laughing,” she whispered.
“Enough about me. I’m sorry for sending pictures to you. I shouldn’t have.”
“It’s okay. I forgive you.”
He shook his head. “You shouldn’t forgive me so easily.”
“But you came here to apologize to me?” she questioned.
“Yes, but you are supposed to be mad and make me work for it. I see you as a little sister. I lost my little sister years ago, and you remind me of her. I don’t want to hurt your feelings or make you scared.”
If only he knew he didn’t have to do anything; she was scared of him. Just from the way he walked around like he owned everything and would hurt anyone who got in his way.
“Ummm.”
“You don’t have to be afraid of me. I would never hurt you.”
“Rainey?” Daddy called out.
“Ah, I figured he would be watching and come down when we were talking.”
She looked over at her Daddy. He was casually walking toward them, but she could see his eyes trained on her, making sure she was okay.
“I’m okay, Daddy. We were just talking. I still love you and will always love you.”
Daddy wrapped his arm around her. “I know.” He kissed the top of her head. “I’m not worried about that.”
“Marco.”
“Deccan.”
She sighed.
“I still forgive you,” she told Deccan. “You can’t change my mind. I won’t.”
Deccan looked at Daddy. “Protect her. She is too trusting and forgiving.”
“Of course. You don’t need to tell me.”
Daddy’s body was stiff as he held her close to him. Deccan turned toward Echo and Tucker.
“Yes?” Echo snarked.
“Watch your tone, young lady.”
Echo didn’t back down, though, and Rainey wanted to give her a round of applause. She would not be able to do that if it were Deccan or her Daddy. Okay, maybe to Daddy, if she was exhausted and wanted something he wasn’t giving her.
“I will be seeing all of you more often,” Deccan informed them as he looked around, making eye contact with everyone. “Especially you two.”
Rainey took a deep breath as he pointed at her and Echo. Why her?
“Over my dead body,” Daddy said.
“That can be arranged.”
Tears pooled in her eyes, and she shook her head. “N-no,” she choked out.
“Shit, girly. I’m not going to kill your Daddy. Not unless he abuses you, and before you can say it, spankings, corner time, ginger in the bottom, and lines do not count.”
Rainey wiped away the tears on her cheeks.
“I’ll be seeing her around. Siblings date. Check-ins to make sure your Daddy is taking care of you.”
“He would never,” she whispered.
“I know, but still.”
Deccan turned toward Echo. “Text me when you get home.”
“Make me.”
“That can be arranged.”
Echo shook her head and sighed.
Deccan turned and walked out of the building. Sagging into Daddy’s embrace, she took several deep breaths. The few times Rainey was around Deccan, he always managed to make her exhausted.
“Rainey will be taking a nap in my office. She’ll hang out another time,” Daddy told Echo and Tucker.
