“ A re you sure this is a good idea?” she asked nervously.
They barely made it to the airport on time, and part of her had hoped they’d miss their flight. But they were now checked in and waiting for boarding.
They were in a lounge, but she still felt like people were staring at her. A couple of women across the room were whispering to each other and pointing at her.
Seriously. When were people going to forget about her? She’d grown up a lot since The Benner Life . And she was dressed down in a pair of yoga tights and an oversized sweater.
“I knew I should have dyed my hair purple,” she muttered.
“What?” Corbin gave her an alarmed look.
“To disguise myself,” she said. “I think those women over there recognize me.”
“You think so?” He wrapped an arm around her.
One of the women flushed as they saw him looking over at them.
“Or maybe they’re just admiring you,” she said, wondering if she’d gotten it all wrong.
Was she acting paranoid?
“Nah, that’s not it,” he said, blushing slightly.
“Oh yeah. I think it is. They’re wondering how I got so lucky.”
He shook his head.
“You’ve got that whole sexy Clark Kent meets GI Joe thing going on.”
“Jesus,” he muttered. “I do not.”
“Yep, a total hero. Gorgeous, sexy, and kind. You’re the whole package, Corbin McIntyre.”
“You really think so?”
She stared up at him, her gaze intense as she took him in. “I don’t know how I got lucky enough to catch your interest.”
“You’ve done more than catch my interest.” He touched his finger to the side of her chin, keeping her face turned toward him. “You’ve got all of me, Bebe.”
“You promise?” she whispered, vulnerability filling her face.
“Hey, I promise. This isn’t just a whim for me. I’m not messing around. I want you. All of you. I’m here to stay. I’m not going anywhere.”
Relief filled her face, and while he knew she would still have doubts, he thought he was starting to get through to her.
“I’m still not sure about going to Sanctuary Ranch. Are you sure it’s all right with the owners? I mean . . . why would your boss want me there? I could put everyone in danger.” She rubbed her hands up and down her arms.
“Sanctuary Ranch was set up a long time ago to be a safe place for people who want relationships that aren’t always considered normal. At Sanctuary you’ll find lots of Littles and Daddies. Some of the people who live there are also in ménage relationships, others are Doms and subs.”
“Other Littles live there?” she asked.
“Yes. And like I told you, we have the best security you can get. The stalker will first have to find out where you’ve gone and then find a way to get to you on the Ranch. Then he’ll have to get past a bunch of ex-military as well as me. And that is not happening.”
She smiled up at him, but she still looked unsure.
“What will they think of the fact that you’re with me?” she asked.
“Well, they might think I was a bit unprofessional, but Bain fell for Ari while he was protecting her. So it’s happened before. It’s that whole bodyguard-client thing.” He winked at her.
“No, it’s just a you-thing. You’re too difficult to resist,” she told him.
“Why, thank you.”
“Plus, you’re persistent and stubborn and like to get your way.”
“Hey!”
She grinned at him. Then her face sobered. “But I meant about me? What will they think about you being with me?”
“They will think I’m a fucking lucky bastard,” he told her. “That’s what they’ll think.”
“What’s wrong?” Hayes barked as he sat next to them, his plate nearly overflowing with food.
“Did you leave any food for anyone else?” she asked him.
He grunted. “Got a few looks, but if you put a buffet out, you’ve gotta expect people will want to eat it. So what’s wrong?”
“Bebe is worried about going to Sanctuary,” he said.
“Is it the flying? I hate flying commercial. All those people. No one seems to have any idea about personal space. And I always end up next to someone who falls asleep and then snores or farts the entire time.”
“Commercial?” she asked.
“He was a SEAL. He’s used to flying in military planes,” Corbin said. “No snoring or farting on those flights, huh?”
Hayes ignored him. “Don’t use the bathroom on the plane. Imagine how dirty it is. Only takes one person with norovirus to touch stuff, and boom, the whole plane is vomiting and shitting themselves.”
Both of them gaped at Hayes.
“Okay, now I really don’t want to get on the plane,” Bebe said, looking slightly pale.
Hayes clapped his hands together as he stood. “Good. Let’s hire a car. It will only take around sixteen hours to drive to the Ranch if we don’t stop.”
“Wait.” She grabbed his arm as he stood. “I don’t want to do that either.”
“And it’s not as safe,” Corbin pointed out.
Hayes sighed, sitting and picking his plate back up. “Fine. But neither of you had better fall asleep. Got it?”
