Chapter 22

22

Lilith

Miranda Odell smiles as she hands me Isadora. “This one’s been asking for you.”

I perch Isadora on my left hip and kiss the top of her head. “Nanny W misses you, xuxuzinho .”

It’s been exactly one week since my surgery. In that time, Dimitri moved me into his room. When Clara asked why, he explained that I needed some extra help with my hurt wrist. Both Clara and Diego have taken this to heart and are constantly underfoot, trying to ‘help’ me. Dimitri also called Miranda and hired her for the rest of the summer. She was shocked when she arrived to find me, but Dimitri had an explanation for it, too.

“We’re dating, but the kids don’t know yet.”

I was so stunned at his honesty that all I could do was nod in agreement.

It’s made it easier, to be honest. I don’t have to hide the fact that I’m slipping into Dimitri’s room at night anymore. No, we go to bed like a regular couple. The only thing that’s different is that he’s fucked me into oblivion each night, saying that I needed a reminder that I was his.

He still hasn’t said he loves me.

It breaks my heart a little each time that he doesn’t.

I still haven’t told him about Raquel. And now Cecely is threatening to do it for me. I know she wouldn’t really, but I understand what she’s saying. I need to tell him. Soon. Especially since I haven’t been able to see Raquel in person because of my wrist, and I miss her.

Blinking, I realize Miranda asked me something.

“Sorry, I was spaced out. What did you say?”

“I asked if you were sure you wanted to drive to your appointment?”

“I’m sure. I just need to grab the keys for the SUV to give you before I head out.”

Her forehead scrunches in confusion. “Why do I need the keys for the SUV?”

“Clara has ballet today.”

“Yes, I have her schedule.” Her eyes light up. “Oh.”

“Oh, what?”

“Dr. Santos didn’t tell you he gave me my own vehicle to drive, did he?”

“He did? Then what am I supposed to do with the SUV?”

“Drive it,” Dimitri says from behind me. “Even though I’d feel better if you let me drive you instead.”

Miranda winks at me as she takes Isadora. “Have a good day, Lili. I can’t wait to hear how it goes.”

When she’s gone, I turn to Dimitri.

“I thought you had already left?”

“I did, but remembered I forgot something.”

“What did you forget?”

“This.” He leans down, brushing his lips against mine. “Now, are you sure you don’t want to ride with me?”

I laugh. “I’m starting to think that’s the real reason you came back home.”

“Did it work?”

“I want to drive.”

He sighs. “Fine. Don’t forget you have an appointment with me after your physical therapy session.”

“I haven’t forgotten, Daddy,” I tease.

His eyes flash with hunger. “Don’t tempt me, minha vida .”

I have a feeling I’m going to pay for that cheeky comment later, so I try to distract him.

“Do you think I’ll get a splint?”

“We’ll know more later, but usually people go into a cast.”

I pout. “I don’t want a cast.”

“Just think how much fun the kids will have signing it.”

“Fine.” I glance at my phone. “Ugh. I need to go or I’m going to be late.”

I kiss him one last time and then hurry out to the SUV. Inside, I realize how much harder it’s going to be to drive than I first thought.

Dimitri walks up to my window, tapping.

“Want me to drive?”

I glare, even though I’m not really mad. “I guess.”

He opens the door so I can get out.

When I’m in the passenger seat, he says, “This makes me feel better.”

I hum under my breath.

“Daddy will make it up to you.”

This has me shifting, because I know he will.

At the hospital, he lets me out at the outpatient physical therapy entrance. I’ve been once before, just to meet my certified hand therapist, Amber. When I walk into the gym, she’s waiting with a smile.

“Right on time. How are you feeling today?”

“Good,” I answer. “Just ready to get this started, so I don’t feel so useless.”

“Girl, you’re not useless! You’re injured.” She points to the area behind her. “I’m going to give you a tour and then we’re going to get started.”

She walks me around the gym, showing me different things.

“We’re going to get you on the arm bike after your appointment with Dr. Santos. Eventually we’ll add weights. But for today, you get to do some finger exercises.”

I must make a face because she laughs.

“Believe me, you’ll see just how much of a workout this is when we’re done.”

We go to a small table where she has me sit. After going through each exercise once, I see what she means. My wrist already feels tired, like I’ve lifted a ton or something. By the time the hour is up, I’m close to tears.

“Put some ice on that when you get home.”

“Oh, I plan on it.”

“See you on Wednesday!”

She’s greeting the next patient as I leave. I follow the signs in the atrium, going to the physician’s building where Dimitri’s office is. My phone rings as I step into the lift.

Thinking it’s Dimitri, I pull it out and freeze when I see Uncle Wolfe’s name flashing across the screen. His threat from last time dances across my mind. If I don’t answer, he’s going to get angry with me and there’s no telling what he’ll do.

“Hello?”

“You’re needed at my house this weekend. You and Adam need to finalize some things for the wedding.”

“I can’t.”

“Lilith—”

“Listen, I don’t give a crap what this wedding looks like. Let Adam figure it out.”

I end the call and put my phone on silent just to be safe. But I can’t stop the dread that has settled deep in my gut.

I need to talk to Dimitri.

The doors open and I find him standing there, a smile on his handsome face.

“There you are. How was therapy?”

“Good,” I manage to say.

“My office is this way.”

I’m led through a side door to what must be Dimitri’s office. It reminds me of his bedroom with the dark furniture and dark walls. The bookshelf behind his desk is filled with medical books and orthopedic sculptures of different joints in the body. There’s also a photo of the entire Santos family. I move closer, looking. It was taken before Serafina passed away. She’s holding her round stomach, smiling up at Dimitri. What really catches my attention is Diego. He’s standing behind his mother, and it’s clear he’s been crying.

“I need to have a new photo taken,” Dimitri says from behind me.

“This one is lovely. I’m sure Isadora will love to see it one day.” I point. “Why was Diego upset?”

“I’m not sure, to be honest. Joao and I met Serafina and the twins at the studio. When we got there, they were both upset.” He sighs. “Serafina had a way of upsetting them.”

I spin, touching his arm. “I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be. Now, let’s get you into an exam room and take a look at this wrist.”

He leads me from his office, down a hallway. In the room, I sit on the exam table while he gathers some supplies. I look around while I wait. This room is decorated in blue and white. A framed photo signed by one of the most famous quarterbacks from the Dallas team hangs in the center of the wall. A jersey is on the opposite wall with Dimitri’s name.

“Is every room decorated like this one?”

Dimitri smiles as he glances at me. “Each room is a different sport, but all are Texas teams.”

“Makes sense.”

His lips twitch. “Well, and one Olympus Wrestling Federation room, thanks to Brooks. He insisted that I dedicate a room to his sport, since he gives me so much business.”

“I can see him saying that.”

Dimitri sets some items on a small silver instrument stand and wheels it next to the exam table.

“I’m going to remove the dressing and splint. It’s going to feel strange. Just try to keep your wrist as steady as possible.”

I nod my understanding. Carefully, he unwraps the dressing and removes the splint. Holy crap! He wasn’t kidding. My wrist feels like it weighs a ton and it’s hard to keep it steady. He helps by bracing it with his free hand.

“The stitches look good. Wound is healing nicely. I think we can remove these today.”

He gets to work removing the stitches, which hurts more than I expected. The area where the stitches were doesn’t look bad, but the bruising all up and down my arm does.

“Is the bruising normal?”

“It is.” He pauses. “I never apologized.”

“For what?”

“For kicking my shoes off next to the door instead of putting them on the rack.”

I snort. “Oh, so you did know it was your shoes I tripped over?”

“I knew.”

“It’s okay. You’ve made it up to me, Daddy.” I say the last part teasingly, but don’t miss the heat in his eyes.

“I’m going to bring my nurse in here and she’s going to help me with the cast.”

I groan. “No.”

“Yes. But Daddy will make it up to you.”

“You play dirty.”

“I play to win, little girl.”

He winks at me as he disappears. A moment later, he comes back with an older woman.

“Lilith, this is Shelene. Shelene is my righthand woman, and this office wouldn’t survive without her.”

Shelene snorts. “Laying it on thick, Dr. S., but keep it coming. You know I love it.”

Dimitri tells me, “Shelene has worked with me since day one.”

“You must be the wonderful Lilith I keep hearing all about.” She gestures to Dimitri. “This one can’t stop talking about you.”

My eyes widen. “Really?”

“Really.” She leans in and says in a loud whisper, “He’s totally smitten.”

My cheeks are warm, which only makes her laugh.

“Oh, I see it’s mutual. Good for the two of you.” She turns to Dimitri. “Let’s do this, doc. I have an appointment with the grandkids that I can’t be late for.”

The two get to work. I’m sad to see that the cast is going to go from my knuckles to my elbow.

Shelene asks, “What color do you want, honey? We have white, pink, blue, green, purple, and black.”

“Purple, please.”

“Good pick.”

Before I know it, the fiberglass cast is dried and I’m ready to go.

“It was so nice to meet you,” I say to Shelene.

“You, too. I’m sure I’ll see you at the Christmas party.”

I only smile, because I know it’s not that easy and there’s a big chance that I won’t be around for the holidays.

Dimitri says, “Let me walk you out.”

I follow him, realizing we’re going back to his office.

Inside, he locks the door, turning to me.

I can’t stop the smile that spreads on my lips.

“Do you always lock the door when you speak to patients in your office, Dr. Santos?”

“I don’t, Ms. Wolfe.” He stalks toward me. “Nor do I have a raging hard-on while putting on a cast.”

I snort. “I should hope not.”

“Come here.”

I close the distance between us, and he pulls me into his embrace, covering my mouth with his. He kisses me slow and sweet until heat spreads across my body.

“Tell me, minha vida , did you pick purple because you know I love that color on you?”

I nod up at him. “Yeah.”

“Then Daddy is going to reward you.” He pats the top of his desk. “Sit.”

I start to move, but he stops me.

“Take off your pants.”

I hurry to do as he says, which takes a bit longer because of the cast. Overall, I think I’m going to like the cast better than the splint, though.

Shaking my head, I kick off my pants and then sit on the desk.

“Lie back.”

I do and watch him. He sits in his chair and puts my legs over his shoulders as he leans in, licking my seam. I moan as I feel a rush of heat go straight to my core. Dimitri licks and sucks, slowly bringing me to the edge.

“Please,” I whimper.

“Does my girl want to come?”

“Yes!”

I expect him to finish me. What I don’t expect is for him to move back, letting my legs fall. Pushing myself up on my elbows, I find him smirking at me.

“Let’s try something new.” He unzips his pants, freeing his cock. “Ride me.”

I move as fast as I can from the desk, straddling him. Slowly, I lower myself onto his cock.

“Fuck,” I moan. “You feel even bigger this way, Daddy.”

He lets me set the pace as I use him to get off. I’m so wound up that I come a moment later, panting out his name. He thrusts a few more times before he comes, filling me.

Sighing, I rest my head against his shoulder.

“Dimitri?”

“Yes, minha vida ?”

“Can we talk when we get home?”

“Talk? About what?”

I lift my head to meet his gaze. “About a lot of things.”

“Of course.”

Slowly, I move off him. My gut is swirling with doubt, but this is the right thing to do. He needs to know about Raquel. I just hope he can forgive me once I tell him.
