Epilogue Harper

Eighteen months later

The final note lingers in the air, hanging between the rafters of the theater like a soft, fading echo.

I hold my violin close to my heart, reveling in the accomplishment of finishing another performance. For a heartbeat, everything is still, and then the applause erupts.

People stand, clapping and cheering, the sound touching every corner of the theater.

Tonight’s performance of Sleeping Beauty was epic. All the dancers on stage made the ballet come to life but down here in the orchestra pit, there was a different sort of energy that transported me out of this world.

My heart swells around me at the continued cheers and when I look at the front row and see Asher’s smiling face, I feel his joy deep within me.

There’s nothing quite like watching that pride shining in my husband’s eyes and the way he looks at me like I’m the star of this entire night.

Asher knows how hard I worked to get this place with the New York City Ballet. I got my acceptance letter just a few months after graduating NYU. It was another dream my heart longed for.

Tonight’s show was my first time playing in the group of first violinists.

I switch my gaze from Asher and look at Josh and Lisa, who is now pregnant, and Beth, who married her hockey player a month ago.

They all smile back at me.

I meet Asher backstage fifteen minutes later.

He scoops me up into his arms and spins me around.

“You were amazing, Mrs. Le Blanche.” He kisses my forehead, then gives me another kiss on my lips.

“Thank you, Mr. Le Blanche.”

“Ready for your secret surprise?” He pulls back and takes both my hands into his.

“I’m ready. You have to tell me what it is though.”

“If I did it wouldn’t be a secret surprise. You’ll just have to wait and see.”

“Okay. I’ll wait.”

“I promise it will be worth it. Consider it an extension of our anniversary.”

I laugh. “Oh my gosh. Now I’m even more intrigued.”

We went wild for our anniversary. Asher took me to all the amazing places I couldn’t remember visiting before and we formed new memories. We spent six weeks traveling around Australia, Mexico, England, Italy and Spain.

In the time that we’ve been married every day with him has been amazing. I’m sure whatever he has up his sleeve tonight will be just as good.

“I love you.”

I grin back at him, never tiring of hearing those words. “I love you, too.”

He pulls me in for a kiss that’s filled with all sorts of wild promises.

An hour later he has me boarding our private jet for Tahiti.

Our next adventure.
