I’ve just gotten home from a game of pool with Hunter and Luc.

For once, Hunter didn’t win.

The babies teamed up against us and wrecked the game. I spent the night chasing after them in their little car.

Noah, Hunter’s son, and Paul, Luc’s son, are both almost two. I can imagine them in years to come being as crazy as Hunter and Luc.

Noah likes to take charge and be the mastermind—just like Hunter.

Paul follows along like the dutiful sidekick.

I was the guy who was allergic to the words marriage and babies . Now I’m lapping it all up.

I find Harper in our bedroom writing in her notebook. She has her violin out so I assume she must have been practicing. She’s back at work next week.

We had a crazy amazing time in Tahiti and, like always, it was difficult to leave.

She smiles at me when I walk into the room and rushes toward me.

“You’re back.”

“Yes, I am. And I want you.”

She giggles when I pick her up and carry her over to the bed where I lay her down and feed her hungry kisses.

“I have a surprise for you,” she says, kissing the bridge of my nose.

“ You have a surprise for me?”

“I do.” Her eyes brighten.

“What is it?”

“It’s time for the next adventure.”

I sit up and stare at her, knowing what she means but not quite believing it.

Kids are supposed to be our next adventure.

“What are you saying to me?”

She sits up, too, and slips her arms around my neck. “I’m pregnant.”

“Oh my God.” My heart pounds and for a second the world tilts. I can’t stop the grin spreading across my face. “I’m going to be a father?"

“Yes.”

My chest tightens but in the best way, like I’m holding on to something I never want to let go of.

“And I’m having twins,” Harper adds with a sheepish grin.

My mouth drops and I start laughing because, of course, nothing about this angel of a woman has ever been ordinary. She laughs, too.

“I think we’re in for the adventure of our lives.”

“Me too.”

“Come here.” I reach for her, pulling her closer until she’s flush against my chest.

It always felt like my life didn’t really begin until I rescued her from that county jail in Massachusetts.

The two of us went on one wild ride where we needed each other to keep going on the journey.

We’re still on that journey.

It’s the kind that never ends.

It only keeps getting better and better.
