Chapter 21

twenty-one

leo

Late in the night, I awoke to Raine trailing fingers down my arms, down my hip, my thigh. I sighed and rolled over onto my back, bringing her with me. Her head rested on my chest, rising and falling with my deep breaths. Her fingers roamed between my pecs, making trails in the thick mat of my chest hair, and then down my hairy stomach to my stiffening cock.

“We don’t have to…” I kissed the top of her hair, inhaling her sweet scent. “Go back to sleep, baby. It’s the middle of the night.”

I couldn’t remember what time I arrived. Raine answered the door a blubbering mess. I didn’t know what triggered her, but I assumed something bad happened at her meeting with the theater department. I’d find out from Beau if there was an issue after the department reviewed the video surveillance footage.

Maggie was going to be home tonight, so I’d get Raine through this rough patch, and we’d figure it all out together. Everything would be rainbows and unicorns again by the time Maggie arrived. She didn’t need to come home to find I’d messed things up.

Raine’s fingers wrapped around my dick, yanking all rational thought from my grasp. “Will you make love to me?” came her small voice.

She had never used that terminology before, and when I heard the L word, it tugged at my heart. But she didn’t wait for an answer. She rolled onto her back and tried her damnedest to pull me on top of her.

Of course, she couldn’t move me, being approximately half my size. But I found myself straddling her, guiding my cock into the tight embrace of her pussy and her wrapping her legs around me. When I heard the front door open and flinched, she said, “It’s just Bonnie coming home. Don’t stop. Please don’t stop.”

We moved slowly, my hips grinding my cock in and out of her with deep but leisurely strokes. Her fingers trailed up and down my back with soft caresses as she sighed with pleasure.

“Do I feel good?” she wanted to know as her hips rocked in time with mine.

“Yes, baby, so good…so tight.”

“Are you gonna come inside me?”

“If you want me to.” Thinking about filling her was bringing me to the edge, but I wanted her to come first. “Come around my cock, Raine. Let me feel you squeeze me, milk my cum from me.”

“Okay…” She sighed softly as she buried her face in my chest and tightened her hold around me. Her legs hooked around mine as she took my cock deeper and faster.

“That’s it, baby…give me that orgasm,” I urged her on, nibbling on her earlobe and then down her neck until she cried out in ecstasy.

Her pussy fluttered around me as tears spilled out of her eyes. I couldn’t stop. I was already falling over the cliff when she began to shatter around me.

It took a long moment for me to catch my breath and be able to come to her aid. She sobbed against me, squeezing me tightly as she drew in shuddering, gasping breaths.

“Raine, what’s wrong? Did I hurt you?”

“No…no, you’ve been absolutely amazing to me. You and Maggie both,” she managed between sobs. “I just don’t know if I can do what you’re asking me to do. I?—”

I pulled out of her, leaving a trail of sticky cum on her thigh. “I’ll be right back, baby. Hold on.” I went to the bathroom to get a warm washcloth and ran right smack dab into…

My wife?

I had been waiting patiently for Leo and Raine to finish fucking. When Bonnie let me in, she said she wasn’t sure when he got here but, as far as she knew, they’d been asleep for a while. But when I crept to the door, I heard him moan. I’d know that sound anywhere. So I went back to the living room to stew.

The longer I sat there, the more uncomfortable I got. Not because he was fucking her. Hell, they were trying to make a baby. And I wanted them to. I drew up and signed a contract. And I’d been bugging them for two days about getting in as much sex as possible.

So why was I upset? Uncomfortable? Because I thought she was going to be at my house, not him at hers? That was ridiculous. What difference did it make whose bed they were in? Did it make it more my baby if it was conceived in my bed?

No, of course not.

But before I could psychoanalyze myself any further, the bedroom door creaked open, and I sprang into action. I didn’t mean to march down the hall with such determination, but it happened anyway. And I certainly didn’t expect to collide with a huge solid wall of a man. I practically bounced off him.

“Maggie?” he gasped.

My eyes had adjusted to the dark—I’d told Bonnie to go ahead and turn off the lights before she went to bed—so I could just make out the contours of his face and body in the pitch-black hallway. He was naked. That, I expected.

“I thought you were getting back tomorrow?” He wrapped his arms around me and drew me into his chest. He smelled like sex and Raine.

“It is tomorrow,” I choked out, my arms still stiff at my sides. I didn’t want to hug him right now. I didn’t know why, but I didn’t.

I was suddenly irrationally angry.

Angry that I was standing here in the dark surprising my husband who had just fucked another woman.

Angry that I didn’t know if I should be jealous of him or of her.

Angry at my body because I couldn’t conceive and carry my own baby.

It just hit me all at once, and I was sure my utter exhaustion from traveling and running scenario after scenario through my head about what might be going on for hours on end didn’t help.

“You didn’t answer your phone,” was all I said.

“You told me to come check on Raine,” he whispered. “So I did. She was upset.”

The door creaked again, and I looked up to find Raine standing in the doorway with a towel wrapped around her. “Raine, are you okay?” I asked, but she ignored me. She went straight into the bathroom and shut the door.

Before I could say anything else, the lock engaged, and the shower began to run. I turned back to my husband. “What the fuck is going on?”

He grabbed my hand and guided me to the living room. After fumbling around for a minute or two, he found one of the light switches. The entire space was flooded with brightness, burning my eyes and inflicting me with an immediate headache.

“Raine wasn’t answering my texts or calls,” he said, “so you told me to come over here. You gave me her address.” He sounded defensive for some reason.

“I know that much.” I sounded just as snarky.

“I came over and knocked on her door, but she didn’t answer at first. Then I pounded and yelled that I needed to know she was okay. She finally came and opened it, then collapsed in my arms in tears. She never told me what was wrong. I carried her to bed and just held her while she cried. Then we must have fallen asleep.”

“Well, you must have woken up at some point,” I argued, “because you were clearly fucking when I got here.”

“We thought that was Bonnie getting home,” I admitted. “I’m sorry. I left my phone right here.” He reached over to the end table next to the sofa and picked it up, scanning his missed calls and texts, probably all from me.

“So…you just fucked her without bothering to find out why she was crying?” I didn’t mean to sound so accusatory, but…well, was that what he’d done?

“She woke me up and asked me to,” he defended himself. “So I did. I was half asleep, so I’m sorry if I wasn’t thinking extra clearly. I’ve basically been used as a stud service the past two days, and I’m just doing the fucking best I can to get you a baby.”

“Get me a baby?” I shot to my feet. “That’s what you’re doing?”

He said nothing, just stared at me, his nostrils flaring.

There was silence for a moment until our heads both turned toward a tiny squeak in the hallway. Raine.

She stood, shivering, in a towel, her skin ghostly white. My heart ached for her. I turned toward my husband. “Fine. You’re done. We don’t need your services any longer. Just get the fuck out of here.”

I rushed toward Raine and pulled her into my arms, trying to soothe her as Leo stood, assessing the situation. The scowl on his face disappeared, and he simply picked up his phone and keys and headed out the door, letting it quietly click shut behind him.

“Where’s he going?” Raine asked, those three words filled with nothing but pain and longing.

I was jetlagged, exhausted, angry and hurt, but I knew Raine needed to be taken care of. First, I took her to her room, guiding her to the bed to sit while I rifled through her drawers for some comfy clothes. Then, while she got dressed, I went to her bathroom and got her brush. I sat on the bed, combing the tangles from her wet hair while she stared stoically at the wall.

“Oh, Raine…sweetheart, I hate seeing you like this. I’m sure you’re exhausted, but will you tell me what’s going on? You know Leo and I care about you, and we want to make sure you’re okay. You’re clearly not right now. I want to understand what happened so I can help you if I can.”

She still said nothing, just reached for her phone, which was on one of the nightstands next to her bed. She pressed an icon, scrolled, pressed again and handed it to me.

I skimmed the text, emotions slamming into me as I tried to figure out who it was from. I looked up at her with questioning eyes.

She mouthed, “My mother,” before bursting into tears once again.

I held her to me, rocking her back and forth, and I tried—and failed—to soothe her.

After what felt like hours, she pulled back and looked at me out of red-rimmed eyes, her cheeks streaked with tears. “I can’t do this anymore. I’m sorry. You both deserve better than me.”

“Oh, Raine,” I pressed her to me again, but she immediately pulled back.

“Please go,” she said. “Please. I don’t want to talk anymore.”

My heart welling with the wounds of defeat, I stood up from the bed and quietly made my exit, same as my husband had done mere moments ago.
