CHAPTER 16
RIO
My contact has been quiet the last few days, but after learning Kaden’s truth, I need to figure out what he knows. Booting up my phone, I tap out a message.
The wrong brother is in jail.
I have to wait a few minutes before I get a reply.
Bingo.
Why is someone out to kill him then?
This time, I have to wait almost thirty minutes for a reply. I’m shocked someone wants an innocent man dead. Having to wait for answers is frustrating and a little unnerving. We’re not friends, and for all I know he’s got someone else after Kaden.
The other brother isn’t as golden as he makes out.
How does he know what opinion Kaden has formed of his brother? Hell, I don’t even know his name. Other than Kaden looking enough like him to be mistaken for the wrong person I know zilch about him.
Why does Kaden think he’s golden?
If Kaden took the fall, the brother must’ve given him a reason. Guilt is the only thing I can think that fits what my contact is saying.
He hides who he is better than Kaden.
Do you know the other guy?
He’s the one that ordered the hit.
I stare at the screen. Holy crap! I wonder what Kaden will think when he finds out. If he finds out. It would be easy to tell him the truth, and maybe he deserves it, but if I tell him, I risk losing him. He doesn’t belong in this hell hole, but I might just be selfish enough to keep him here.
Thanks for the info. I’ll be in touch.
My message feels a little chatty for us, but I need to round it up to let him know everything’s cool. After deleting all the messages, I place my phone back in the mattress.
It’s the earlier hours of the morning, and most of the prisoners will still be sleeping, Kaden included. Rising from my bed, I watch him for a few minutes. He looks so peaceful, but I’m ready to cause havoc.
Reaching my hand under the cover, I find his morning wood. This is going to be easier than I thought. I push under the waistband and firmly grab his dick. He doesn’t stir at first, so I give it a stroke. His hips thrust up into my hand making me smile.
“Morning,” I say.
He moans, and I’m unsure if it’s in pleasure or greeting. Maybe it’s both. I loosen my grip but keep a steady rhythm. He puts his arms over his head but doesn’t open his eyes. He allows me complete control. Fuck, this man is delicious.
I work him into a frenzy, allowing him to buck up off the bed into my hand but never letting him go. He’s mine whether he likes it or not.
I stroke him harder. Faster, until he can’t take anymore. He moans and cums all over my hand, and I can’t help being fascinated. Removing my hand, I lick it clean. His eyes follow each of my tongue movements and it’s his turn to look entranced.
“That was a nice wake-up call,” he says.
“Happy to help,” I say with a playful smile.
“I could get used to a hand job at the start of my days.”
“Only a hand job.” I raise an eyebrow daring him to tell me what else he’d like me to do to him.
He swallows hard. “Fuck. You’re killing me.”
“Tell me what else you’d like.” I’m not giving up on hearing what I want just yet.
“From you? Anything you’re offering.” That was the easy answer and not good enough.
“Be specific. I want to hear your dirty words.”
He closes his eyes for a second. “I’d like you to blow my brains out.”
I scratch my jaw. “I’m sure that could be arranged.”
He rolls his eyes. “I meant suck me until I can’t think of anything but cumming down your pretty throat.”
My smile feels wicked. Fuck yes, that was what I wanted to hear. “Aw, you think I’m pretty.”
“When we first met, I thought you looked like one of those naked babies with the curls. A devil dressed in a Michelangelo painting.”
I can’t help but laugh. “You got the devil part right at least.”
“You’re a walking sin. No man should be as good-looking as you.” His honesty takes me by surprise. I know he’s trying to be playful, but his compliment warms me in places it shouldn’t.
I’m on a high for the next few days. Kaden and I have been fooling around, Felix hasn’t been lurking in the shadows, and I seem to have faded into the background where I like it. Life is good as far as being locked in a prison goes.
Whistling, I make my way to the bathroom. I shower, still humming a tune. Inmates move around me as usual, but I’m not paying as much attention as I usually do. Dare I say, I’m feeling happy. Lighter in the soul if that’s possible.
I spend my day reading the newspaper and watching Kaden run laps through a lead-lined window in the kitchen.
Max enters the kitchen, heading for the barrel of potatoes. He picks up the peeler, flipping it over his fingers. Wearily, I try not to tense, but I’m fully aware of his presence. He busies himself with chores and I go back to watching Kaden.
“He’s fast,” Max says, gesturing out the window to our boy.
“Yeah, he’s full of energy.”
He chuckles. “I thought you’d been tiring him out.”
I’m not used to him being friendly. It doesn’t feel authentic for us to be talking like this. “What do you know about Kaden and me?” I ask curiously.
“I see the way he looks at you. It’s obvious you’re making more than friendship bracelets.” He smirks letting me know he’s okay with Kaden and I being whatever we are.
“Is he the reason you’re talking to me right now?” While we’re blurring the lines between indifference and friendship I might as well play along.
“Of course.” He gives a wolfish smile.
“And what do you want?” I narrow my eyes waiting to see if he’ll tell the truth or feed me some bullshit.
“You.” My scowl deepens, and he shakes his head. “Not like that. Ernie and I want you in our crew.”
“I’ve already told you. I’m not interested.” I wave my hand, dismissing his request.
He walks over to the window so he can see Kaden. “The governor was very interested in your whereabouts when Jono was killed.”
Lucky for me I don’t have to worry about that. I didn’t poison him and I’m guessing only the killer and the officers know how he died. “What are you getting at?”
He holds his hands up. “Nothing.” That’s far from the truth. I grab the front of his T-shirt, and he holds the potato peeler up. “I wouldn’t do that if I was you.”
Showing no fear, I hold my head up high. “You don’t know me. Jono should be the reason you don’t underestimate me and also the excuse to leave me alone.” I might not have taken his life but he doesn’t know that. It’s better for him to see what I’m capable of so he might leave me alone.
“You have this all wrong. We’ve seen what you can do and have noticed your hidden skills. It’s the reason we don’t want to leave you alone.” He has this all wrong, but I’m not going to correct him. All it will do is convince him to look at me even closer.
