Chapter Thirteen

MADISON

T he car ride to the bar is filled with laughs as Cara rants about feeling naked without her weapons. Veronica and Crystal said they would pass on this girls’ night but would come to the next one. That left me, Sara, Bianca, Sophia, Cara, and Will. When he showed up to the house with his black fishnet top and tight black leather pants, my mouth dropped open.

Everyone laughed as he turned around and asked the girls to do an ass check. Bianca claimed to be envious of his ass. That seemed to satisfy him as he preened from the praise.

Pulling up to the bar, we hop out the SUV and head inside. Kevin is in the front leading the group while Luis flanks the back. When we enter, all eyes turn toward us and I stop.

Will leans down to whisper in my ear. “The club owns this bar. Any time you walk through that door with a Sinful Warrior patch on, people stare. The women wish to be where you are, and the men wish they had you. Don’t show fear because they will try to chew you up and spit you out.”

I raise my head with confidence and keep striding. “Attagirl.” He giggles. Kevin leads us to a booth in the corner and we file in.

“We’ll be out of sight, but we’ll be watching,” Luis informs us as he and Kevin disappear into the crowd.

Not even a minute later, a young waitress walks over to the table. “What can I get ya tonight?”

“Are you a drinker, Madison?” Bianca asks with a gleam in her eyes.

“Just the occasional glass of wine here and there. Why?”

“How do you feel about shots?”

The girls groan and stare up to the ceiling. “Don’t be a Debbie Downer. This is Madison’s first girls’ night. We’re supposed to be showing her the time of her life,” Bianca scolds them.

The girls sit up and nod in agreement. “You’re right. I’m pretty sure we’re going to regret this in the morning but we’re here to turn up not down. We’re in,” Sara says as the group turns to me.

“I could do some shots,” I tell them. I’ve never done a shot before but how bad could it be? I’ve seen people toss those things back like water.

Bianca turns to the waitress. “Shots of tequila all around and follow that up with a round of Sex on the Beach.” The waitress nods before walking off to the bar.

“What’s a Sex on the Beach?” I ask.

“Exactly what it sounds like. When you’re done drinking them, you’ll want to do exactly that.”

I snort before saying, “As if I could get Jonah to sleep with me.”

My eyes bulge at my slip. I did not mean to say that out loud. The girls stare at me curiously. I don’t see an ounce of judgment, so I start to relax. I’ve been holding on to these frustrations for so long that it just came out. I felt like I was about to combust when Jonah left earlier. I didn’t know what to do with myself.

“You’re going to have to explain what you mean, Madison,” Cara says to me, and the rest of the table leans in to wait for my answer.

“It’s just every time things get hot and heavy, he pumps the breaks. He won’t go past a bit of making out and it so damn frustrating.”

The girls smile in understanding before Sara speaks up. “He’s probably not sure what you’re ready for. Sometimes you have to be the aggressor and tell them exactly what you want.”

“I can’t do that. What if he denies me? I would be mortified.”

Will snorts before shaking his head. “Believe me, that is the last thing he is going to do. The other night when he left Cara’s house, I was standing on my porch and saw him walking to the clubhouse.”

We all look at Will in confusion. “So?” Sofia prompts.

“That man was hard as a rock. I’m a man and I know the walk you have when you have a chubby in your jeans.”

We all burst into giggles and Will looks as if he could feel Jonah’s pain. The waitress walks over and puts the shots down on the table. “Do y’all want something to eat too?”

“Nope, the drinks will do,” Bianca tells her. We had takeout from the diner before leaving. She nods before walking away and Bianca grabs her shot as we all do the same. Everyone raises their glasses as Cara starts a toast.

“To Madison. Our newest sister in this circle.”

Everyone clinks glasses and throws back their shots. I watch as Bianca and Cara throw theirs back without a problem. Will, Sofia, and Sara wince but still get them down. Everyone turns to me, and I throw mine back with a quick swallow.

Big mistake.

The pain is immediate.

My throat is on fire as I cough uncontrollably. Sofia giggles and begins to pat my back.

“The first one’s always rough,” Bianca informs me.

“I highly doubt that. I’m pretty sure I just swallowed gasoline.”

The girls break into a fit of giggles just as the waitress drops off the next round of drinks. I grab it and take a hesitant sip. When the fruity concoction hits my tongue, I begin to drink faster to cool my burning throat.

“Slow down, Madison. You’re going to be stumbling if you don’t pace yourself.”

I turn to Will and frown in annoyance. My throat is on fire, and this helps. I don't want any logical advice. I just want throat to not be on fire.

After the pain begins to go away, I take a few more sips before setting the drink down. “Come on, ladies, let’s dance!” Will shouts before standing.

We hit the dance floor and dance for what feels like hours. Will takes turns dancing with each of us. He is a ball of energy. I’ve never seen a man move his hips like Will.

While we’re on the dance floor, someone comes up behind me and pulls my body against theirs. I tried to break his hold, but it tightens.

“Don’t be like that, baby. You’re the only one who doesn’t belong to one of those damn Warriors. Let me show you how many times I can make you come.”

Eww. Does that crap actually work on women? I’m fighting against his hold but I’m getting nowhere. Cara and Sara look up to see me struggling and they both charge forward and pull me out of the guy’s hold.

“Back up, asshat. She’s not interested or available,” Cara sneers.

“You don’t have to get bitchy with me. Her cut doesn’t say she’s an Ol’ Lady so she’s fair game.”

“She’s only fair game if she’s interested and I don’t think she is.” Cara turns to me in question. I shake my head furiously. She turns back to grabby hands with a smug smile. “See? Not interested. Now do us a favor and turn around and leave before I do something I really want to,” she threatens.

The guy steps forward with a pointed finger, “Now listen here, bitch. Don’t think?—”

His words are cut off as Kevin and Luis flank both sides of him. His entire face pales as if Lucifer himself is standing behind him.

“You were saying?” Cara asks sweetly.

Will, the girls, and I laugh at how quickly he switches up. He turns around to leave but Cara isn’t having it. She grabs his arm spinning him back around to face her.

“I believe it was Listen here, bitch . Well? I’m listening.”

“You called Viper’s Ol’ Lady a bitch. Must have a death wish,” Luis growls.

“One I am more than willing to grant,” Cara volunteers, stepping forward with a devious smile. Grabby hands visibly swallows. He looks terrified.

“Not tonight, Cara. We promised to keep you out of trouble.” Kevin grabs the guy by the collar and escorts him out of the bar.

“Always ruining my fun.” Cara pouts with her arms folded.

We return to the booth and take more shots than I can count. I’ve never been drunk before. I’m doing things I would never do sober.

Like dancing on top of a table with Will.

The girls cheer us on as I sway my hips to the beat. The bar fills with hoots and hollers encouraging me. I am having the time of my life.

I feel free. For the first time ever, Thomas isn’t lingering over my head—just my new life filled with crazy friends who support me and encourage me to every crazy thing that comes to mind. By the time one o’clock hits, we’re a hot mess.

We had taken an insane amount of shots. I’m pretty sure we went through two bottles of tequila.

Getting to the SUV is a struggle. Luis has me wrap my arm around his shoulders. I look like a baby learning to walk. Everyone else was just staggering. I couldn’t understand how their legs were still working.

Mine feel like noodles! God, I’m such a lightweight.

Once Kevin pulls out of the parking lot, Cara fills the silence in the truck. “I’m trying to do the zombie position tonight,” she slurs.

“Zombie position? What the hell is that?” Bianca asks.

“To be laid out and eaten,” she crows.

We burst out laughing as she tries to wiggle her eyebrows but only scrunches up her forehead.

“Geez, Cara. We don’t need to hear that,” Luis complains.

“Ask us how much we care, Luis. You’re the one who tagged along for girls’ night.” Sara giggles.

“We were ordered. There’s a difference. Take it out on your Ol’ Men, please.”

“Sorry. No can do. Blade does this thing with his tongue and?—”

Bianca words are cut off as Kevin turns up the radio. We all laugh harder as he speeds up trying to get us home in record time. When we’re less than a few minutes from the club, Luis makes a call to Viper telling him to come get us because we’re trashed.

“Fuck you, Luis. I’m a sophisticated drunk!” Cara declares.

We all nod as Sophia slaps the back of Luis’ head and says, “Damn straight.”

When the SUV stops outside the clubhouse, all the guys are waiting out front. Luis hops out in a hurry followed by Kevin. Does that mean they didn’t enjoy girls’ night?

My door opens and there’s my one. My mouth has a mind of its own right now, so I am not at fault for what comes out next.

“You’re so pretty.” I sigh.

For some reason that statement makes the girls laugh uncontrollably. I look from them to Thor to see him roll his eyes. “See, I told you, best bud. The men would line up for that ass in jail,” Cara cackles.

Wait, what? I hear all the guys laughing and now I feel the need to defend my man. Nobody laughs at him.

“They would not. He’s manly pretty. Fuckin’ gorgeous and sexy as hell!”

Everyone stops laughing and stares at me with stunned expressions. I gaze up at Jonah worried I might have overstepped but he’s staring down with a huge smile. “Manly pretty, huh?” He chuckles.

I nod my head and state a little too loudly, “Yup. I wanna lick you up and down like a popsicle as if I was stuck in the middle of a desert.”

Jonah swallows before closing his eyes. When he opens them, they’re filled with so much heat. We stare at each other, lost in our gaze before Sofia voice breaks the spell.

“Armor, babe, let’s go do that. Now.”

Armor doesn’t say a word. He swoops her up and disappears into the clubhouse. Everyone else follows suit and goes inside. Will takes a few steps and stumbles. Before he hits the ground, Tech rushes forward and slings Will’s arm around his shoulders. I am very drunk right now, but I know I’m not hallucinating when Will’s cheeks turn redder than a tomato. He and Tech share a look I really don’t know the meaning of.

Once we’re inside, all the couples head for their rooms while Tech takes Will out the back door to help him home. When Jonah moves for the back door, I stop him.

“Can I stay with you tonight?”

“Maddy, you’re drunk. I don’t think that’s smart.”

“I know you won’t do anything with me like this, but I just want to spend the night in your arms. Please?”

He nods before giving me a quick peck. He carries me back to his room and lays me on the bed. Opening the dresser, he pulls out a shirt and pair of boxers. He hands them over before walking back out the door. I quickly change into them and shout for him to come back in. Jonah goes into the bathroom and comes back, wearing only a pair of sweatpants. My eyes eat up his ripped abdomen. So much has changed over the years. Jonah was always fit but now he’s like a beefy appetizer that I want to try over and over.

The tattoo on his chest is a nice touch too. He didn’t have any the last time I saw him. After he gets into the bed, he pulls me against him and plants a kiss to my forehead. I rest my head on his chest and wrap my arm around his waist. Nothing has ever felt righter than this.

“Night, Maddy.”

“Night, Jonah.”
