Chapter Fourteen
THOR
H aving Maddy in my arms was long overdue. It didn’t take her long to fall asleep. Me, on the other hand, stayed up enjoying her strawberry scent. It reminded me of all the times I spent the night at her apartment. While she would sleep, I would stay awake holding her. I don’t know what I did to deserve a second chance with her but I’m not giving her up.
Looking at the clock on my nightstand, I see I don’t have much longer before it’s time for Church. I ease my way out of bed. I don’t want to wake Madison up. The girls were hammered last night. I know she will be feeling like hell when she wakes up. Grabbing my phone off the charger, I send a text to Bear.
Me: Can I get something of Sara’s for Madison? She doesn’t have any clothes here in the clubhouse.
Bear: Sure. Come to my room and get them.
I throw on a shirt and make my way to his room. When I get there, the door swings open, and he hands me a shirt and jeans. He also includes a bottle of women’s bodywash and deodorant. “Thanks, brother,” I tell him as I take the items out of his hands. Bear nods and goes back inside his room. When I return to my room, Madison is stirring awake.
I walk over and take a seat next to her as her eyes flutter open. When the sunlight hits her eyes, she shuts them and winces. “Not feeling so good, huh?” I chuckle.
Maddy groans and lays her arm across her eyes. “That’s a real understatement. How can a night filled with so much fun end with so much misery?” she whines.
I laugh and Maddy winces, then narrows her eyes at me. I throw my hands up in apology and drop a kiss to her forehead. When she sighs, as if everything is right in the world, my heart warms. It’s always been her for me. Nobody will ever compare or come close.
“Come on, Maddy. I got some clothes from Sara. Some coffee will set you right.”
She nods and grabs the clothes. Once she’s inside the shower, I grab my clothes and head for one of the guest bathrooms. By the time I’m dressed and walking back to my room, Maddy’s opening the door as I round the corner.
“Oh, there you are. I didn’t know if I should wait for you.”
“You didn’t have to but I’m glad you did.” I hold my hand out and she grabs it. I lead her to the dining hall. The first thing I notice is the girls look miserable. They all had on oversized hoodies, sunglasses, and their hair is piled on top of their heads in messy buns.
Except for Bianca.
I don’t understand how that woman never gets a hangover. What really baffles me is how everyone continues to drink with her, knowing the outcome. I walk over to the table and Maddy takes the seat next to Sara. When I came back with both our plates, I noticed Mouse coming over with a tray of coffees.
The girls praise her with thanks as they begin doctoring their hangovers. Maddy takes a few bites of eggs before she stares at Bianca with an expression of puzzlement. Bianca is giggling with Blade, showing no signs of a hangover.
“Bianca, how are you so… so normal this morning?” Maddy whispers in confusion.
Everyone at the table breaks out in laughter as Bianca gives a beaming smile. Just as she’s about to open her mouth, Cara interrupts her. “Because Bianca is a mutant that shouldn’t be compared to us mere humans.”
Bianca’s mouth drops open as we all howl in laughter. “Cara!” she admonishes.
“No. I don’t want to hear it. Look at the four of us, Bianca. We look like we crawled out of Satan’s ass this morning. Meanwhile, you’re brighter than a ray of fuckin’ sunshine!” she hisses.
The guys cover their mouths in an attempt to smother their laughs. None of the girls seem happy with her. Bianca folds her arms as she pouts. “We didn’t even drink that much,” she defends.
“To whose standards?” Sara raises a brow in challenge.
“You were the one who said two bottles of tequila between the six of us would even out. Well, guess what? It didn’t,” Sophia adds.
“Holy shit! You all drank two bottles of tequila?” Torch asks bewildered.
“And a couple of rounds of Sex on the Beach,” Bianca states proudly.
“That’s exactly why Veronica and I passed on this girls’ night.” Crystal laughs before going back to eating.
“Bianca, I love you to death, sis, and you know it. But we’re never drinking together again.” Bianca looks at Cara with sad eyes and receives a middle finger. Laughing, we all finish eating while enjoying each other’s company. Once breakfast is over, Viper announces Church. Madison gives me a quick kiss before leaving with Bianca and Sophia.
After we’re all seated, Viper brings the gavel down gently to begin Church. Cara and Sara mutter their thanks as a few chuckle with amusement. Kevin and Luis are here as well. I don’t know why they’re here. Prospects aren’t allowed in Church.
“Last night Kevin and Luis told me they had some things to report about the girls’ night,” Viper informs us.
My hackles go up. I sit up in my seat staring them down. Kevin clears his throat before turning to me. “Last night a guy at the bar got handsy with Madison. He didn’t hurt her, but he did get in her space. As we started making our way to the dance floor, Sara and Cara pulled her away before things could escalate.”
“Why the fuck weren’t you two right next to them?!” I bark.
“They were close enough, Thor. They were by our sides within thirty seconds,” Sara defends.
I don’t give a fuck. Maddy has been through enough. She doesn’t need some strange man getting grabby with her. I knew I should have followed them.
“That’s not all,” Luis speaks up. “On the way home, we believe we were followed. We weren’t sure because they kept a good distance and kept going when we took the exit for the clubhouse.”
This shit just keeps getting worse. My mind whirls with possibilities of what could have happened to her. Everyone is watching me with concern. I probably look ready to kill Kevin and Luis.
“We were definitely followed last night,” Cara speaks up. She still has her shades on while nursing her cup of coffee. Her demeanor is too calm for me right now. When she doesn’t say anything else, my resolve shatters.
“And you didn’t think to say something last night?” I snap.
Viper sits up in his chair and sends me a heated glare. “Watch your tone with my Ol’ Lady, Thor. Kevin and Luis, if that’s all you two have, you can leave.” They both make a quick exit.
“You know why I didn’t say anything?” she asks me. I shake my head no. There isn’t an excuse good enough for why she kept me in the dark about all this. “Did you see the pictures I sent you last night?”
Cara sent me several photos of Madison last night. In every picture, Madison was laughing and smiling, having the time of her life. She was worry free. It was the first time since she’s been here that I didn’t see a cloud of darkness in her eyes. For the first time in a long time, she could just be Madison for the night. Now it clicks why Cara didn’t say anything.
“She was finally happy. For one night. I wasn’t going to ruin that. We knew there was a possibility that Thomas would find her here.”
“Cara, how in the hell did you notice someone following y’all last night? You were beyond tipsy,” Blade interjects.
“What did Nana always teach us growing up? To be aware is to be alive. I don’t care what state I’m in, I’m always vigilant.”
“Well, did you get a license plate number or something?” Viper asks, sitting forward.
“There were no plates. All I can tell you is it was a black Chevy Escalade. If you guys see one of those around town with blackout windows, an L-shaped scratch on the hood and a dent the size of basketball on the driver side door, that’s them.”
We all stare at Cara in silence, trying to figure out how in the hell someone so inebriated could notice all that.
Capone scratches his head, appearing deep in thought. “But how in the hell did he find her? She hasn’t even been here that long.”
“Exactly. She doesn’t use credit cards and she hasn’t even had her first day at the hospital. Something isn’t adding up,” Sara agrees.
“We need to do something, Viper. Every time my woman leaves those gates, she’s at risk.”
“Cara, Sara, Tech, do y’all have anything on him at all?” Viper asks them.
“No. But we did come up with a plan.” Sara turns to Cara. She pulls what looks like a flash drive out of her pocket.
“You see this little baby? Insert this in someone’s desktop and in sixty seconds, it sweeps the entire system.”
“Sweeps the system? Like download all the information on it?” Dice asks.
“Exactly.”
“How the hell do you plan on getting that thing in his desktop because you sure as hell won’t be doing it yourself,” Viper tells her. I don’t blame him. It’s enough that the girls are involved in club business. They don’t need to unnecessarily be in danger.
“I know, Viper. Sara and I are going to send false virus alerts to his home and office computer. The second he sees an alert, saying someone is attempting to hack his system, he’s going to call tech support.”
“Cara and I are going to intercept his technicians and replace them with two of you guys.”
The guys look at the girls in amazement. They never cease to amaze us. All the brothers nod their approval. “How many guys would need to go?” Viper asks.
“Six should be good. Only two will show up to his home and office. The other four will be there for backup.”
“All in favor of this plan?”
Every hand raises around the table and the plan is set in motion. Since Tech has the most experience with this kind of stuff, he volunteers to go. Diablo, Gunner, Dice, Rambo, and Chains follow suit. We agree to give it a week before heading out. With Thomas possibly having eyes on us, it wouldn’t be smart to leave right away.
Once Church has ended, I head to the bar for a beer. One of the club bunnies who goes by Diamond comes and plops herself into my lap. “Thor, baby, it’s been so long. Nobody fucks me like you do. Let’s say you and I get out of here and I’ll let you use the ropes on me.”
I hear a small intake of breath and my stomach sinks. Pushing Diamond off me, I turn to see Madison there with tear-filled eyes. The girls are beside her, and they all look murderous. I don’t know if it’s aimed at me or Diamond. I make a move to go to her, but she runs out the door. Cara stops me from following.
“Let us talk to her, Thor. She’s not used to club life and anything you say to her, she probably won’t believe.”
“I can’t lose her, Cara,” I choke out.
“I can’t promise you anything other than I will try my hardest to help her understand how much she means to you. I got to go.” Cara rushes out the door behind the other girls hot on Madison’s heels.
I turn around and get right in Diamond’s face. “Don’t touch me again. I’m not available for you or any of the other bunnies.” I walk back over to the bar and ignore the stares from my brothers. I don’t know what the girls are going to say to Madison, but I hope it doesn’t end with her leaving me.
