It felt like only a few minutes had passed when the instrumentals faded away and a scattered applause filled the tavern. Uriah thanked the crowd before his mic was cut.
“Wow,” Pruitt exclaimed. “I have to say I did not expect that.”
“He didn’t strike me as a singer either,” said . “I guess things are not always what they seem in Mystic Hollow.”
“Oh, ,” replied Pruitt. “Truer words have never been spoken.”
“So, what is it that’s up your sleeve then, Pruitt Mondamin?”
’s question seemed to surprise Pruitt. “Who, me?”
“Well, I can’t imagine that you’re about to take the stage next and woo us all, but I have a feeling we all have our own little secrets,” elaborated.

“It’s just silly how big of a deal it is to some people. How much it actually consumes my time. And to think I’m doing it all to please—who? My coach? Teammates? My girlfriend?” Pruitt was quick to correct himself. “Well, uh, thankfully, ex-girlfriend .”
“Oh?” raised a brow.
“Ah, long story. Just more of the same toxic bullshit in my life.”
“Ah, well… You’re not going to like me when I tell you I just voted for you two for homecoming court then,” added to lighten the mood.
“What is this I’m hearing about Pruitt getting back with his lady friend?” The two looked over to see Uriah, who slid into the booth on the other side of . “That doesn’t make for a fun evening, but then again who would expect such a thing when they’re hanging with the strait-laced Pruitt Mondamin?”
“Man, just when I was about to give you a compliment, too,” Pruitt replied dryly.
