“Here, this is for you.” Something white and lacy is tossed at me and I make a grab it before it collides with my head.
I hold it up in front of me and my nose scrunches in disgust. “Are you fucking kidding me?”
The guy stood by the door grins. “Only the best on your wedding day, slut ,” he adds before bolting the door shut behind him.
I study the wedding dress in my hands, if you even can call it that. It’s short and puffy with a built-in corset. “Where the hell did they get this thing from?”
“It belongs to Christina, Tobias’ wife.”
“Christina? As in Myles’ ex and his son’s mother?”
She’s his wife? What’s wrong with him ? What’s wrong with her ?
“How very tasteful,” I deadpan, dropping the dress onto the bed before rising to my feet, searching the room for a weapon or a way out of here. “We have to get out of here.”
There’s a chair in the corner and I drag it across the floor, positioning it under the window. I climb up onto it, ignoring the creak of the wood under my weight as I peer out the window. All I can see outside are trees and nothing else. No sign of a nearby road or a way to signal for help.
I tug on the handle but it doesn’t budge an inch. “Come on,” I grit out, pulling harder in the hopes the force will dislodge it and it will slide open.
Voices from down the hall grow louder and I jump off the chair, placing it back where it was and dart back over to the bed just as the door opens.
Tobias grins as he enters, spying the dress that lies crumpled next to me.
“Do you like your dress?”
“You mean your wife’s hand-me-down that could easily qualify as the tackiest wedding dress to ever exist? I love it .”
“I never expected you to be so ungrateful, Allison. I’m disappointed.”
“Aww, I’ll try and do better, Uncle .” My voice is laced with sarcasm.
“You know, I think it’s about time you met your betrothed.”
“Go fuck yourself,” I spit.
He storms across the room and takes my face in his hand, jerking me towards him roughly so my face hovers millimetres from his. “If I wasn’t already married—uncle or not—I’d marry you myself just to fuck that attitude out of that pretty mouth of yours.”
“Why doesn’t that surprise me? I always knew you were sick, but incest? You need professional help, or a lobotomy.” This guy is certifiably psychotic.
He chuckles, his eyes dipping to my feet before slowly tracking up my body until he settles on my eyes. There’s a flicker of arousal there and it turns my stomach. “Your husband has got his hands full, for sure. Let’s introduce you, shall we?”
“I’d rather not.”
“Too fucking bad.” He drags me from the room, and I just managed to sneak a glance at my mom over my shoulder before the door steals her from my view. He tugs me down the corridor, his fingers biting into the soft flesh of my arms and tosses me forward into another room.
My heart slams to a halt when I see the man waiting for me.
No.
Fuck no.
“Hello, wife .” The menacing grin on Vaughn’s face sends an ice cold shiver of dread down my spine.
I spin to face Tobias. “What the hell is this?”
“This is soon-to-be husband.”
“The only thing he’s soon-to-be is six feet under. No fucking way am I marrying him .”
He tuts with a shake of his head. “See, you’re still under the impression that you have any say in this. You and Vaughn will be married.”
“What happened to him trying to kill me?” I remind him.
“Everyone deserves a second chance, and I think being married to you is punishment enough, don’t you think? Gives him an opportunity to prove his worth once and for all and gives you an opportunity to fall in line. I’ll leave you two to get acquainted.” Tobias backs out of the room and shuts the door, leaving me and Vaughn alone.
“Well, what an interesting turn of events.”
“These events won’t be lasting for long if I have anything to do with it. I’d sooner die than let you anywhere near me.”
“That can be arranged.” He slams me up against the wall, exactly as he did that night in The Snake Pit. He’s learned from his mistake last time as he keeps my feet spread with his so I can’t kick out. He has my wrists bound in one of his hands behind my back, my shoulder screaming out from the uncomfortable angle.
He leans in close, trailing his nose down my cheek, inhaling me, his lips at my ear. “But then why would I want you dead when I can have so much more fun with you still alive?”
“Fuck off.” I spit at his face, watching with pride as my saliva coat his features.
He chuckles, an excited glint in his eye and it seems it had the opposite effect to what I hoped, the pride that swelled in my chest only moments ago is now replaced with fear, but I refuse to let it show on my face.
He has me restrained, unable to fight off his body that is easily twice the size of me.
“You like it like that, do you?” He leans his weight onto me, pinning me further against the wall. He’s so close that I can feel the hard bulge of his dick against my stomach. “I can’t wait to get a piece of you, pixie …”
I have to fight back the nausea that curdles in my stomach at his use of that nickname. A nickname I came to love, but not by him.
His free hand begins to roam over my body, squeezing my breast hard enough to make me whimper. “…find out what all the fuss is about…” His hand dips lower, cupping my pussy roughly through my jeans. “…find out what it is about you that has Myles so whipped.”
I struggle against him. “Get your fucking hands off me.”
His thumb trails over my lips before pushing into my mouth far enough to make me gag. “You’ve got such a dirty mouth on you. I can’t wait to shut you up when I shove my dick down your throat so far you choke on it.”
The thought alone makes me nauseous. “Try it and I’ll bite it off, asshole.”
He smirks. “I’m gonna have so much fun breaking you, bitch.”
“I’m not that delicate. Do your worst, Venom . Not sure what kind of women you’re used to abusing, but I can assure you, I’ll give as good as I get.”
“I look forward to it. I love a woman who fights back.”
“You better learn to sleep with one eye open, you might just find a pillow over your face one of these nights.”
There’s a knock on the door. “Venom, you’re wanted,” the voice on the other side says.
His eyes bore into mine and before I can do anything about it, his mouth takes mine roughly, his tongue breaching my lips and I retch from the intrusion.
With his tongue so deep in my mouth, I bite down. His hands fall away from me as he rears back with a roar, reaching for his tongue, his fingers coming back stained in blood.
I gag against the metallic taste of his blood in my mouth and I spit it out onto the floor.
“You fucking cunt!” His fist swings for me, colliding with the side of my face before I have the chance to duck out of the way and I’m knocked to the floor, pain radiating through my cheekbone, my head pounding.
“Let that be a lesson should your rancid dick come anywhere near me,” I croak out, hissing from the sting of the cut on the inside of my cheek, my mouth slowly filling with blood.
He throws the discarded dress at me. “Put your fucking dress on. Sooner we’re married, sooner I can get you out of it and fuck you ‘til you bleed, bitch.”
His boots eat up the floor as he tugs open the door, letting it slam closed so loud I flinch.
Prick .
The room falls silent and I drag myself up to my feet, my face falling into my hands as I collapse onto the bed, my heart hammering against my ribs.
What am I going to do?
I have no plan, not a single idea of how to get myself out of this. I can’t take on all of them by myself. I like to think I’m good, but I’m not that good. Not to take on a whole biker gang on my own. The way I see it, there are two possible outcomes from this. Marry Vaughn now, allowing me time to kill him before he kills me, or refuse this marriage and try to run and end up dead. It’s an impossible decision, both with outcomes I’d rather not have to face.
There’s a tapping noise on the window behind me and relief washes over me when I see Myles on the other side of the glass along with Drew.
I scramble off the bed and rush across the room, climbing up onto the dresser under the window before prising open the stiff window.
“Oh my God,” I sigh, relief washing over me like a wave.
I could cry happy tears to see him here, but by coming here, he’s walked right into Tobias’ trap, playing right into his hands.
“You shouldn’t be here, this is what Tobias wants.”
“I’m wherever you are, baby.” He smiles, reaching forward to caress my face. He turns back to Drew. “You know the plan?”
“Yeah. I won’t let you down, I swear.” Drew’s eyes meet mine. “ Either of you.”
My heart warms.
“You better not,” Myles warns.
I smile. “Thank you, Drew. Truly .”
I can’t believe this man was a stranger to me just hours ago, a man I hated just from the patch he wears on his jacket. Now he’s my brother. A brother who’s helping me escape.
He nods once before dashing around the side of the building.
Myles hoists himself through the window and I help him inside. As soon as he’s on his feet he tugs me into his arms, wrapping me up in the safety of his warm body and I melt into it, never wanting to leave.
“How did you know which room I was in?”
“Checked them all until I saw you.” He pulls back, delicately touching the bruise that is no doubt swelling on my cheek and his jaw clenches. “What happened?”
“Vaughn. He’s who they’re planning to have me marry.”
“It won’t come to that, I promise.”
“I’m so sorry. I should never have come here. This is all my fault,” I say.
“No, it’s not. This has been a long time coming between him and me. I’m just sorry you got caught up in the middle.”
I glance nervously to the door. “Myles, you need to hide. They’ll be coming for me any minute. If they find you here…”
“Don’t worry about me, pixie. I have a plan, but I need you to go along with this okay?”
I recoil. “You want me to marry Vaughn?”
“Absolutely— fucking —not.” He cups my cheek, guiding my eyes up to his. “The only man you’ll be marrying one day is me . But I need you to play your part for now.” He reaches behind him and pulls out a small compact pistol and places it in my palm. “Keep this on you, you may need it. When the ceremony starts, get ready, okay?”
I nod, clutching the gun tightly in my hand.
He takes my face in both of his hands and presses his lips to mine, savouring the kiss like it’s his last. After a long minute, he pulls back, resting his forehead against mine. “I love you, pixie. I think I loved you the first time I laid eyes on you and everyday I find myself falling harder than the day before. You’re my love, my life, my ride or die. I just needed you to know that in case—”
In case one of us dies.
I press a finger to his lips to silence him. “Don’t say it, don’t even think it.”
A tear escapes me, trickling down my cheek.
He loves me.
“I love you too. So much. I tried my hardest to fight what I was feeling for you because it scared me, but deep down I knew. I always knew.”
He kisses me again, deeper this time. I wrap my arms around his neck, clinging to him and I kiss him back with just as much earnest before breaking away.
“Remember, when the ceremony starts,” he says.
“Okay.”
He gives me a reassuring smile before we set about finding somewhere for him to hide. We settle on the closet, concealing him behind the various clothes and boxes that are in there. It should do for the short time he’ll be in there.
I quickly strip and tug on the god-awful excuse for a wedding dress and once I’m done, I look at myself in the mirror and curse under my breath. I’m half tempted to tear it off and walk down the aisle in my underwear, I’m sure I’d keep more of my dignity in tact if I did.
It’s hideous.
A tight form-fitting bodice with a puffed out skirt which barely meets my knees.
I tug the belt from my jeans out of the loops and wrap it around my upper thigh before tucking the gun into the belt high enough to conceal it beneath the short skirt of the dress.
The door cracks open and Tobias steps inside, his eyes eating me up, sucking his lower lip in between his teeth, clearly enjoying what he’s seeing.
I shiver.
He grins when his eyes finally settle on mine. “It’s Showtime.”
“If you think for one second I’m going to go along with this quietly, you’ve got another thing coming.”
“Good thing I love a good fight.”
