For hours, I had tried to imagine what it would be like to see Noah again. A thousand sentences I could say to him played in my mind.
But in none of these scenarios was I lying drenched to the skin on the ground. In none of them did I touch his cheek with muddy fingers, and never had I imagined raindrops running down his face like torrents.
Words fail me. Not only because he is here but also because I see something in his expression.
Something I have never seen before. Lightness.
I look at him questioningly.
He nods. At first, just slightly, then more intensely.
"You did it," I murmur, and suddenly, nothing else matters more than the two of us.
Not that we're exposed to the wild forces of nature in the middle of nowhere. Not that my ankle hurts and my head feels dull.
I push my hands into the ground to lift myself, but Noah holds me back.
His face is nothing but love as he gently slides his arms beneath me. His gaze remains fixed on me.
Mist rises all around us. The rain pours relentlessly on both of us, accompanied by an intense rumble of thunder that vibrates in my chest .
Inside me are so many words I want to say to him. I look deep into his eyes. "I'm so incredibly sorry, Noah. I was..."
He stops me by placing his index finger on my lips. From there, his hand moves to the back of my neck as he comes closer and closer.
I hold my breath. My eyelids grow heavy. The pattering sound of the rain suddenly sounds like music.
I can feel the magic between us even though we haven't touched yet. He is so close, his breath brushing against my lips.
Now he kisses me with a tenderness that completely envelops me.
I surrender and give in to my longing. There is nothing but love for this man inside me, who means more to me than anything else in the world.
Our lips touch gently. It's as if they are sealing a promise that neither of us needs to speak aloud. It's as if we are no longer two incomplete halves but a perfect whole.
The rumble of thunder gradually subsides as we kiss, as if we never want to let go of each other again.
Minutes later, Noah releases me. I reluctantly open my eyes.
The world around us has suddenly transformed.
Individual sunbeams break through the clouds, casting golden rays down to the ground.
Everything shines. A rainbow forms on the horizon, spanning the entire expanse of our sky. Even though the rain continues to pour down on us incessantly, loudly striking the rocks beside us, I can see all the magnificent colors of our future .
Noah smiles at me blissfully. Then he lifts me as if carrying me over a threshold. His lips form words that I can't hear. But I don't need to. Because I can clearly see what he's saying to me.
"And I love you," I reply with a blissful smile, and deep within me, I feel that this is the beginning of a new life.
